Thursday, April 20th, 2017

Magpul has released their Hula Girl T-shirt in Men’s and Women’s styles.

A few years ago while outfitting the dashboard of our Volkswagen Bus, we decided to do what we do best. We took something awesome and made It better, which is how the Magpul Hula Girl was born. These shirts are inspired by Magpul’s take on the classic Hula Girl dash ornament. She’s packin’ heat and ridin’ dirty.

Magpul Developed a 60-Round Quad Magazine

Thursday, April 6th, 2017

Quad Mag Prototype, 60-Round Capacity 2009

Shortly after the introduction of the original PMAG, Magpul began working on increased capacity solutions. The “Quad” or “Coffin” mag concept never delivered the reliability in rough handling and adverse conditions that they require from their magazine products, and so the design never made it into production. Lessons learned during this program eventually fed into the D-60 program.

USSOCOM Selects M-Lok For Weapon Programs

While we’ve heard rumors of a USSOCOM directed study by NSWC-Crane of weapon accessory attachment systems, we only recently came into possession of evidence of that study, conducted in 2016. We present to you the summary of the report, as it offers the most pertinent facts. However, we are not offering up the rest of the report, as it contains proprietary information regarding the Magpul M-Lok attachment as well as other, competing systems.

IMG_0652

The summary states:

SUMMARY

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) conducted testing for the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) to evaluate modular rail systems and provide a recommendation based on the performance characteristics of each system. Modular rail systems were evaluated for repeatability, endurance, rough handling, drop testing, and static failure load. Where possible, handguards manufactured in different modular rail systems, but otherwise identical, were used as a basis for a comparative analysis. All tested modular rail systems showed to be adequate for securing accessories during cyclic loading through endurance and rough handling testing. However, distinct performance differences were observed from repeatability, drop test, and failure load analysis. Overall, test and evaluation demonstrated that the M-LOKTM modular rail system surpassed the performance results achieved by other modular rail systems. In repeatability testing, M-LOKTM allowed for the repeated installation of the same accessory rail in the same location on a handguard with an average point of aim (POA) shift of 1.3 MOA, as low as one quarter the average POA shift observed by other modular rail systems. Drop test results demonstrated that M-LOKTM systems maintain securement of accessories to the handguard and sustain less damage from impact forces than some other modular rail systems. Failure load testing demonstrated that M-LOKTM systems support the highest load of all modular rail systems tested. In fact, the test equipment used to interface with 1913 accessory rails secured with the respective modular rail system across testing repeatedly failed prior to failure of the M-LOKTM attachment system. Even so, testing of the M-LOKTM systems failed at loads as high as over three times the maximum failure load of some other modular rail systems. NSWC Crane recommended to USSOCOM that the M-LOKTM modular rail system be utilized over the alternative systems tested. USSOCOM has chosen to incorporate the M-LOKTM modular rail system in acquisition efforts including the Suppressed Upper Receiver Group (SURG) and Advanced Sniper Rifle (ASR).

Of additional note, the US Army directed H&K to integrate an M-LOK rail (designed by Geissele) on the new Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System rifle which is an indication of wider Dod adoption of M-Lok.

Magpul Announces Retirement of Richard Fitzpatrick

Wednesday, February 15th, 2017

AUSTIN TEXAS, February 14, 2017 – Magpul Industries Corp today announced the retirement of Magpul Founder and CEO Richard Fitzpatrick. Richard made the decision to retire in September 2016 with an effective date of March 2, 2017, his 50th birthday. While Richard will be retiring from day-to-day operations at the company, he will remain involved as a major shareholder and member of the Magpul Board of Directors.

Twenty-four years ago, as an enlisted Marine, Richard sketched the attached drawing for the “Quick Pull” for M16 rifle magazines. It was five years later when this idea was refined into the original “Magpul” and, in 1999, Richard started a company named after the original product. Working from his basement, Richard was its sole employee while working 3 jobs to provide startup capital for the endeavor. Today, Magpul stands as one of the largest producers of firearm magazines and accessories in the world, with over 200 products. While the company has grown, its core values continue to drive every aspect of the company.

Richard made the decision to retire in 2016 based on his belief that Magpul has a cultural foundation and a robust and talented team that can carry forward his vision for the company. In his communication to Magpul employees, Richard stated, “I want to thank everyone who has joined me in building something I could never have imagined 24 years ago when I made the first drawing of the original Magpul concept. Magpul has been the center of my life for so long, that I cannot clearly remember being without it, so this decision was extremely hard for me to make. As Magpul stays true to its published foundations, we will continue to attract talent, build great things and most importantly stay relevant to people’s lives.”

In preparation for Richard’s new role, Magpul has spent the past six months adjusting management functions for a seamless transition. Doug Smith will serve as President and COO and continue directing day-to-day operations and business functions, as he has since 2004. Duane Liptak, a former United States Marine Corps Officer with an Aviation and Marine Special Operations background, who joined Magpul in 2012, has been promoted to Executive Vice President and will assume further responsibility over Richard’s role in product vision and marketing. Mike Mayberry, who joined Magpul in 2004, will continue as Vice President of Product Development providing the same innovative design quality for function and aesthetics that Magpul has been known for. Brad Bennett, who joined Magpul in 2007, has been promoted to Vice President of Engineering and will continue to expand the Design and Engineering group, and Carey Ryerson, who joined Magpul in 2012, has been promoted to Vice President of Manufacturing Operations.

Magpul was established on Richard’s ingenuity and grew under Richard’s unyielding leadership and vision. Today the company is stronger than ever and will continue to grow and expand under the founding core values that drives every aspect of the company. Richard will continue to serve a critical role for Magpul, but today, we celebrate the dedication, hard work, and vision of our Founder as he enters a new phase of his professional life.

GAOS – Magpul X-22 Backpacker Stock

Monday, February 13th, 2017

One of the things I really enjoy about the Great American Outdoor Show is that I actually get to look at stuff, unlike SHOT Show which is a five day sprint through everything new in the tactical industry. Even though I previously mentioned Magpul’s X-22 stock for takedown 10/22s, I wanted to bring it up again. This thing is just cool. I’m ready to go buy a takedown 10/22 just because of this stock.

Features:
Drop-in design compatible with all factory Ruger 10/22 Takedown & Tactical Solutions SBX barrel
Unique locking interface to attach the barrel assembly to the receiver when being transported
Reinforced polymer construction for strength and durability
Ergonomic hand guard
Comes with interchangeable standard and “optic height” cheek risers
Optional QD sling mounting capability
Integrated storage compartment in the grip
Hinged storage compartment in the stock capable of storing up to 3 spare 10rd magazines
MOE SL nonslip rubber butt pad

They are supposed to be out this Spring but for me, they can’t come soon enough. Now, if Magpul would just make a decent 10/22 magazine.
