ORSM – Mystery Ranch

Tuesday, August 9th, 2016

Mystery Ranch has a whole slew of new commercial packs for Spring 2017, and I like quite a few of them, but if I had to pick just one, it’s the Coulee 40 which is a 40 liter bag based on the tried-and-true Tri-Zip design. However, you may notice that they’ve added stretch panels to the outside to accept items you want to access quickly, or let dry while you walk.

My second favorite is the Scapegoat 25 panel loader. Like many of MR’s commercial line, it is offered in a couple of colors which are great for the tactical user.

The Hip Monkey is a waist pack design.

The Invader is an attaché-style bag.

Kletterwerks has a few cool items in there was well.

Scroll Factory – Bn Cat Eyes Pre-Order

Tuesday, August 9th, 2016

Despite being called “ranger eyes” all over the internet, the proper name for the luminescent markers placed in the back of PCs (Patrol Caps), Helmet Camouflage bands and Packs is “cat eyes”. They just happen to be worn by Rangers, along with others who patrol at night.

Scroll Factory is offering a pre-order for cat eyes in the Ranger Bn shapes. These are Glow-in-the-dark patches with Velcro backing.

Tactical Link – PDW Grip

Tuesday, August 9th, 2016

The PDW Grip is a drop-in upgrade for AR style rifles with a more vertical angle, optimized for short LOP (length of pull) personal defense weapons (PDW), bringing the primary hand in closer to the shooter’s body, encouraging a more natural “elbows in” shooting posture which substantially reduces wrist fatigue and is concurrent with modern shooting doctrine.

Made to the finest standards from an extremely durable fiber-reinforced polymer, the PDW Grip is the result of extensive professional shooter feedback and engineering excellence that has produced one of the finest shooting upgrades in the market today. The PDW Grip sports a patent pending design with “zones” of moderately aggressive surface texture to provide unmatched gripping properties for positive weapon control in all environments.

The PDW Grip is compatible with most lower receiver mounting platforms (forged or billet) and provides improved biomechanics to better align the trigger finger for a more comfortable and direct rearward trigger pull. Due to its hollow core design (no internal storage), the PDW Grip weighs only 2.1 oz and since the PDW Grip is a drop-in upgrade it is sold without a grip screw.

Shooter Refined Ergonomics:
At 14 degrees, the PDW Grip is 235% (19 degrees) more vertical than the standard A2 grip and is the most comfortable and relaxing grip on the marketplace. Places the hand’s flexor muscles on more of the same plane creating a more natural hand position for a more natural hand position with little to no fatigue even during prolonged use.

Optimized Biomechanics:
Small beavertail backstrap provides enhanced ergonomics and allows the operator’s hand to ride high on the grip for improved recoil management and fire control.

Tactile Gripping Texture:
Much more aggressive texture than most other grips on the marketplace. “Zones” of more aggressive anti-slip texturing on the palm panels for excellent gripping properties and for positive weapon control in all environments.

Features:
-All edges rounded for operator comfort
-Reinforced beaver tail for extra rigidity
-Aggressive PSP (Pentagonal Surface Projections) Texture on both palm panels for superior weapon control
-Grooves on the front and rear backstraps for optimal anti-slip surface and excellent gripping properties
-Accommodates the “seam” commonly found on the beaver tail of forged lower receivers
-Unique trigger guard design provides a very comfortable, and absolutely the best fit at the trigger guard area of any grip on the market
-Grip “pulls” the operator’s hand forward into the grip for a more positive grip and better operational control of the weapon
-Robust design easily exceeds industry standards for quality, strength and durability
-100% made in USA

Prater Precision Sniper Data Board

Tuesday, August 9th, 2016

I first saw the Sniper Data Board from Prater Precision at this year’s USASOC Sniper Competition. It’s one of those pieces of gear that you see and immediately understand how it’s used.

Designed by a Special Operations Sniper, the Sniper Data Board was created out of necessity and its creator related this story to me.

In 2014, I had a moment of “creative necessity”. My Team Sgt was pinned down and I moved into a better position to provide sniper support. After running through half of my ammo, I found another target but I couldn’t remember my hold, I broke my position down and checked my “DOPE” on my sleeve and in that three second window, the Taliban fighter had vanished. I knew right then I needed something that could hold my data card or Kestrel on my gun so I would never lose that three seconds again.

Since that firefight, he’s spent the last two years refining the design of the product to the point where he felt comfortable presenting it to his fellow snipers. He’s also filed for a patent on the design.

In the photo above, you can see that the Data Board is designed to attach to a Mil-Std 1913 top rail and is adjustable by the sniper to ensure it is in the field of view. This design also mitigates some of the shock associated with recoil. The Data Board will also accept a Kestrel.

The metal components are manufactured from 6061 Aluminum and Mil-Spec Type III anodized. Offered with Coyote or MultiCam pouch from praterprecision.com/the-sniper-data-board.

Emberlit- SprongS

Tuesday, August 9th, 2016

I noted the SprongS from Elberlit at OR. They are an interesting creation which combines a spork and a fork into a set of tongs for cooking. Although, unlike traditional tongs, the SprongS can be disconnected to be used as individual utensils. Additionally, the spoon is 1 tablespoon in volume, a common and useful unit of measure and the fork doubles as a bail hook for lifting hot lids and pots. Made in the USA from food safe, BPA free, hi temp (400° F), ultra strong, and flexible nylon. Offered in Red and Slate.
