Tuesday, October 20th, 2015

This is a release from Angel 7 Industries, through their A7 Defense & Aerospace division, regarding the release of the new A7 Stealth Eye Pro. The full release can be read below:

A7 Defense & Aerospace, a division of Angel 7 Industries, is proud to introduce the new A7 Stealth eye pro with super ballistic i-RMR technology, Ghost Shield super fast photochromic technology, and next-gen Laser Eye Protection (820-1064nm) all in one lens!

StealthFloat.psd

i-RMR technology is the industries’ most ballistically advanced and can defeat a shotgun blast, using steel shot, from 15 feet away. Ghost Shield is the industries’ fastest photochromic technology that darkens to 13% VLT in less than ten seconds, and is also the toughest as it is not a coating but is embedded in the lens material itself so there is nothing to scratch off and nothing that can be affected by sand, fuels, chemicals, etc. These two one-of-a-kind technologies have now been combined with next generation Laser Eye Protection (LEP) that protects in the range of 820-1064nm with a high VLT resulting in one lens with multi-mission, multi-threat capability.

    Tapco Inc Security Screens

    Tuesday, October 20th, 2015

As soon as I was introduced to Tapco Inc’s (no relation to the firearms accessory manufacturer) Security Screen, I started thinking asset and force protection.  If you’ve got a facility that needs the advantages of mesh wire screening for ventilation, yet are concerned that it makes it vulnerable to forced entry, you’ve got to check this material out.

    IMG_4249

Originally designed for use with hurricanes, TAPCO screens are composed of stainless steel wire mesh, while the frames, and other associated hardware, are made of 6063-T5 extruded aluminum and stainless steel. The screens are extremely durable, able to withstand hammer strikes and pry bars without producing enough give to allow entry; they are still accessible by rescue personnel utilizing specialized equipment, such as a K-12 rescue saw.  On the other side of the coin, they’ll definitely slow down an intruder, but you can open fire through the screen, if need be to reduce a threat.

TAPCO screens come in standard colors of Mill Finish, Bronze, or White, with special colors available.

Available for unit and industry purchase through Darley Defense.

Armageddon Gear – The Possibles Bag

    Tuesday, October 20th, 2015

The Possibles Bag is a traditional, general purpose shooter’s bag. In the past they’ve been made of a wide variety of materials including leather but Armageddon Gear makes a great family of Possibles Bags of Cordura nylon. Armageddon Gear founder, Tom Fuller introduced them to me while serving as my shooting partner during last weekend’s Gap Grind PRS match.  Yeah, they kind of remind me of Crown Royal bags.

They feature a drawstring bungee closure which keeps goods in place, yet can quickly be opened when necessary. The Possibles Bag comes in three sizes:

Small, good for batteries, keys, hand-held GPS units, etc.

Medium, good for spare mags, binos, rangefinders, etc.

Large, good for jumper cables, clothing, jackets, etc.

Available in various solid colors, such as Black and Coyote, and camouflage patterns, including the A-TACS AU and FG seen here as well as MultiCam.

Bushnell Elite 1 Mile CONX Laser Rangefinder

    Monday, October 19th, 2015

Back in June, Applied Ballistics announced that their G7 curve ballistic software would be featured in a new package along with the Kestrel Sportsman and the Bushnell Elite 1 Mile CONX Laser Rangefinder. The system experienced its public debut over the weekend, during the Gap Grind precision shooting competition.

It detects ranges from 5 to 1,760 yards, with +/- one-yard accuracy, but distance output can be swapped to meters on the fly. The 7x magnification LRF’s lenses feature RainGuard® HD, a permanent anti-fog and water-repellent coating. Additionally, the Elite 1 Mile CONX is built to IPX7 waterproof standard which means immersion to 1m for 30 minutes.

The 1 Mile CONX connects to the Kestrel Sportsman via Bluetooth 4.0 (low energy). That may give the folks in the Information Assurance business some heartburn, so Bushnell has spent the past several months integrating 128 bit AES encryption. There is also PSK required for authentication. It’s dual layer encryption with each unit unique.

The LRF uses a CR123 Battery. Use of the CONX capability results in just an additional 5% of battery life. The system is FCC/CE Certified and incorporates a 904nm laser.

There’s also an app under development for both iOS and Android. Although only one device at a time can be connected via Bluetooth, it will allow shooters to make ballistic calculations on their mobile device with imported data from either the Kestrel or LRF. Additionally, the app allows user to create up to three custom drop tables. Finally, the shooter can mount it on his weapon and use it as a real time display.

I was able to try it out during the Gap Grind. The data swap is seamless. You laze a target and not only does the distance, as well as selected (up to three custom profiles) ballistic solution show up at the bottom of the LRF screen, but also on the Kestrel. The output is a fusion of distance to target and environmental data applied to the G7 curve. It’s certainly worth checking out. Some of you might even get a chance this week at Fort Benning, Georgia where the Bushnell Elite 1 Mile CONX Laser Rangefinder will be on display during the 2015 International Sniper Competition.

Incidentally, Bushnell Laser Rangefinders are no stranger to the US Army. They’ve fielded over 20,000 of the non-bluetooth version over the past 18 months for use in support of mortars and Mk19 40mm grenade launchers.

The Bushnell Elite 1 Mile CONX Laser Rangefinder will be available for commercial before Christmas, as a stand alone or packaged along with the Kestrel Sportsman.
