Blackhawk Ergonomic Duty Belt Harness

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Designed to answer a Department of Justice requirement for a load carrying solution to help alleviate the large numbers of lumbar injuries suffered by law enforcement officer, Blackhawk developed the Ergonomic Duty Belt Harness. Designed to transfer the duty belt’s burden from the hips to the shoulder, it is also compatible with body armor. The idea is to share the load balancing it more between the hips and shoulders. In order to take full advantage of the harness, the duty shirt will need to be slightly modified with small buttonholes on the sides to accommodate the straps. The ergonomic duty belt harness is available in two sizes; small/medium and large/x-large.

US PALM Defender

Friday, June 11th, 2010

US PALM started out with a vision of an affordable plate carrier for use by the man defending his castle. Nothing too fancy, with simplicity key to the design. It also needed to carry everything on one package so in 5 seconds the user could transform himself from naked to fully equipped. What they came up with is simply remarkable. With five different designs, there is a solution for everyone. Even if the AR15, AK47, .308, or Pistol variants don’t fit your exact needs, a MOLLE version allows you to tailor a dedicated solution. Regardless of configuration, each Defender comes with a front panel equipped with Level III armor and is designed to accept a Large ESAPI plate. An optional armor equipped rear panel is also available.

Berry compliant and manufactured from 500D Cordura, the Defender series is available in Black, Khaki, Coyote, and MultiCam. www.US-PALM.com

Badger Ordnance SNAP

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

The new SNAP (Scope, Night vision Adapter, Pocket) interface system from Badger Ordnance is designed to address several problems frequently faced by Military and Law Enforcement sniper/observers. It allows the user to attach a AN/PVS-14 night vision monocular behind a M151 (Leupold Mk IV 12-40x60mm) Spotting Scope.

The SNAP attaches the AN/PVS-14 to the spotting scope using a simple collet design, allowing the user to quickly attach and remove the night vision monocular without the use of any tools, and can easily be manipulated by feel in complete darkness. In addition to weight savings, compact size, and widespread use of the AN/PVS-14, another benefit to the SNAP system is the ability to mount a night vision system behind a magnified optic rather than in front of it. This allows for a crisper image at higher magnification than with most forward mounted systems. The SNAP weighs just 2.2 oz, is constructed of aerospace-grade aluminum alloy, and is hard coat Mil Spec anodize finished. Fully compatible with the Laser Interference Filter (LIF), the SNAP can also be used with the AN/PVS-7.

Limited Edition Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Steyr Arms has announced an extremely limited (300) commemorative package run of the Jeff Cooper Scout Rifle. Legendary small-arms expert, author and founder of what would later become the Gunsite Training Center, Lt. Col. (USMC Ret) John Dean “Jeff” Cooper (1920-2006), worked with Steyr throughout the 1990s to refine the Scout Rifle concept. The resulting rifle in .308 is based on the Steyr SBS action and fed by a 5-round detachable box magazine. Weighing in at less than 7 pounds the Scout Rifle also includes a long-eye-relief, forward mounted 2.5X Leupold scope and a multipurpose Ching Sling. In addition to an integrated bipod, the stock also holds an additional 5-round magazine. This limted edition package also features both hard and soft cases as well as a hardbound copy of Cooper’s seminal work, “Art Of The Rifle”.

Canadian Army Prohibits Purchase of Commercial Kit

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

On Monday, LGEN A.B. LESLIE, Chief of the Land Staff for Canada, released a message entitled, “Prohibition on Acquisition of Soldier Personal Equipment, Clothing and Camp Stores.” The point of the message was to remind units that they cannot use Operations and Maintenance monies to procure Soldier Systems items. Specifically, guidance was issued that, “THE LF CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT REMAIN WORLD CLASS. AS SUCH LOCAL PURCHASE OF CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT WITH O AND M FUNDS BY LF UNITS IS PROHIBITED.” The list of equipment units CANNOT use O&M to purchase is pretty extensive and includes basically everything that is covered on SSD. What killjoys. From the message:

A. PERSONAL CLOTHING. OCULAR PROTECTION, HELMETS, HELMET SUSPENSION AND RETENTION SYSTEMS, HEADWEAR, FOOTWEAR, GLOVES, JACKETS, NEXT TO SKIN CLOTHING TO INCLUDE SHIRTS, PANTS, SOCKS AND UNDERGARMENTS

B. PERSONAL EQUIPMENT. LOAD CARRIAGE SYSTEMS, HYDRATION OR WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEMS, AMMUNITION OR WEAPON SLINGS / BANDOLIERS, KNIVES, MULTITOOLS, FLASHLIGHTS, HEADLAMPS, ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT FOR PERSONAL WEAPONS AND PISTOL HOLSTERS

C. CAMP STORES. TENTAGE, COTS, SLEEPING SYSTEMS, AIR MATRESSES OR SLEEPING PADS, GENERATORS / HEATERS OR THEIR ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT, STOVES, POWER DISTIRBUTION, LIGHTING KITS AND VCP KITS

Truthfully, our favorite quote from the entire message is, “THE LF CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT REMAIN WORLD CLASS.” Really, you can’t make this stuff up. Despite the assertion of world class kit, a previously released message from LGEN Leslie authorizes Canadian Soldiers to privately purchase and use equipment from the following sources:

A. ARKTIS
B. BLACKHAWK
C. EAGLE
D. FELLFAB
E. HIGHSPEED GEAR
F. PACIFIC SAFETY PRODUCTS
G. TACTICAL TAILOR
H. SORD
I. COTMS

It must be noted that products from the manufacturers on this list include makers of trials kit from the Modular Fighting Rig program which should finally see theater this August. So I guess that the current “world class” kit will be replaced by even more world class once they make a decision on MFR. Until then, if you are a Canadian Soldier, if you want equipment that outclasses world class, you are going to have to buy it yourself.
