GAOS – Triumph Systems
Monday, February 13th, 2017Triumph Systems is new to me and I always enjoy encountering new companies, particularly those owned by fellow Veterans. In this case, Triumph Systems is owned by former SEAL Jared Ogden. You may remember him from National Geographic Channel’s “Ultimate Survival Alaska”. They make a bunch of different training targets for both tactical and hunting.
For this article, I’ll stick to the Pivotal Trainer which is used in conjunction with two-sided targets, featuring threat and non-threat scenarios.
The lightweight target frame can be used with the included legs or hung in doorframes or other areas. When mounting, just remember that the target will be turning around. All told, it weighs 13 lbs so it’s not bad to carry around on the range when setting up for new scenarios.
The Pivotal Trainer has three positions, with the home position presenting the target perpendicular to the shooter.
The wireless controller can be set for automatic or manual mode.
GAOS – Mudd Ox
Monday, February 13th, 2017Mudd Ox is a US manufacturer of amphibious, all-terrain vehicles. While much of their business is recreational in nature, they have begun to gain traction in military markets internationally. Additionally, they have participated in several experiments by the services here in the US.
Mudd Ox offers various models which include both Mogas and Turbo Diesel powerplants. They all incorporate chain drive and have the option of skid steer which allows you to drive it like a tracked vehicle with counter rotating wheels on either side from tight maneuverability. Speaking of tracks, the all-terrain tires will accept band tracks for use on snow and soft terrain. The vehicles will accept up to six passengers and can be equipped with a flat, cargo deck to the rear along with PTO for generators as well as roll bars which can be lowered for getting into tight spaces. Winches are standard equipment and I wouldn’t operate one of these without one considering the terrain it is meant to negotiate.

Wilcox Industries – FUSION SYSTEM
Monday, February 13th, 2017I saw the Wilcox Industries FUSION SYSTEM at SHOT Show but there’s so much going on with it that I asked Wilcox for a write up and photos to help introduce it to SSD’s readers.
The Wilcox FUSION SYSTEM™ is a lightweight, modular rifle forearm system that is designed to fit on the Caracal CAR816-A2 and Kale KCR556 rifle platform.
This FUSION SYSTEM offers a streamlined solution to powering mission essential equipment normally requiring numerous individually powered devices. With the FUSION SYSTEM these devices can be powered with (1) one lithium CR123 battery and a reserve battery standing by. It is as simple as a flip of a switch to initiate the reserve battery. The depleted battery can then be hot swapped.
The system is comprised of a integrated reflex sight, laser suite, and Surefire duel spectrum flashlight. A 3X “Aimpoint” multiplier (optional) is featured with a Wilcox flip mount this allows the system to be used as a CQB device or for taking that long shot.
The FUSION SYSTEM optical suite is unique in that it houses a reflex sight, back up iron sight, red visible laser, IR laser, and fixed IR illuminator all factory co-aligned with one windage and elevation knob allowing for easy bore-sighting to the weapon. A dual zero trajectory switch on top of the optic suite allows the end user to zero the weapon for two distances or two ammo types all while maintaining co-alignment. This switch, when turned, automatically cants the optical suit to the proper point of aim point of impact depending on desired ammo and/or ballistics day or night that is desired.
The FUSION SYSTEM incorporates a unique low and high power output level governor. The blue lockout screw requires docking in the off line storage spot that electronically engages the use of the high powered lasers.
The FUSION SYSTEM can also be adjusted “on the fly” using the ambidextrous pressure pads to determine the reflex sight, laser suite, and flashlight brightness. A SureFire dual spectrum light provides both white light at 250 lumens and IR light at 100mw’s.
The installation and removal of the FUSION SYSTEM in the field is effortless, requiring no tools and maintains consistent repeatability and bore-sight retention when cleaning the weapon. The unique triangular silicone pads insulate the operator from the build up of weapon heat experienced with heavy weapon usage. The square silicon pads at the 6 o’clock position can be individually removed to allow a vertical grip assembly to be installed in its place.

‘Raise The Black’ Fundraiser
Monday, February 13th, 2017We’ve had notions of “hoisting the black flag” at some point in our lives. While the thought of being a pirate is a romantic notion, the black flag has been used by Daesh to terrorize the Middle East. It’s time to take it back and there’s a way to do it. One group of men who strike fear in the hearts of ISIS are ISOF.
A group of retired SF NCOs who worked with the Iraqi Special Operations Forces from 2004-2011 want to show the world what their Iraqi brothers are doing in defense of their country.
They are raising funds to create these flags which will be shipped to Iraq and flown by ISOF as they destroy Daesh.
The flag was inspired by ISOF’s use of black uniforms and black gun trucks. They took the traditional pirate flag and replace the sabers with crossed arrows of the Special Forces branch. The term “Nous Defions” is the motto of SF’s direction action elements.
