FN Expands Line of FN 15 Modern Sporting Rifles with the All-New FN 15 Guardian
Thursday, April 13th, 2023This High-Value Carbine Delivers the Quality and Reliability Behind all FN Products
(McLean, VA – April 13, 2023) FN America, LLC is pleased to announce the launch of the FN 15® Guardian™, the newest addition to the company’s modern sporting rifle product line. This carbine is derived from FN’s battle-proven blueprint, delivering FN reliability to all sport shooters and personal protectors who value affordable quality. Chambered in 5.56 and weighing in at 6.6 pounds, the direct-impingement rifle is outfitted with a 15-inch M-LOK® free-floated aluminum handguard and MIL-B-11595 CMV barrel. These premium, FN factory-installed upgrades produce tack-driving accuracy, add customization options, and improve handling.
“High quality and affordability don’t typically go hand-in-hand, but today’s buyer deserves to have the best of both worlds when they’re investing their hard-earned money into a rifle. That’s why we chose to develop the FN 15 Guardian,” said Chris Cole, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for FN America, LLC. “As a leader in barrel manufacturing, FN has some of the most sought-after and high-quality AR-style rifles in the industry. For the release of the FN 15 Guardian, we focused our energy into creating an extremely high-value, reliable carbine that carries the legacy of our manufacturing expertise to new FN customers.”
The FN 15 Guardian is chambered in 5.56x45mm and features a 16-inch button-broached, hybrid-profile barrel with 1:7 twist finished with the classic A2-style flash hider that reduces visible flash during fire. The barrel is machined from 4150 chrome-moly vanadium steel that has been high-pressure tested (HPT), magnetic particle inspected (MPI) and certified, and nitrided to deliver an extremely durable, hardened surface finish that provides corrosion resistance. Paired with the free-floated handguard, accuracy potential is greatly improved, the Guardian is able to shoot sub-minute groups with match-grade factory ammunition to extend target engagement ranges.
The bolt carrier group is machined from 9310 alloy steel that has also been nitrided and HP/MPI tested and certified for enhanced strength and durability, and the gas key has been sealed, torqued and staked. The mid-length gas system and low-profile gas block work seamlessly together to ensure reliable operation, while reducing felt recoil.
The lightweight, 15-inch aluminum handguard attaches to the upper receiver via a robust mounting system that securely fastens to the receiver and enables a fully free floated barrel for enhanced accuracy. The handguard features a continuous top rail and 24 M-LOK slots at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions, providing ample space for mounting sights, optics and other accessories.
“When we created the specification for the FN 15 Guardian, our focus was on perfecting the foundation of the rifle to ensure the high standards for FN quality remained, cutting corners to reduce the purchase price was not an option, our customers expect more from our brand and we have to deliver on that trust.” said Scott Vilardi, Senior Product Manager for Law Enforcement and Commercial Carbines. “When you handle our newest carbine at the gun counter and shoot it on the range, you’ll notice the premium fit and finish stands out at this price tier. We’ve paid special attention to the core components to overdeliver on accuracy potential, ergonomics and fast-handling capability. With the new Guardian, FN customers have a dependable and high-quality carbine that’s ready to perform right out of the box and can be easily customized with most AR-pattern components.”
For a streamlined look and feel, as well as reduced snag points, the slick-sided upper receiver eliminates the forward assist while still featuring a brass deflector and ejection port cover to keep spent brass from ejecting back toward the user as well as dirt and debris from entering the moving parts group of the rifle. Additionally, the upper receiver features a tried-and-true MIL-SPEC charging handle and safety selector lever for ease of operation.
The lower receiver is machined from a 7075-aluminum forging that has been hard coat anodized for premium surface finish and durability. The carbine is complete with a single-stage MIL-SPEC trigger that ranges from 4.75 – 7.5 pounds along with FN’s custom-designed 30-round magazine and furniture, developed for improved ergonomics and handling.
The custom furniture package, also offered as individual accessories, include the 30-round magazine with in-mold stippled grip texture, polymer matrix construction and anti-tilt follower. A six-position glass-filled polymer stock has three sling attachment points and an anti-snag latch for a tight lockup to the buffer tube, eliminating rattle. The pistol grip is molded with the same durable, polymer matrix material, an optimal 19.5-degree grip angle and in-mold stippled texture to improve control and handling.
The FN 15 Guardian has a suggested retail price of $999.00 and ships with one 30-round magazine packaged in a unique branded cardboard box with owner’s manual. In addition to the Guardian, the FN 15 series of modern sporting rifles include the FN 15 TAC3 and DMR3, along with a complete line of accessories like upper and lower receivers, barrels, furniture and magazines.
