FirstSpear Tactical Dress Belt

Friday, May 31st, 2013

The patent pending Tactical Dress Belt was designed by a Law Enforcement and Personal Security Professional and is manufactured exclusively by FirstSpear.

TDB

It’s important to understand that while it’s called a Belt it’s a two piece design that consists of a sleeve that goes over your regular belt along with a low profile inner belt. The inner belt is threaded through the loops on your trousers and the two components Velcro together.

TDB - Inner

The TDB is designed to accept your standard trouser belt which you thread through the sleeve. It might be a nice leather dress belt or an expensive leather gun belt, or perhaps FirstSpear’s Line One Belt made from Biothane. Regardless, you slide your trouser belt inside the TDB and it turns it into a full tactical load bearing belt.

_MG_0304

Due to the design it won’t betray you when your jacket opens exposing the front of your belt. But, your sidearm and other equipment is right where you need it.

Additionally, the wide, padded TDB will help support your load during a long day whether just a pistol and magazine pouch or something more substantial.

Available in Black only, one size fits most.

Noveske Pack

20130522-220256.jpg

Manufactured by FirstSpear for Noveske Rifle Works, the Noveske Backpack is a concealed carry design. Above and just below you can see the Grey/Dark Brown/Rust model.

20130522-223559.jpg

The Noveske Pack accommodates a completely assembled and loaded rifle 28″ or shorter. The backpack will also hold rifles with barrels up to 16″ if the upper and lower are separated. Additionally, it features padded shoulder straps as well as daisy chain and a beaver tail pocket to carry bulky items externally. One detail I really like is the low key, laser etched Noveske logo at the center of the bag. Some might be a little put off by the Rust accents along the back of the bag but they are against your back, and trust me, no one will ever say that this bag screams, “Gun!”

The pack is also offered in Black / Earth, seen below.

Either color also comes with a Pig patch.

Das Ding from FirstSpear

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

A lot of SSD readers have seen the FirstSpear Das Ding and come away scratching their head. I saw it and immediately thought ‘SERE’ but it’s really designed for anytime that you need a nontraditional load carrying solution. Das Ding is German for ‘The Thing’ and that’s a pretty apt description. It’s a thing that adapts to the mission and kind of reminds me of a money belt on steroids.

20130513-185421.jpg

Made from Tweave, Das Ding incorporates 11 sewn pockets that allow you to configure your load any way you like. Once you’ve got it loaded, you slightly stretch Das Ding when you put it on. Then you overlay the Velcro panels to close it around you.

20130513-185713.jpg

There’s plenty of contact with a 4.5″ x 6″ hook panel that connects to an even larger loop panel for adjustability. Additionally, you can close it in front or rear based on where you want to carry your load. You may want a smooth front or perhaps you want to be able to reach inside your jacket to access something.

20130513-185835.jpg

One thing to note. Das Ding is really adaptable. We set it up several ways and in these photos you see a pistol. It’s not intended for use as a holster, but you can carry one if you need to.

20130513-191108.jpg

It will take virtually any of the items you would carry as first line gear: survival gear, radio, magazines, first-aid items, even a side arm. It will also accept more specialized kit such as GPS, camera, smart phone, etc.

20130513-184544.jpg

Das Ding holds your gear close to your body. Once I put on this cardigan, you couldn’t see the equipment carried by Das Ding.

20130513-190617.jpg

A Squadron Smock or other large coat literally swallows it.

20130513-190304.jpg

In addition to the inherent compression offered by the Tweave, Das Ding’s pockets incorporate grip enhancement panels as well as optional security stretch cords with pulltabs in order to help secure the load.

Designed to be worn alone or in conjunction with the Assault Gunners Belt and can also be incorporated with armor, worn as a single strap.

Das Ding is offered in sizes Small – XLarge in Black, Ranger Green, Coyote and MultiCam.

FirstSpear – Tactical Patrolling Harness

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

The FirstSpear Tactical Patrolling Harness features FirstSpear technology as well as a Tubes front opening.

FS Tactical patrolling harness 6-12 with tube entry

The design is reminiscent of other MOLLE-style patrolling harnesses with integrated belts, a design that is an extraction of Israeli Ephod-style harnesses that were later adapted to a maritime role in the late 80s here in the US. Overtime they have transitioned from fixed pouches, to ALICE compatibility and finally to PALS. This harness is the next step. It’s made from entirely new materials and not only accepts FirstSpear’s 6/12 family of pouches but also their 6/9 as well as any MOLLE compatible pouch meaning it is a great way to upgrade your harness without having to purchase an entirely new suite of pouches. Additionally, the front opening relies on the Tubes buckle which is easily manipulated with one hand.

The Tactical Patrolling Harness incorporates padded shoulder straps, a drag handle and metal adjustment buckles at the rear. Available in Small/Medium and Large/Extra Large in Black, Coyote, MultiCam and Ranger Green.

So What’s This 6/9 Technology We Keep Talking About?

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

Willis

Recently, I mentioned FirstSpear’s new 6/9 Modular Pocket Technology. Several friends immediately wrote to me thinking I had published a typo. Assuredly, FirstSpear has their 6/12 technology but what’s this 6/9 think we keep talking about?

6_12back

Really, it’s pretty simple. FirstSpear developed this really cool, proprietary pouch attachment system called 6/12. Thing is, not everybody is ready for change. So, they went back to the drawing board and came up with the 6/9 Modular Pocket Technology, a completely backwards compatible PALS-style attachment system which holds the pouch closer to the platform than traditional MOLLE and also features weight savings (no snap or plastic stiffener). In fact, it holds pouches so much closer that the initial M4 mag shingles couldn’t be worn directly below an admin pouch on the front of a vest. Traditional PALS makes them stick out far enough that you can generally draw a magazine without hitting the pouch above. Not so with the new 6/9 equipped pouches. They fit so closely to the platform that there’s no standoff. Look below and you’ll see how 6/9 is a bit of a hybrid. They’ve used laser cut backers on the pouch combined with a woven strap that is similar to PALS.

6_9 Backer

Great idea, but, what to name it? 6/12 was named to signify that you are fully ready for action. The witty guys at FirstSpear thought about it and decided that if 6/12 is all the way there, then the 6/9 system will get you about half way, acknowledging it’s an improvement, and a pretty popular one at that. In fact, so much so, that after this Summer, FirstSpear will no longer offer PALS attachments on any of their pouches except via minimum quantity special order. So don’t fear 6/9 but rather embrace it if you must continue to rely on traditional MOLLE systems.
