Rest In Peace Jim Schatz

Saturday, March 18th, 2017

Unfortunately, I have to report that Jim Schatz has passed away. He served his country as a paratrooper and later, became a legend in the small arms industry.

I first met Jim while he was at H&K. He ran one helluva a weapons demo and was extremely knowledgeable about small arms as well as the US military’s acquisition of them.

He will be missed.

Mustang Survival Celebrates at Bassmaster Classic with Mike McClelland

Friday, March 17th, 2017

Popular fishing gear on sale, photos with Mike and a chance to win an autographed PFD

Burnaby, BC – Mustang Survival®, the North American brand known for innovative solutions for the most demanding marine environments, will be on hand at this month’s 2017 Geico Bassmaster Classic presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods in Houston, TX, March 24 – 26, 2017. Displaying and selling the most popular fishing items in their collection, Mustang Survival, along with professional bass angler Mike McClelland, can be found at the Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo, booth 2617.

Attendees are encouraged to come by the expo and have their photo taken with Mike McClelland in the Mustang Survival both from 3-4 p.m. on Friday, March 24, and 1-2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 25-26. While there, fans can also enter for a chance to win an autographed Mike McClelland Elite™ BC Inflatable PFD. Those unable to attend the Expo can enter online at http://ow.ly/WYIK309KxUO.

Mustang Survival is also incredibly proud to acknowledge all of the military service men and women on Military Appreciation Day, Friday, March 24, and will give a free pair of Traction Gloves for every purchase made by an eligible military member that day.

Throughout the Expo, Mustang Survival will be showcasing some of its most popular new products, available for sale in its onsite pop-up shop, including:

Rev Young Adult PFD. Built for a serious fishing mission, this vest is as versatile as its owner. Specially designed segmented interior foam panels provide an active, flexible fit, and cooling channels on the interior back keep the wearer cool. Fits better than size small adult vests for enhanced performance both in and out of the water.

Traction Gloves. Engineered for fishing and a first for Mustang Survival, the Traction Gloves were tested in Mustang Survival’s R&D lab proving a 30-50% grip improvement over bare hands. In further lab testing, the Traction Open Finger Gloves also showed a significant dexterity increase over bare hands, and the entire line is designed for enhanced wet grip performance. Whether fishermen are seeking sun protection, or a little extra warmth on cold mornings, there are multiple Traction Glove styles and weights available to provide protection from the elements.

Gear Haulers. Using material and technology knowledge gained from decades of experience designing and manufacturing dry suits for military, coast guard and rescue teams, the new line of Gear Haulers from Mustang Survival will keep your gear dry and protected in the nastiest of conditions.

“We are excited to once again be part of the Bassmaster Classic,” says Jason Leggatt, vice president and general manager of Mustang Survival. “As a showcase for peak performance, the event serves as an inspiration point for our design team to create inspired technical solutions engineered to perform in extreme conditions. It also gives us a great opportunity to interact with our users and showcase our latest product innovations.”

With a passion for keeping everyone safe while on or near the water, Mustang Survival will once again conduct boat yard PFD inspections for Bassmaster Classic competitors. Doing so will ensure all anglers have functioning PFDs in serviceable condition, and its importance cannot be overstated: Past inspections at the Classic have found an average of 5% of units requiring maintenance.

Ft Bragg Warfighter Expo – Battelle DroneDefender

Friday, March 17th, 2017

The proliferation of inexpensive, commercial drones has led to their increased use on the battlefield, with friends and foes alike employing them for both ISR and kinetic weapon use. Consequently, there has to be a Counter to Unmanned Aerial Systems. Battelle has introduced their cUAS in the form of the DronedDfender.

Quite simply, the DroneDefender’s signal disrupts the remote control link of the UAS. This video gives you an idea of how it works.

The DroneDefender is a similar form factor as the M16 which makes it simple to aim at a target and blends in better on the battlefield with standard weapons.
