Yesterday, we showed you a picture of the knee of USSOCOM’s Protective Combat Uniform level 9 combat uniform component manufactured by ReadyOne. You may have noticed these interesting holes on the corners of the double knee.
The holes are for a new two-part kneepad system developed by Patagonia for this uniform.
The two-piece design consists of a foam padding component that fits inside the double knee through a slot in the bottom that is secured with Velcro. The male portions of the snaps are aligned in the four holes located at the corners of the double knee and the outer, hard plastic shell is snapped into place, providing abrasion resistance and protection from sharp objects.
As you can see, they snap together and fit through those holes. These are only made for the PCU Level 9 and are not compatible with any other system.
As an added bonus here is a snapshot of the Block 2 PCU Level 3A we wrote about back in January. It uses a Polartec fleece-based insulation sandwiched between a level 4 face fabric and a soft nylon backer fabric. As you can see, it is quilted like the old field jacket liner and is very comfortable. Level 3 now offers 3 options. The classic fleece level 3 jacket, this model (3A) and the 3B which features a WL Gore fabric story.
For those of you that took a look at Ops-Core’s new 2012 catalog yesterday, you may have noticed an item called the SLAAP Plate. It is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing things I have seen in quite some time. Developed by Velocity Systems for use in conjunction with the Ops-Core FAST Ballistic Helmet, the Super Light Armor Applique Plate defeats 7.62 x 39mm FMJ with mild steel core penetrator. There’s no ether here about it stopping an unspecified .30 threat like some helmet programs out there. This piece of kit stops the most common threat you are going to face on the current battlefield. And, it is used in conjunction with a helmet that is seeing more and more widespread use; the Ops-Core FAST Ballistic Helmet.

Mounting is a snap as it is as easy as adjusting the position and slapping into place via Velcro. The SLAAP Plate is also NVG compatible and includes a cutout and edge recess to accommodate the VAS shroud.
SLAAP Plates come in two sizes: Large (1.0 lbs) and Small (.85 lbs). Look for SLAAP Plates for additional helmet geometries soon. Available sized and in Tan, Green, Black, MultiCam and Desert MARPAT, the SLAAP Plate can be ordered from both Ops-Core and Velocity Systems.
The Germans have named their Infanterist der Zukunft or IdZ-2 (Future Soldier System) made by Cassidian with the moniker Gladius.
The MRZR4 boasts 88 horsepower with a top speed of over 60 mph. Offering 14″ of suspension travel and 12″ of ground clearance, it is CV22 compatible. The cab frames fold in order to gain the needed clearance for the Osprey’s cabin.
The seats incorporate 4-point harnesses and are designed to accommodate an operator in full kit.
The cargo area is modular and will accept 2 seats, 2 longitudinal litters or simply cargo.
Look for more info soon.
