International Tactical Medicine Competition 2021

Tuesday, May 11th, 2021

The International Tactical Medicine Competition is Back!

The past year has been trying for everyone. The new normal we have now become accustomed to is not going anywhere soon. The 2020 ITMC had to be canceled, to comply with international restrictions put on gatherings and travel. However, we have good news! ITMC 2021 is a go! With protective measures in place, the 2021 ITMC will have been worth the wait!

The 2021 International Tactical Medicine Competition will be held at The SOARescue Farm- Training Center just outside of Charlotte in Concord, North Carolina on Sunday, June 27th, hosted by SOARescue. The event will be held just prior to the Special Operations Medical Association Scientific Assembly. In total, 8 two-man teams will compete for the title of 2021 Champions. This year’s competitors come from across North America from coast to coast as well as internationally.

A new addition to this year’s competition will be a pre-competition conference. Historically, there has been a competitor train-up day prior to the competition. The opportunity to offer additional training to attendees is a new concept, that we hope will further the mission of the event as a whole. The pre-conference will take place on 25-26 June at the SOARescue Farm in concord. There will be three tracks of training modules. Some of the topics covered will be Field Amputation, Ventilator Management, POCUS, Rope Rescue, Procedure Labs, Blast Injury Management, Non-Compressible Torso Trauma, Resuscitation & Blood Product Administration.

Each team will be tasked with a grueling 4-stage course that is both mentally and physically challenging. The stages transition the competitors through each of the TCCC/TECC phases of care, as well as prolonged and en route care. Teams are challenged with a variety of skills, from providing care under a direct threat to treating casualties with critical care medicine using limited resources. These are the same skills that tactical medics must utilize when they are faced with a wide range of calls/missions, such as a school shooting or evacuation from a far-forward austere setting.

Competitors are also challenged negotiating obstacles or difficult terrain with a casualty. Casualties may have to be hoisted or lowered depending on the situation to moved to a place where they can meet an evacuation asset. The public is welcome as spectators. Spectators can watch teams working through treating various casualties and overcoming the obstacles of challenging scenarios. Teams will be competing from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday, June 27th.

This competition has been an incredible opportunity for civil and military operational medical professionals to work together in friendly competition. The training competitors engaged in before the competition has made each competitor a better medical provider and competing allows them to find any weaknesses they may have. We hope to continue and grow this unique competition, to better prepare our responders, and to help the community better understand the services provided. It is our deepest desire to foster an environment for our nation’s responders to hone their skills, so that if the unfortunate moment comes, they are better prepared.

The previous National Tactical Medicine Competitions and now International Tactical Medicine Competition have been a huge success thanks to all of our contributing sponsors, role players, patient actors, judging staff, and adjunct facilitators.

SIG SAUER, Inc Files P365 Magazine Patent Infringement Case Against Springfield, Inc

Tuesday, May 11th, 2021

NEWINGTON, N.H., (May 11, 2021) – Today, SIG SAUER, Inc., filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois, Rock Island Division, alleging that Springfield, Inc. (Springfield Armory) infringes two SIG patents relating to SIG’s P365 magazine.

The P365 has seen tremendous commercial success, due to the innovative design of the high-capacity magazine.  In its complaint, SIG alleges that Springfield Armory’s making and selling of certain “Hellcat” branded magazines infringes upon two SIG patents.  SIG SAUER is seeking injunctive relief, as well as monetary damages for Springfield Armory’s past and ongoing infringement.

Ron Cohen, President and Chief Executive Officer, made the following statement:

“When the SIG SAUER P365 was introduced it took the market by storm as the most innovative high-capacity, micro-compact pistol to be introduced due to its magazine capacity, and quickly became one of the top selling handguns in the market due to this unprecedented innovation.  SIG is not a litigious company, but given the extent of infringement by Springfield, SIG has a responsibility to protect both our intellectual property and the significant investment we make to develop our innovative products.  As a company we are proud to yield more than 100 patents worldwide, with more than 40 patent applications currently pending, and we will protect the extensive research and design that goes into developing these patents rigorously.”

