Ecliptus GIF_03

(BOISE, IDAHO– May 27, 2016) GSA customers can now capture the night with the new Ecliptus, night vision GoPro camera and for a very limited time, below the micropurchase limit for Government Card Holders. The Ecliptus will be available for $3,495—a $2,000 discount—during the month of June by Aviation Specialties Unlimited, Inc. (ASU) a Boise, Idaho-based night vision company on GSA Contract GS-07F-0345J.

“We have received great feedback on the Ecliptus product,” said ASU President Jim Winkel. “The Ecliptus is rugged, lightweight, and affordable. Because the Ecliptus offers the unique combination of remote video recording with night vision capabilities using the GoPro HERO 4 camera, it is very appealing for law enforcement agencies, special task forces, search and rescue crews and numerous other public service organizations. The GSA special introductory pricing makes it even easier to purchase.”

The Ecliptus can record both day and night. This allows video documentation and still images for security, training, sporting, wildlife research and media production in extremely low light scenarios that were nearly impossible to document previously.

“We know that many agencies may need multiple Ecliptus camera systems, but this GSA introductory price will assure that at least the first one can be ordered without a lot of complications while also adhering to government buying guidelines. Once agencies see the value of our new product, we will work with them to arrange bulk orders, purchase orders, etc.”

The Ecliptus weighs less than one pound, is integrated with the GoPro HERO4 and captures images at 12 megapixels with a burst mode at 30 frames per second. It captures night vision images utilizing an AN/PVS-14 objective lens, records in ultra-high definition (4X HD), and stores these images using a 16 GB SD card. Images and video can also be viewed in real time using WiFi-enabled smart devices. The camera modes can be controlled using the GoPro button controls and optionally from remote mobile devices. The MSRP of the new Ecliptus is $5,499.

For more information about the introductory price, to obtain specification on the Ecliptus or for assistance placing an order visit www.asu-nvg.com/ecliptus or call 208-426-8117.

Colt Introduces Updated Models for Summer 2016 – Colt Delta Elite, Colt Defender, 9mm Colt Combat Unit Rail Gun, and 9mm Stainless Colt Rail Gun

Thursday, June 2nd, 2016

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (June 1, 2016) – Building on the momentum achieved in early 2016 with the release of the Colt Competition Pistol, Colt Combat Unit Rail Gun, and Colt Expanse M4, Colt wastes no time in updating its current handgun lineup. Updated models include the Delta Elite and Defender which have been thoroughly revised, and the Colt Combat Unit Rail Gun and stainless steel Rail Gun which are now offered in 9mm.

Colt Defender O7800XE

“Long before I came to Colt I bought a Defender, which I love,” said Paul Spitale, Senior VP at Colt. “I quickly realized that there were a few things about it that kept it from being perfect for concealed carry, so when I came to Colt early last year that was a project that was very important to me.” The Defender is now offered in two finishes: the stainless steel model is available only in .45 ACP and features the same brushed stainless steel slide, stainless Cerakote coated aluminum receiver, and three dot sight structure as the outgoing model but now feature custom Colt G10 grips and a carry cut on the front of the slide for ease of concealment. The new black and blued model offers all the upgrades of the stainless model, as well as a blued carbon steel slide and black Cerakote coated aluminum receiver, a Tritium front night sight and blacked out rear Novak low mount carry sight for ease of target acquisition, and the option either of 9mm or .45 ACP. MSRP on the stainless model is unchanged at $899, while the upgraded black and blued model is offered at $949.

Colt Delta Elite O2020XE

The Delta Elite has always been the choice of enthusiasts who want the stopping power of 10mm in a genuine Colt 1911 platform pistol. “Although it was developed for tactical applications that require more power in a reliable package, nowadays the Delta Elite is for the outdoorsman who’s hunting medium sized game and wants a powerful handgun for when things get up-close,” said Justin Baldini, Product Director at Colt. “So we took the existing model and added modernized features that not only pay homage to its tactical heritage, but also make it an outstanding package for hunting or personal defense.” The redesigned Delta Elite features an upswept beavertail grip safety, extended thumb safety, composite stocks with Delta medallions, and Novak white dot sights. MSRP is unchanged at $1,099

Lastly, the Colt Rail Gun line has been updated to include 9mm versions of both the stainless steel Rail Gun and Colt Combat Unit Rail Gun. “Colt offering a Rail Gun in 9mm is a perfect example of us listening to what our customers want,” said Spitale. “The accessory rail allows for secure mounting of a tactical light while also providing excellent balance for the shooter. Add to that the combination of 9mm and our Dual Spring Recoil System, and the recoil is greatly reduced making for a very pleasurable shooting experience.” The standard stainless Colt Rail Gun has an MSRP of $1,199, and the Colt Combat Unit Rail Gun has an MSRP of $1,499.

USSOCOM Selects 300 Norma Mag for ASR

Wednesday, June 1st, 2016

United States Special Operations Command not only has its own budget but it is also an acquisition authority with the ability to procure SOF-unique weapons and equipment. Awhile back we told you that the follow on to their Precision Sniper Rifle would be called the Advanced Sniper Rifle.

According to Long Range Shooting Handbook, the ASR will be chambered for the 300 Norma Mag. Norma offers the round with a 230 gr Berger projectile.

So far, Long Range Shooting Handbook is the only source of this info. Regardless, this new round is quite interesting and a departure from other specialist ammunition adopted for precision applications such as .300 Win Mag and .338 Lapua. I look forward to seeing the other requirements for the ASR once they are finalized.

3rd Annual CW2 Duskin 3-Gun – Part 2

Wednesday, June 1st, 2016

Link to Part One

The execution of the CW2 Duskin 3-Gun Match is the result of a year’s worth of planning by the members of 3rd Special Forces Group. As in previous years, a number of individuals also selflessly donated their time to ensuring the match’s success as it truly is a community effort!

The prize table was organized by volunteers from the Task Force Dagger Foundation and we had an overwhelming amount of support from a whopping 75 total sponsors who generously donated items resulting in a prize table in excess of $60,000! This becomes even more impressive when you take into account the fact that the match is not advertised and there is no promise of return on investment. Those who sponsored did so purely to show their support for the Special Operations Community.

Nordic Components provided shotgun ammo for all of our military shooters who also received bags of goodies from Magpul, FIREClean, ADS, Inc. and Monster Energy. In addition, all shooters also received a match shirt from Black Palm Syndicate. Hell, my UPS guy even helped in suggesting local companies who might want to sponsor once I told him why I was getting a bunch of weird packages sent to me. After all, when you know why the Duskin 3-Gun match exists, you can’t help but want to support it!

We will be sharing pictures from the match as well as a video in future posts but in the meantime, check out the video from last year here!

MMI Textiles Introduces MultiCam Printed Webbing

Wednesday, June 1st, 2016

During SOFIC we ran into MMI Textiles and they told us they had secured a license to print MultiCam webbing.

One of the things I like about their printed webbing is that the edges aren’t white.
