Ruger – PC Charger

Friday, March 20th, 2020

A couple of years back, Ruger released the PC (Pistol Caliber) Carbine, an evolution of a concept initially realized with the discontinued Ruger Police Carbine. Featuring a takedown receiver, ~16″ barrel, and 9x19mm chambering, The PC Carbine was designed to allow shooters to utilize a common caliber and magazines between their sidearm and long gun, lowering a shooter’s logistical burden while providing an improvement in controllability, accuracy, and effective range as required. Lending to the functionality of the PC Carbine is its interchangeable magwells, since it comes out of the box compatible with Ruger’s Security 9 magazines, but can be quickly converted using an included magwell to feed from ubiquitous Glock pattern 9mm magazines instead; a Ruger American compatible magwell was also made available for purchase.

The warm reception and popularity of the PC Carbine led Ruger to expand the product line with various models, including some with a modular, more ‘tactical/modern’ chassis, and others chambered for .40 S&W. However, earlier this week Ruger revealed the most unique addition to the PC line yet, with the introduction of the PC Charger. Like Ruger’s .22 Charger to the 10/22, the PC Charger is a pistol variant of the PC Carbine that utilizes the same receiver – you can think of it as a PDW to the PC Carbine’s, well, carbine:

– 16.5″ overall length vs the PCC’s 34.37″
– 6.5″ barrel length vs the PCC’s 16.12″
– 5 lbs vs the PCC’s 7 lbs

Simply put, it’s a lighter, more compact weapon compared to the PCC while retaining parts commonality and many of the same features, such as the 12 o’clock Picatinny optics rail, reversible charging handle and magazine catch, threaded barrel, and exchangeable magazine well.

What’s unique to the PC Charger, at least compared to the standard PC Carbine, is the features of its polymer chassis. It includes rearward QD cups for installing QD-compatible slings, the ability to install any AR-compatible pistol grips, and the integrated rear 7075-T6 Picatinny rail, for attaching a rail-mounted brace or stock mount. Rounding out the PC Charger is an M-LOK compatible forend which allows for the attachment of M-LOK accessories or rails at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions.

SHOT Show 2018 – TBA Suppressors – Sicario Ruger MK IV

Saturday, January 27th, 2018

IMG_0370

TBA Suppressors was displaying their wares at a booth in the 3rd floor NEXT Pavilion, and although it was the name of this product that caught our attention more than anything, after seeing what TBA had to offer we came out pretty impressed. The Sicario is a .22LR suppressor designed specifically to interface with a modified Ruger MK IV to function as an integrally-suppressed pistol.

Despite being integral, the Sicario consists of a quick-detach two-piece system. The standard spec barrel on the Ruger is replaced with a ported barrel with a 1/2×28 thread pitch for mounting the monocore and sleeve.

The end cap of the Sicario is broached for an allen wrench, although TBA designed it so you can disassemble it using the Ruger magazine, if need be.

TBA also offers a ported adapter that threads onto any other 1/2×28 threaded .22LR barrel, which interfaces with the core and sleeve exactly like the replacement Ruger barrel. This allows the suppressor itself to be mounted to virtually any compatible .22LR firearm. In the gallery above, you can see the adapter, then mounted onto a S&W M&P .22 Compact, and finally with the Sicario suppressor mounted to the pistol.

SHOT Show 2018 – Ruger PC Carbine

Wednesday, January 24th, 2018

IMG_0446

The Ruger PC carbine is a takedown carbine chambered for 9x19mm. It features a cold hammer-forged, chrome-moly steel barrel with a heavy contour, and external fluting for weight reduction. The barrel is also threaded with a 1/2″x28 thread pitch for the attachment of standard muzzle accessories and suppressors. The PC Carbine comes with a ghost ring rear and front blade iron sight, and a top integrated picatinny rail on the aluminum receiver allows for the attachment of and electronic sight or scope. Additionally, the PC Carbine can be set up for both left and right hand shooting, with a reversible magazine release and charging handle. It’s also worth noting that some, not all, trigger components on the PC are interchangeable with the Ruger 10/22, so there’s already some aftermarket support for this rifle.

The Ruger PC Carbine comes equipped in the box with a magwell for the SR9/Security-9 magazine, although a magwell for Glock magazines is also included, and is quick to install. Ruger has also released a magwell for the American Pistol magazine, that is currently available.

Ruger Introduces An Integrally Suppressed Barrel for the 10/22 Takedown

Friday, April 28th, 2017

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE-RGR) proudly introduces the Silent-SR® ISB for the 10/22 Takedown® platform. The ISB, or Integrally Suppressed Barrel, is an exciting addition to the Ruger® Silent-SR family that delivers quiet and accurate performance in a compact and truly user-serviceable package.

Known for its unrelenting reliability, durability and accuracy, the 10/22 Takedown rifle is the ideal platform for an integral suppressor. The Silent-SR ISB quickly and easily assembles to any Ruger 10/22 Takedown or 22 Charger™ Takedown, and features an induction-hardened breech with cold hammer-forged barrel that provide easy takedown and accurate return-to-zero – the same elements that have made the 10/22 Takedown an instant classic worthy of its heritage.

Reducing sound pressure levels of .22 LR to an average of 113.2 dB with standard velocity ammunition, a 10/22 Takedown rifle equipped with the Silent-SR ISB is as quiet as a bolt-action rifle with a thread-on silencer. Its compact, 16.12″ barrel length makes the Silent-SR ISB easy to handle, and the relatively long barrel of the Silent-SR ISB (compared to other integral suppressors) means the bullet generates energy near that of a 16″ gun for consistent, accurate and effective performance on target. The pushed-cone baffle geometry has been stretched to utilize the volume under the barrel maximizing suppression of the gunshot without disturbing the travel of the bullet.

Disassembly for cleaning is as simple as separating the barrel from your firearm and loosening the Silent-SR ISB’s single assembly screw using the included 5/32″ hex key tool. Once loose, pull the screw to remove all six 17-4 stainless steel baffles, spacer and front cap free of the sleeve for cleaning. The sealed baffles keep the fouling away from the serialized sleeve, yet easily come apart even after thousands of rounds. Finished with Cerakote, the Silent-SR ISB is engineered and built for a lifetime of hard use without clogged ports, seized components or loss of suppression that often plague other integrally suppressed rimfire barrels.

Suppressed firearms help to preserve our hearing, make verbal communication on the range easier and make shooting more fun. Paired with the Ruger 10/22 Takedown, the Silent-SR ISB makes the perfect training, plinking and small-game hunting platform.