New SPD Invictus IL Folder from PDW

Tuesday, May 11th, 2021

SPD Edition Invictus-IL

Integral Lock Folding Knife with a Handle Machined from a Solid Block of Titanium

Prometheus Design Werx releases their newest iteration of the Invictus folding knife design featuring a unique handle machined from a solid block of titanium billet. This form of folding knife handle construction required the brand several years and as many machining centers to finally develop, produce, and deliver the highest quality of make in this folding knife. Other high-level details include a Böhler M390 alloy blade, ceramic pivot bearings, signature 5 fullers, lock-bar limiter insert, dive watch grade luminous inlays in the dual thumbstuds, and precision machined, fine details throughout this knife. The Invictus-IL is a purpose driven edged tool painstakingly made with state-of-the-art multi-axis CNC machines and the highest level of precision refinements found only in the best production tools.

The SPD Edition of the Invictus-IL by Prometheus Design Werx features the Kraken Trident mark representing their Special Projects Division.

The Design and R&D Team at PDW states:

“This version of the Invictus design is the original concept we started on 7 years ago. It literally took over 6 years and as many technical manufacturing centers to get our Invictus-IL to place where it was a replicable and producible reality. Ultimately it was a labor of love and really almost an obsession to get to the finish line and bring them to market. It was one of the very first design projects we worked on at PDW. For years, machine shop after machine shop tried, and unfortunately failed. We refused to give up and got on after it, year after year until we finally collated the right manufacturing network with the knowhow and equal perseverance to see this project through with us. At the end of the day, this is an edged tool with a purpose driven design, but also a great exercise and trial in modern folding knife manufacturing. There is nothing ‘fancy’ about this folder, however, there are a great deal of labor intensive industrial refinements found only in the best tools and machines in the world. The Invictus-IL isn’t for everyone, but it is for those who have a highest regard and appreciation for expertly made, detail oriented, functional metal objects and tools.”

The first delivery of the Invictus-IL will be available for $479.00 on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 12:00 noon Pacific via their website, prometheusdesignwerx.com.

Whiskey 5 – AMP Human

Tuesday, May 11th, 2021

Who

Amp Human was born out of biotech by co founders Erica Good (former Mckinsey & Co) and Jeff Byers (former NFL player). Good and Byers met when they joined the founding team of an early-stage biotech company over five years ago. This is where the transdermal technology behind Amp Human’s PR Lotion was developed. The biotech was focused on the technology’s medical applications, but Good and Byers saw the potential for a broader application. What if they could apply the technology to vitamins, minerals, and supplements? Their passion for Human performance fueled the idea and the eventual spin-out to create Amp Human.

What

Amp Human

Amp Human’s vision is for every human to be limitless. They achieve this through their portfolio of products that combine the right technology to meet human performance needs. Their flagship product, PR Lotion, is relied on by the world’s best athletes to give their bodies more bicarb to neutralize acid in muscles which helps them push harder and recover faster. PR Lotion is used by over 40% of the NFL and NHL, Tour de France winners, IronMan medalists, and Olympians, to name a few.

Amp Human has had strong success in the government space, specifically within the DoD. Amp Human has received three SBIRs from the US Air Force. The work behind the SBIRs focused on multiple use cases of their flagship technology and product, PR Lotion. They are currently working on a Phase II contract that will allow Amp Human to better understand a new use case of their flagship product, PR Lotion. Amp Human will be exploring a hydration-related use case with the 1 SOW (1st Special Operations Wing). Hydration is critical in maintaining elite performance, and this partnership will aim to solve a long-standing hydration challenge for the Air Force.

PR Lotion

PR Lotion is the first and only topical lotion to deliver sodium bicarbonate directly through the skin. Rheinmetall to Upgrade UK’s Challenger Main Battle Tank Fleet

Tuesday, May 11th, 2021

Rheinmetall has won a pioneering land forces order of pan-European and NATO-wide significance. The British Ministry of Defence has contracted with the Düsseldorf-based technology group to modernize the British Army’s main battle tank fleet. In all, 148 Challenger 2 main battle tanks will be upgraded with the 120mm smoothbore main armament from Rheinmetall, together with a completely new turret structure, including a state of the art digital system architecture. Forming part of the British Army’s Challenger 2 Life Extension Project, or LEP, the modernization programme is poised to convert this tried-and-tested tank into the new Challenger 3, keeping it in service for decades to come. The programme will take place during the 2021-2027 timeframe. Just announced in Telford (UK), the contract is worth around €770 million (£665 million).

