U.S. Optics will be proudly hosting its first competition with Competition Dynamics on August 5-7th in Douglas, Wyoming.

Brea, California— April 15, 2016 — U.S. Optics, Inc., an international riflescopes and optics manufacturer, is excited to announce the inaugural U.S. Optics Team Challenge match open to competitors across the nation. Developed by the same skillful directors behind the prevalent Competition Dynamics matches, the U.S. Optics Team Challenge match includes concepts from U.S. Optics’ general manager and U.S. Optics Academy’s director of education. It will be held across an expansive natural terrain at a private ranch in Douglas, Wyoming on August 4th -7th, 2016.

The match format will consist of 2-man teams navigating through stages of rugged terrain. Competitors will be challenged to recognize, locate, and engage in a variety of rifle targets from compromised shooting positions and time constraints.

Over 2 days, the challenge combines “hike-and-shoot” field shooting with precision rifles and semi-automatic carbines; timed “3-Gun style” shooting with rifle, carbine, and pistols; and a featured U.S. Optics gun stage.

Demonstrations and side matches will take place on the ranging day, August 4th, before the competition. This will allow the competitors the opportunity to try out different optics and other gear while having a friendly competition before the main match takes place.

In addition to the range day and side matches, U.S. Optics will be awarding prizes throughout the duration of the competition. Although the company is not releasing details of this yet, shooters can rest assure that several thousands of dollars in prizes will be awarded before the match comes to a conclusion.

“We are thrilled to be hosting our first match with Competition Dynamics,” says U.S Optics’ General Manager, Jason Kyle. “It has always been a great experience sponsoring and participating in their matches in the past. We’re looking forward to getting competitors out there and showing them an outstanding time, while considering making this an annual event.”

Competition Dynamics has been putting on competitive events with practical and field style shooting since 2008. And is known for pushing the capabilities of both the shooter and their firearms as they navigate through a range of challenging courses, such as their annual Sniper Challenge and Steel Safari Challenge.

Brandon “Action” Jackson – a highly decorated retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant, loving father, brother, son, friend, adventurer, and the closest many of us will come to knowing a real life action hero – passed away at the early age of 37 on March 31, 2016. He leaves behind a loving family and a young 2-year-old daughter. We are creating this page to help his family that is spread out all over the country get to the funeral at Arlington National Cemetery and to create an education fund to pass along to his young daughter.

Brandon was an 18 year veteran of the US Army. Even at a very young age he knew that a life of service was his calling and from that moment on he lived and breathed all things Army. As soon as he graduated from high school in Detroit he joined the Army and quickly raised through the ranks joining the Rangers and Joint Special Operations Command, inspiring and motivating everyone who knew him. He is the recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal w/ Valor, and Purple Heart, among others.

Brandon loved his friends and family deeply and was absolutely enamored with his amazingly bright daughter. He was an inspiration to all who knew him as he lived every single day to the fullest. An avid adventurer, it seemed there was nothing Brandon couldn’t do as he excelled in everything from rock climbing to mountaineering to alpine sports to BASE jumping.

(This fund was created by Cameron Freeman – Brandon’s cousin. All funds will go towards Brandon’s daughter’s education and to help with the family’s cost of travel for the funeral.)

Pure Hydration – Sentinel InLine Individual Water Purification Device

Sentinel InLine

Pure Hydration is a company owned and founded by Jon Grant, who has been involved with both the Marine Corps and Army Individual Water Purification programs. Pure Hydration’s latest product, the Sentinel InLine, was developed specifically for military application as an inline filtration system for use with military personnel in the field. It has to be noted that the Sentinel is currently in the prototype stage, although it has passed independent NSF P248 testing, and Pure Hydration is seeking funding through Kickstarter for further testing and refinement of the Sentinel.

Pure Hydration products feature purifiers which utilize a non-woven, tortuous path depth filter media, with up to 400 layers of pores between high surface area sub-micron fibers. The fibers remove negatively charged sub-micron particles through electroadhesion and electro adsorption, while larger particles are caught within the fiber matrix. Powdered carbon and silver ion components within the filter media further neutralize a broad spectrum of contaminants, allowing water to pass through the filter, clean and safe to drink. The filters have been tested as blocking the following media and pathogens:

  • 99.99997% removal of Bacteria (Cholera, E. coli, Salmonella typhi, etc.)
  • 99.999% removal of Viruses (Hepititis A, Norovirus, Polio, etc.)
  • 99.993% removal of Parasitic pathogens (Cryptosporidium, Giardia, etc.)
  • Also provides protection against such as heavy metals (Cadmium, Chromium, Mercury, etc.) and other inorganic compounds, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs – Benzine, Chloroform, 1,1-1,2 – Dichloroethane, MTBE, etc.)

Eddie Bauer – Flying Squirrel Sleeping Bag

    Tuesday, April 19th, 2016

In our quest to share as many zipper less sleeping bags as possible to our readers, we present the aptly named Flying Squirrel from Eddie Bauer.

The materials are top notch.  The shell is a 20D Pertex® Ripstop nylon shell and it features 850 fill Stormdown® insulation.  I allow like the crossover flap design which goes way down to knee level making it much easier to get in and out of.

For tactical use, it’s got one glaring issue; the color. Pimento and Black aren’t perfect, but the concept is awesome. I bought one of these 40 degree bags for one of my sons and he’ll be taking it out this weekend for a test drive. He’s already used it for a night in the couch and really liked how well he could vent, but I want to hear how it works put for a night in a hammock.
