Smith Elite Releases PivLock V2 Tactical

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

We first showed you the PivLock V2 Tactical during SHOT Show. Now, they are available for purchase.

PivLock V2 Tactical

The frameless PivLock V2 Tactical features a 3-position adjustable nosepiece and innovative interchangeable lenses. Interestingly, the same interchangeable lens system also allows the lens to absorb energy in an impact. The TLT (Tapered Lens Technology) corrects distortion and incorporates anti-fog and scratch resistant coatings as well as offering 100% protection from UVA/UVB rays and full ANSI Z87.1 and US MIL-PRF-31013 coverage.

Available with Tan 499 or Black frames with Grey lens with optional Clear and Ignitor spares. I’m a big fan of the Ignitor lens as it offers high contrast on a bright day.

RAND CLP and VTAC Announce Partnership

Tuesday, June 25th, 2013

I just found out that Viking Tactics founder Kyle Lamb has endorsed RAND CLP. I’m told that he met them at SHOT Show 2013 and got a few bottles to try out. Turns out, he likes it. RAND told me that Kyle “liked the viscosity, the no smell aspect and the fact that the product cleaned so well and kept the firearm wet after thousands of rounds. Also, it’s manufactured in the US!”

Sergeant Major Kyle Lamb, retired US Army Special Operation soldier, and President of Viking Tactics/VTAC, has officially endorsed RAND CLPTM as the “most innovative and effective firearms CLP on the market.”

Sergeant Major Kyle E. Lamb (retired) spent 21 years in the United States Army, more than 15 of which were with a U.S. Army Special Mission Unit. He served in several combat theaters including Mogadishu, Somalia, Iraq and Bosnia. One of his last assignments before retiring was to torture test new equipment for the US Army Special Forces Operations, ensuring America’s best combat shooters had access to the most effective and innovative equipment.
RAND’s Vice President of Sales and Operations, Jon Miodonka, says “SGM Lamb is meticulous when looking for great products & technology and won’t associate his name with just anything.”

RAND CLPTM is manufactured and distributed by RAND Brands, a division of RAND Innovations, LLC of Westport, CT. Developed by Mark Simonetti, a former Army Ranger and police firearms instructor, and using Nanotechnology as its platform RAND Brands has brought science and functionality together to create the perfect combination of a cleaner, lubricant and protectant.

20130625-123319.jpg

RAND CLPTM burst onto the scene in February 2013 after officially launching at the SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show) in Las Vegas. After 6 years of research and development, RAND Brands unveiled RAND CLPTM as the best all-in-one solution for firearm maintenance and reliability.

Says SGM Lamb of RAND CLPTM, “As a Soldier and Firearms trainer, I constantly searched for a weapon CLP that was a step ahead, I never found it…that was until RAND CLPTM came along. RAND CLPTM is head and shoulders above any weapons CLP on the market. RAND CLPTM answers all of my gun care needs.” He continues to say “RAND CLPTM changes the way your slide and bolt feel. They will be smoother than you ever imagined.”

Miodonka: “Working with Kyle and VTAC over the last 6 months has been an honor. To have the Viking Tactics and VTAC logos on our bottle is a testament to the hard work and efforts that have gone into developing RAND CLPTM at RAND Brands over the last 6 years.”

Lamb: “There are hundreds of options when it comes to cleaning, lubing and protecting your weapon, but RAND CLPTM is the best option.”

Lightfighter Adopts New Look

Tuesday, June 25th, 2013

While the popular Lightfighter forum has received a facelift, that’s not all that has happened. Unfortunately, they were kind of forced into a change as the forum software they were using is no longer supported. So, after a bunch of research, they are upgrading to a another product by the same developer. There are a few advantages to this upgrade. For example, one new feature I like is that it is now much easier to offer a direct link to a particular post in a thread rather than just to the whole thread.

LightFighter

I know some folks don’t like change, especially when they have been using the same thing for many years, but there’s some great content over there. So if you’re one of the guys who is unhappy with the change, I’d say hang in there. The admins are working through the issues. If you haven’t checked it out, give it a try. Just make sure your first post is an intro.

BFG Releases Hive 2.0 in New Colorway

Tuesday, June 25th, 2013

This latest run of Hive discreet carry packs is made in Three Color Desert (with burnt orange accents). The pack is water resistant and constructed with a combination o CORDURA and Tweave fabric offering a unique look that doesn’t scream “gun!”

HIVE-2 3

The Hive was developed in conjunction with Chris Costa in order to satisfy the need for a convenient way to tote a larger handgun in the event you can’t concealed carry. When it was designed, the team also considered the use of a submachine gun. In fact, it will accommodate a folding stock UZI variants, MP7, MP5K, and B+T MP9 as well as other small SMGs.

HIVE-2

Another main concern was easy access and the Hive offers simple, one handed retrieval. BFG added a bonus making it Dapper compatible by lining it with loop fabric so that it can be configured in a wide variety of ways. Additionally, it is ambidextrous with the shoulder strap and accessory pocket, which fits most common handguns as well as other items, can be switched from left to right. Finally, the main compartment incorporates a stiffened frame that helps protect the contents from printing as well as damage and the dual zippers can be opened one at a time or in tandem.

HIVE-2 1

Remember, the Hive is manufactured in unique batches of 300 so if you want a specific color (or one from each run) you will need to get it while it is available and the price is low. Like all things Blue Force Gear, it’s made with pride in the USA.

The Proctor Sling from Way of the Gun

Tuesday, June 25th, 2013

The good folks at Weapon Outfitters made us aware of the Proctor Sling from Way of the Gun. Designed by Special Forces Veteran and IDPA USPSA Grand Master Frank Proctor, it is a two-point adjustable sling that is designed to be attached without any additional hardware. Lack of mounting hardware is of the things that I constantly run across. It never fails that someone will show up to a class I’m in without a sling / mounting hardware or I’ll have a chance to shoot a new weapon at a range and once again, no way to mount a sling. That alone makes this sling worth taking a look at.

20130624-205812.jpg

It uses 550 cord on either end to attach to the weapon. At the rear you utilize a girth hitch through the QD mount or other slot on the stock. At the front it is slid down over the barrel to the hand guard and kept fast by cinching tight in a groove in the Picatinny rail.

20130624-203902.jpg

Excess webbing on the adjustable end of the Proctor sling remains stored so there’s nothing loose to get in the way or be stepped on.

Available in Black, Coyote and MultiCam.
