The Bino Harnesses for hunting all seem to be overkill and incompatible with LCE while the military never seemed to adopt anything beyond a simple strap which allows the binos to flop around.
I ran across the Ultra-Light Bino Harness from Rick Young Outdoors while persuing the wares in the outdoor pavilions during a recent trip to Salt Lake City during the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. It’s a simple affair, fashioned from shockcord and buckles. This makes it silent and allows the wearer to secure the binos and carry them in several different manners.

Biolite has long been out front in backcountry power generation with their stoves that create power whioe they heat food. At the recent OR Summer Market in Salt Lake City, they unveiled three new products.
The CookStove is great for someone who wants to get into outdoor cooking with wood (sticks, twigs, pinecones and pellets) without groundfires. Like the original CampStove it uses a fan assist to boil a liter of water in 4.5 minutes.
BioLite also introduced Solar Panels to their line up, the SolarPanel 5 and 5+. The 5 denotes five watts and they differ only in that the 5+ incorporates an onboard battery (2200mAh) which offers a full phone charge. The SolarPanels also include sundials to help maximize collection and a cool 360 degree kickstand to aid in mounting in uneven terrain and on vegetation.
The new Power Light Mini is a flat 135 lumen LED light with an onboard battery wthat can be powered by the other BioLite gear or other power sources via USB. Not only can it be charged but it also works as a battery and can power other items. Modes include Edgelit Lantern, Red Night Mode and Strobe functions. The Clipstand can attach to clothing, equipment or used as a stand.
Introduced at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market earlier this month, the tinderZIP from Exotac is a zipper pull made with Live Fire Gear Fire Cord. The interior strands of this kernmantel construction cord can be used as fire starters when removed from the sheath. They’ll make a great addition to jackets and other gear.
{Issaquah, WA} – Combat Flip Flops, a veteran-owned small business creating economic, educational and life-saving opportunities for those living in conflict areas, has announced another wringer to the line-up; Ned Post, former CEO of Smith Optics, has joined as an advisor.
“Post military service, I was fortunate enough to work with Ned in support of Smith Elite,” said Matthew ‘Griff’ Griffin, Combat Flip Flops Co-founder and CEO. “His leadership, style, and ability to motivate were inspiring. As an advisor and mentor, Ned will push Combat Flip Flops to the next level and we’re honored to have him help lead the Unarmed Forces.”
For over 20 years, Ned Post led Smith Optics out of Ketchum, ID as its CEO. During his tenure, Smith and his team transformed a small goggle company into a global outdoor and lifestyle accessories business, adding product lines including sunglasses, optical eyewear, helmets and ballistic military eye protection. Smith sales grew from $15 million to $110 million under his leadership and the brand became recognized as the market leader in winter sports goggles and helmets in North America.
“Since meeting Griff and learning about Combat Flip Flops’ mission, I’ve been inspired. I can’t imagine what it’s like to have your life turned upside down by the impact of war and while I don’t pretend to know what the solution is, I believe in what Combat Flip Flops is doing and can’t wait to join the movement,” said Post.
