Tyr Tactical Sneaks into New 5.11 Video

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

5.11 Tactical produced an excellent video featuring Kyle Lamb using a full array of their clothing and equipment. However, Kyle’s plate carrier somehow went uncredited. Once we took a look at it we realized it was a Tyr Tactical LWPC. We will say that 5.11 makes a great line of tactical products and their new MultiCam lineup is very well designed. We particularly like their Rapid Assault Shirt. But, they are missing a plate carrier. We wonder if this isn’t an indication of things to come?

5.11 products are available from a wide variety of military and police outfitters. For info on their latest products visit www.511tactical.com. For more info on Tyr Tactical visit www.tyrtactical.com.

TYR HALO Navigation Board with Chest Harness

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

HALO nav boards are pretty specialized pieces of kit and they aren’t something you run across very often. In fact, we can think of only a few companies making them. Unlike some other designs the TYR model is semi-rigid to prevent injuries in the event of a hard landing and does not need to be mounted to a parachute harness. It can be positioned on the front of the jumper in four different configurations and is adjustable for jumpers from 5’0″ through 6’10”. One of the cool features is that the jumper can configure the compass and GPS modules for easy commercial replacement of items and equipment upgrades.

TYR Assaulters Sustainment Pack

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

TYR Tactical just released their new low profile Assaulters Sustainment Pack which can be worn with its integral shoulder straps or attached directly to the back of an armor vest. Take a good look at the photo below. You can see that the “comfort panel” consisting of the shoulder straps and padding can be removed and this is how it attaches to the armor.

It’s a pretty streamlined design with a 360 cubic inch main compartment and additional 680 cubic inches in the expandable, mesh beavertail. The ASP is manufactured from the patent pending PV material in 500D. Overall it is pretty versatile with three hydration ports in addition to the requisite internal hydration reservoir pocket as well as an internal storage zipper pocket.

Tyr Tactical Unveils a Deluge of New Products

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Like a flood gate opening Tyr Tactical released images of not less than 20 new products on their Facebook page yesterday. And these weren’t a bunch of little pouches. For example, they’ve included a 5-Day Lightweight Assault BackPack in the release. Although, I have to admit I am a bit skeptical on this one. That is a lot to ask of a frameless pack. I’m looking forward to seeing one to take a look at how they are reducing weight and handling that type of load.

As far as innovation goes, my vote is in for the Assaulter Sustainment Pack. Apparently, you can remove the padding in order to attach it directly to a vest. It also has a generous beavertail that will make it easy to access kit.

I’m not sure how they are doing it, or keeping up. They’ve already sprinkled some of the the new products throughout the website in their respective categories so you will have to head over and root around a little to get an idea of what I am talking about.

It is made from their PV material which helps mitigate weight. Additionally, you can get the PICO with two different face variations including slick or admin meaning you can choose one of six variants by choosing plate and face style. Finally, the PICO is available with a whole mess of accessories. Check it all out at SHOT Show booth #8008.

Finally, Training SAPI Plates

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Many are reluctant to conduct training while wearing their issue armor plates for fear of fracturing them. It is also impossible to determine if they are damaged without sophisticated x-ray imaging. Additionally, armor plates are expensive and not easily replaced if they are damaged, especially in a deployed environment. There have been few, if any solutions to this dilemma, until now. Tyr Tactical put up a new product on their website earlier this week. The Ballistic Training Plate features a SAPI cut and while designed specifically for training, is rated to defeat 5.56.

The Ballistic Training Plate is the same size and weight of issue SAPI plates so training will be as realistic as possible. Tyr has colored the plates in bright orange so that there is no doubt that they are intended for training. They are offered in size Small through X-Large. Due to the nature of these plates, purchase is restricted to military, law enforcement, government agencies and firms that support them.