The latest generation L55A1 smoothbore gun from Rheinmetall will place the modernized Challenger at the forefront of NATO tank technology. The Challenger 3 will be a network-enabled, digital tank featuring unsurpassed lethality and greatly improved survivability on the battlefield. It will be able to fire current and future Rheinmetall 120mm kinetic energy rounds and programmable multipurpose ammunition. Combined with the latest fire control technology and sensor systems, this will significantly boost the vehicle’s combat effectiveness, resulting in remarkably accurate firepower.

Much of the upgrade work will be carried out in the UK at the Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) plant in Telford in the West Midlands. The company boasts a rich heritage, having delivered the first Challenger 2 tanks to the British Army over 25 years ago. RBSL is a joint venture between Rheinmetall and BAE Systems, with Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH holding 55% of the shares.

As Armin Papperger, chief executive of Rheinmetall AG, recently put it, “We’re proud to be taking charge of one the United Kingdom’s most important army?technology programmes here in the cradle of the British tank industry. In technological terms, the upgrade will put the British Challenger tank on the cutting edge of NATO’s armed forces. To make this happen, we’ve amalgamated the longstanding expertise of RBSL with Rheinmetall of Germany’s unsurpassed know-how in large-calibre weapon systems, digitization and advanced turret solutions.”

John Abunassar, head of Rheinmetall’s Vehicle System’s division, points out that “The British Army is getting a world-class capability. At the same time, we’re celebrating the return of top-notch tank technology to the British Isles, because the bulk of the work will take place in the UK and involve the inclusion of numerous local suppliers. This announcement comes after years of hard work and collaboration with our customer, especially in the recent extraordinary circumstances brought about by COVID-19.”

RBSL will be working together with subcontractors from all over Britain, giving an economic boost to their various locales. Work will be directed from the RBSL factory in Telford, with technical support from the company’s heavy armour specialists in Telford and at the RBSL facility in Washington near Newcastle in the northeast of England.

The modernization programme will maintain existing high-grade industrial jobs in Britain and create numerous new ones. In particular at RBSL, the Challenger programme will maintain some 200 member of staff, including 130 highly skilled engineers and 70 technicians. Furthermore, during the next five years, RBSL will offer employment and training opportunities to more than 60 trainees. Moreover, in the British supply chain some 450 jobs will be maintained or newly created.

The programme secures the UK’s national capabilities base in terms of defence technology and engineering expertise and offers the prospect of new product developments and further export opportunities.

Challenger 3
The new vehicle will be armed with the latest 120mm high-pressure L55 smoothbore gun, which fires subcalibre KE projectiles and programmable multipurpose ammunition. Delivering enhanced accuracy and penetrating power, the gun system features state-of-the-art fire control technology.

A new turret structure including improved survivability systems assures maximum crew protection. The main optical sights improves the target acquisition and tracking capability of both the commander and gunner.

Moreover, thanks to the new physical, electronic and electrical architectures, this solution provides additionally significant growth potentials for the next decades.

New Scopes Offer DZ22 Reticles and Peak Performance for Rimfire Shooters

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – May 5, 2021 – Bushnell®, an industry leader in performance optics, has announced the addition of two new models to its dedicated lineup of rimfire riflescopes. Specifically designed for .22LR rifles, these scopes are ideal for varmint and small game hunting, as well as for plinking and recreational shooting.

The two new riflescopes are available in a 3-9x40mm configuration with DZ22 reticles, with one model featuring an illuminated reticle option. The DZ22 reticle was specifically designed for .22LR rimfire ballistics, with drop points out to 125 yards.  On the illuminated reticle model, the riflescope is standard with an “off” position between each intensity setting, so users do not have to return to zero and lose their preferred intensity. The illuminated reticle also provides shooters with improved visibility in low light environments.

Rimfire shooters will appreciate that both models come equipped with glass enhancements for improved performance. Standard features on both riflescopes include multi-coated surfaces, one-piece tube design and a large 40mm objective for more clarity, improved resolution and a larger exit pupil. Both riflescopes can also be used with the Bushnell Ballistic App. These enhancements allow for faster target acquisition and more accurate shooting.

Capped turrets protect shooters’ windage and elevation settings in the field, while lightweight and waterproof sealed aircraft-grade aluminum construction protects the entire scope from the elements. From the field to the range, the 3-9×40 rimfire riflescopes are IPX7 rated and have been designed to get the most out of rimfire rifle shooting no matter the weather conditions.

MSRP is $149.95 for the 3-9×40 rimfire riflescope with standard DZ22 reticle and $179.95 for the illuminated DZ22 reticle model. For more information about these or other Bushnell products, visit Bushnell.com.