The FN 15 Guardian will be on display at the FN Booth (Booth 5450) at the 152nd NRA Annual Meetings. The convention, hosted at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, will take place April 14-16, 2023. 82nd Airborne Division Hosts Inaugural Innovation Drop Zone Competition
Thursday, April 13th, 2023FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The 82nd Airborne Division hosted its inaugural Innovation Drop Zone competition, March 29, 2023, at the Airborne Innovation Lab at Fort Bragg. The Innovation Drop Zone is the culmination of an ongoing collaboration and partnership between the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command and the 82nd Airborne Division.
The event featured six groundbreaking projects developed into viable products over a six-month period. Each finalist team in the Innovation Drop Zone competition presented a unique problem statement, innovation solution and prototype created through this innovative partnership.
“I expect guns and leaders to the front in order to apply pressure to relieve friction and that’s exactly what our paratroopers are going to do today,” said Maj. Gen. Christopher LaNeve, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division.
Panel members included Maj. Gen. Christopher LaNeve, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division; Command Sgt. Maj. Randolph Delapena, command sergeant major of the 82nd Airborne Division; U.K. Brig. Gen. Neil Den-McKay, deputy to the commanding general of plans for the 82nd Airborne Division; Mr. Zeke Topolosky, chief of the Technology Transition Office at the Combat Capabilities Command Army Research Laboratory; Dr. Ronald Reago Jr., director of the C5ISR Center’s Research and Technology Integration Directorate; Dr. Anne Marie Petrock, senior research scientist for Warheads Technology in the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Armaments Center; and Mrs. Meridith Fonseca, director of research and development at the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Force Modernization Center.
The winners of this competition are 1st Lt. Christopher Bruce and Spc. Dimitry Boylan of Delta Company, 2-504 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team. They created the flip down keypad display unit holder, which is an attachment that provides an efficient way to secure the end user device while allowing the user to operate it with one hand.
“Participating in this competition was an incredibly rewarding and humbling experience,” said Bruce. “While developing our project, we realized our product could solve a problem the entire division was facing. We hope our experience shows paratroopers that they can make a positive impact on the division and create innovative solutions with the resources available to them.”
The team received an Army Commendation Medal, a four-day pass, attendance to a school of choice within each paratrooper’s MOS and a $500 team cash prize along with the first 82nd Airborne Division Innovation Cup for 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
The competition is part of the division’s transformation efforts that work to accomplish three tasks:
Command-directed “you will go figure this out” problem solving;
Modernizing by integrating and helping to create informed requirements with developmental partners; and
Facilitating a paratrooper raising their hand and stating, “I have this problem, I want to solve it for all paratroopers.”
This is taking care of our piece of the Army by providing the paratrooper the opportunities, facilities and skills necessary to develop tangible and actionable solutions to the contemporary problems faced on the drop zone.
“Today is a historic day in the division,” Maj. Gen. LaNeve stated. “Inside this division we are trying to transform as fast as possible; based off lessons learned from Ukraine, lessons learned over the last 20 years, and taking a look forward as best as we can to train how we will fight.”
The next Innovation Drop Zone will be held Sept. 6, 2023. For more information about the 82nd Airborne Division Innovation Drop Zone or the Airborne Innovation Lab check out the Airborne Innovation Lab website.

Speer Ammunition Will Showcase New Products at the 2023 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits
Wednesday, April 12th, 2023LEWISTON, Idaho – April 10, 2023 – Speer Ammunition will show new products at the 2023 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits, held at the Indiana Convention Center, on April 14-16, 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Attendees are encouraged to visit booth 5355 to see all of Federal’s new products for 2023, which includes the new Speer Gold Dot Carbine.
“With the popularity of PCC and the continuing high pace of new 9mm carbine introductions in market, we thought it would be worth looking into what was possible for optimizing a defensive load,” said Speer’s Centerfire Handgun Product Line Manager, Chris Laack. “We found in evaluating a huge selection of our existing designs, as well as others available in market, certain bullet technologies and design features stood out in performance through carbines.”
New Speer Gold Dot Carbine produces ideal velocities through carbine-length barrels and cycles flawlessly. The G2-style, elastomer-filled bullet nose is tuned to produce extremely effective penetration and expansion through common barriers. It is available in one 135 grain 9mm Luger load.
“While it is impossible to cover every carbine and magazine combination, we optimized function for as many as possible. We did a deep dive on accuracy, velocity, and terminal performance through different barrel lengths. The goal was to have a bullet that provided enhanced accuracy and terminal performance from a carbine at slightly longer distances—out to one hundred yards—but also worked well up close,” continued Laack. “Knowing that people would also likely have a 9mm handgun, and it being common for carbines to share magazines with these handguns, we also made sure performance could be relied on through full size handguns. The final product is a hybrid of different Speer Gold Dot technologies that is really going to work great for people looking to have a 9mm carbine for personal defense.”
Speer Gold Dot has set an industry benchmark for both self-defense and duty use, earning the trust of consumers and law enforcement world-wide. Speer ammunition can be found at dealers nationwide. For more information on all products from Speer or to shop online, visit www.speer.com.
