Over the next two years all Dutch Soldiers will receive new combat boots.
“With this new footwear we put another important step forward in the in order of the armed forces.” With these words, armed forces Commanding General Tom Middendorp handed the first pair to Sergeant 1st Class Johan de Jong at the der clothing company of Defence in Soesterberg.
Priority of fielding is to deployers. Consequently, the 45 men and women of Air Task Force 22, who head this month to Mazar-e-Sharif were issued first. The Dutch military has also instituted a new foot measuring device to ensure a proper fit as they issue these 2 new boots which are intended for use in Netherlands and North-Western and Central Europe. The first is a multifunctional combat boot for use in rocky and mountainous terrain and incorporates a waterproof, breathable lining for temperate to cold areas. The second boot features a moisture regulating lining intended for temperate and warm areas. Together, these two boots replace a single model that was supposed to be a jack of all trades. While no brand name or model was mentioned, it appears everybody initially will get 2 variant of Meindl boots; the Island MFS and another unnamed model for hot weather. Additionally, the boots are issued with 6 pair of socks matched to the performance of the boot.
They’ve also adopted other models, the so-called desert or jungle gevechtslaarzen, which are special issue to troops stationed or deploying to those areas.
Thanks Ipkiss
The 4×32 BROWE SPORT Optic (BSO) is a purpose designed and built optic for AR-style rifles that is a non-powered alternative to the BROWE Combat Optic (BCO). It features a housing machined from solid Billet 6061-T6 Aluminum combined with SCHOTT Glass, and FLIR etched mirror reticle. It’s also waterproof and fog proof. The new Sport Optic also fits all the accessories offered for the 4×32 BCO.
The BSO’s most interesting feature is the battery free, Rechargeable Illumination Technology (RIT) reticle, which is environmentally friendly and non toxic. It’s kind of like using your flashlight to charge your cat eyes on your PC before a patrol. So basically, you charge it for about 15 seconds before you use it in low light. Notice it’s a SPORT optic there race fans. So no, it’s not designed for combat use. Not if you have to stop and charge it up before you use it.
This graphic will give you an idea of what the reticle looks like during day and at night while charged and glowing.
Late yesterday, Outdoor Retailer and the Outdoor Industry Association announced that the Winter and Summer Market tradeshows will continue in Salt Lake City through 2016. For some time now there has been conjecture that they might move to a new venue but with this announcement, that is all laid to rest, at least for the next few years.
Look for our live coverage of the OR Winter Market beginning later today.
CTOMS presents their new GREEN Kit (Assault Lead Climbers Rack) as part of their TRACE Systems colored kits series. This is purpose built mountaineering equipment for military/para-military climbing operations, solving problems that aren’t an issue in sport climbing, like sound and visual signature as well as armor, weapon and radio integration. It is compatible with both traditional and CTOMS’ TRACE rope systems.
It can be worn alone or attached to an armor vest and incorporates PALS compatible climber’s dump pouches with rear mounted compression straps to help manage the load.
This thing is freakin’ amazing! Check out the full specs in this brochure.

Mike Pannone 2-Day Covert Carry
Course description: 2-day Covert Pistol is a fast paced course designed to give students not only the technical but the practical understanding of the effective employment of their pistol from a covert concealed location.
The CTT-Solutions covert pistol program is designed to exercise and refine the skills necessary to access and effectively use a concealed handgun with a high level of speed and efficiency day or night. This course is based upon training I received at 1st SFOD-D, provided to the Federal Air Marshal Service while I was the head range instructor at the FAMS school, the chief in-service instructor at the Seattle Field office of the FAMS, taught and used during protection operations in Iraq and refined for a course recently taught to high level SOF assets prior to high threat deployment. Students will be required to use the same gun and holster throughout the entire course. Time will be allotted in the first day to identify the best type, location and wear of holster and associated equipment. The remainder of the course will be dedicated to making the use of the weapon from that configuration rapid, sure and effective. Although courses of fire will go out as far as 50m, the bulk will be multiple partially obscured targets with multiple shots per target at 03-15m.
The course is designed to safely make you an extremely competent legal concealed handgun carrier (civilian, military or law enforcement) and give a foundation of drills and concepts for you to maintain your skills at your own range. Tactics will revolve around awareness and avoidance with shooting always being the last resort.
Inspired by necessity, the Tough Hook is a hanger for your body armor. The designer, Tarik Lazri needed something to support his armor and equipment when in the FOB. Using I-beam construction his creation offers a 150+ lbs load capacity and a built in handle grip for easily transporting equipment.
He has placed the concept on Kickstarter in order to raise $11,000. He only has 18 days left. Like Obi-Wan Kenobi, you are his only hope.
