Olympic Arms Issues New York State Sales Policy

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Almost on the heels of LaRue Tactical‘s controversial policy on sales to LE in areas that restrict civilian ownership of their products, Olympic Arms issued this statement yesterday regarding sales of their products to law enforcement in the State of New York. Say what you will but Oly Arms has been in this for the long haul. In fact, I owned one before the 1994 AWB.

Press Release: Olympic Arms, Inc. Announces New York State Sales Policy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Olympic Arms is a staunch believer in and defender of the Constitution of the United States, and with special attention paid to the Bill of Rights that succinctly enumerates the security of our Divinely given Rights. One of those Rights is that to Keep and Bear Arms.

Legislation recently passed in the State of New York outlaws the AR15 and many other firearms, and will make it illegal for the good and free citizens of New York to own a large selection of legal and safe firearms and magazines. We feel as though the passage of this legislation exceeds the authority granted to the government of New York by its citizens, and violates the Constitution of the United States, ignoring such SCOTUS rulings as District of Columbia v. Heller – 554, U.S. 570 of 2008, McDonald v. Chicago – 561 U.S. 3025 of 2010, and specifically the case of United States v. Miller – 307 U.S. 174 of 1939.

Due the passing of this legislation, Olympic Arms would like to announce that the State of New York, any Law Enforcement Departments, Law Enforcement Officers, First Responders within the State of New York, or any New York State government entity or employee of such an entity – will no longer be served as customers.

In short, Olympic Arms will no longer be doing business with the State of New York or any governmental entity or employee of such governmental entity within the State of New York – henceforth and until such legislation is repealed, and an apology made to the good people of the State of New York and the American people.

If the leaders of the State of New York are willing to limit the right of the free and law abiding citizens of New York to arm themselves as they see fit under the Rights enumerate to all citizens of the United State through the Second Amendment, we feel as though the legislators and government entities within the State of New York should have to abide by the same restrictions.

This action has caused a division of the people into classes: Those the government deems valuable enough to protect with modern firearms, and those whose lives have been deemed as having less value, and whom the government has decided do not deserve the right to protect themselves with the same firearms. Olympic Arms will not support such behavior or policy against any citizen of this great nation.

Olympic Arms invites all firearms manufacturers, distributors and firearms dealers to join us in this action to refuse to do business with the State of New York. We must stand together, or we shall surely fall divided.

Sincerely,

Brian Schuetz
President
Olympic Arms, Inc.

2nd Annual Military Mountain and Cold Weather Work Shop – Feb 20-22

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

I attended last year’s conference and I can tell you that it was a great mix of military mountaineering user representatives and industry. This year’s Military Mountain and Cold Weather Work Shop takes place next week in Stowe, VT 20-22 February.

Coordinated by Open Range Service Group, the Military Mountain and Cold Weather Work Shop is centered around practical exercise and use of the feature products of the attending vendors in a fantastic outdoor setting. Attendees will not only get to try gear out, but also cross pollinate experiences and TTPs.

As many of you know, travel and budget restrictions are hitting DoD hard. Consequently, they are introducing the Military Mountaineers Endless Knot Foundation. ORSG is teaming with past and present Mountain Soldiers to create this new opportunity. The Endless Knot Foundation will provide a venue where Military Mountaineers can unite and give back to the disciplines that they all have in common: the Military and the Mountains.

What’s more, any profits from this year’s work shop will be going to the Military Adaptive sports program. Retired Sergent Major Pat Viljanen is working with the program and will be on hand at the event, running clinics and giving a presentation on this truly amazing program.

Any questions, please contact Bill Pelkey.

Thales has made the following announcement –

Thales Communications, Inc., a global leader in the development, manufacture, and support of tactical communications products for warfighters and first responders, has appointed Aaron Brosnan as the company’s new Vice President of Business Development. Mr. Brosnan is responsible for developing and executing the company’s business development strategies and growing the company’s core business, including its next generation communications products.

Mr. Brosnan comes to Thales from SCI Technologies, Inc., a Sanmina-SCI company, where, as Vice President of Business Development, he was responsible for leading its new business initiatives in the areas of aviation communications systems and avionics products, ground tactical vehicular and command post communications systems, radiation detection systems, tethered fiber optic systems, and engineering services. Prior to SCI, Mr. Brosnan spent eight years with Thales, where he served in several key business development positions, most recently as Director, Business Development for Army Programs. While at Thales, he successfully led the initiatives in capturing naval and maritime communications programs and broadening the company’s product portfolio to include automated, integrated shipboard high frequency (HF) communication systems. He subsequently assumed responsibility for overseeing business in the areas of command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) products and systems. Before joining Thales, Mr. Brosnan held senior management roles, both in engineering and business development, at Raytheon Systems in the US and the UK.

“Aaron has extensive experience in senior business development and key account management roles within the defense industry,” said Michael Sheehan, President and CEO of Thales Communications, Inc. “He is a highly accomplished, well-respected industry leader very focused on understanding customer needs, developing effective solutions, and ensuring the continuous delivery of top-quality products and services.”

Mr. Brosnan is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He enlisted and was subsequently commissioned as a Naval Flight Officer. He graduated, with honors, from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering.
