Ambush

Inspired by Sage Dynamics’ Vital Anatomy Targets, Ivan of Kit Badger created his Profile Anatomy Targets AKA Ambush Targets. Available in head and torso, both side and front profile, the targets are designed to be printed off on standard printer paper. The targets were created with liberal use of blue, pink, and light grey to reduce ink impact, and feature a bold silhouette so they can be read well at a distance.

Gunfighter Moment – Ken Hackathorn

NRA Show Review:

The 2017 NRA Show in Atlanta was a joy to behold. Unlike SHOT, the folks walking the Show floor are the end users, the real deal ‘gun culture’. Unlike the SHOT Show which is oriented towards the dealer/distributors of firearms and related hunting gear, the NRA Show is all about show and tell for the members of the National Rifle Association. This year was of interest for a number of reasons. First the election of Donald Trump has calmed the nerves of the gun owning public. As clueless as the left is about why they lost, make no mistake the five million member strong NRA was a positive factor in the fact that Trump won. For the left to attack firearms ownership and still expect it to ring true for most of the heartland is just plain stupid. The anti-Second Amendment attitude does not sell in the states between the Socialist North East and the Left Coast.

A look at the folks walking the floor was quite educational. First, the bulk of people present were males over the age of fifty. However, more than any other NRA show that I have attended in my lifetime females were in noticeable attendance. Not just the wife tagging along with their hubby, but single and even groups of women, active in the shooting/gun culture. Trust me when I tell you that the CCW movement in the USA has had a profound impact on women. Realizing that with equality comes the responsibility to protect themselves; days of expecting a man to protect them is over. Life is about change, and we have little choice sometimes in the direction our lives must flow.

The second demographic that was very noticeable was the presence of people of color. The NRA has always been a strong supporter of equal rights; even back in the day when civil rights was not always popular especially with the Democratic Party. It was impressive to see both women and blacks asking intelligent questions about firearms and their use. I will wager that during the three days of the NRA Show more people were armed in that building than anywhere else in the USA. And, these folks packing heat all were carrying loaded firearms. In the course of the three days, not one loud noise was heard. Despite the complaints of the ‘anti gun crowd’, it was proof that people can be not only safe but responsible with concealed sidearms.

As a product ambassador for Colt Firearms, I was constantly having people coming up to me in the booth and asking questions about their guns, and they tended to all be loaded. Another thing that struck me was that if you took all the AR-15 (MSR’s for the gun culture political correct) and related accessories out of the show, the show would be less than half the size that it was. The reality is that nearly half of the gun culture has embraced the AR platform firearm. I do know some folks that do not own AR-15 style firearms, but damn few. When I moved to the mountain West, I knew that hunting rifles and handguns would be common, what surprised me was that nearly everyone owns an AR. Often more than one. The other thing that came to light was not a surprise at all: Mr. Obama was the best firearms salesman in history. Sales of the ‘black rifles’ has slowed to a trickle after the election. Nearly everyone in the retail end of the gun business will tell you sales have nearly come to a halt. Ammo demand has also slowed dramatically, prices are finally becoming more reasonable. Handgun sales continue to be solid, again directly related to the CCW market. New introductions of firearms at the NRA is becoming more common as much of the industry has tired of the strangle hold the NSSF has on the industry via the SHOT SHOW. Cost of the SHOT Show soars every year, and most vendors are tiring of the process.

This years NRA show introduction of pistols like the Beretta APX, FNH 509, H&K VP9SK, or Springfield Armory XD-E, and you can see the demand for quality handguns remains strong. The XD-E is directly oriented towards an small, flat, single stack 9X19mm pistol that is ideal for the AIWB crowd. If you plan on shoving your CCW sidearm into an inside the waist ban holster that is pointed at your balls, the XD-E a great choice. The gun that was my pick at the NRA Show was Wilson Combat’s new X9 pistol. What most folks want in a CCW sidearm is a 15 shot 9X19mm pistol the size and weight of a Clock 19, but with the controls, trigger, sights and accuracy of a 1911. The Wilson Combat EDC-X9 is just that, beautifully made of the best materials, a pride to own, but with a price tag more in tune with the Rolex crowd, not the Timex variety.

Overall, the flavor of the NRA show and the ‘gun culture’ was somewhat laid back, in tune with the change of politics in the USA. It seems that when a Republican takes the oval office, gun sales slow; put a Democrat in office and gun sales soar. There are some good deals in guns, ammo, and accessories to be hand in the coming months, hide and watch.

Nordic Components Introduces Revolutionary AR-15 Suppressor Shield Handguard System

Saturday, May 13th, 2017

Nordic Components NCT4

Waconia, Minnesota – Nordic Components announces the NCT4, an entirely new handguard system for short-barreled, suppressed AR-15s. This patent-pending design allows users to extend the length of their handguard when using a suppressor.

The NCT4 comes in two lengths, with either a 6.7″ or 9.5″ handguard to give maximum coverage on 7.5″ or 10.5/11.5″ barrels. The removable shield provides over 6″ of suppressor coverage and additional rail space. Both sections are fully M-LOK compatible and feature a seamless continuous top rail. Suppressor shield mounting is toolless, requiring only the push of a button to unlock the shield.

Fully compatible with standard AR15-pattern upper receivers and able to accommodate most suppressors, the NCT4 is the ultimate in protection, modularity, and mission-specificity for the suppressed short-barreled AR rifle.

“The current trend is for long handguards on AR-15 rifles, generally out to the end of the barrel. This allows more rail space and better mounting locations for accessories. Short-barreled rifles (SBRs) and AR pistols give up this option. However, Nordic Components set out to add a handguard extension when running SBR/Pistol AR-15s suppressed. The result is the NCT4 Suppressor Shield,” said Casey Knutson, Vice President at Nordic Components.

Nordic Components is currently taking pre-orders for summer delivery at NordicComp.com.

SPARTANAT – Gear Made in Israel – Agilite. “Our experiences come from the battlefield“

Thursday, May 11th, 2017

The Israeli army is considered one of the best in the world. No wonder, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) must defend a country that is surrounded by enemies in the truest sense of the word. At the same time, Israel has a creative defense industry. In the gear sector, AGILITE is one of the most outstanding companies. We talked with Eric, who is the international salesman for Agilite and was a member of the maritime SOF unit Shayatet 13, about the “Israeli way of gear”.

Agilite1

SPARTANAT: Eric, where does Agilite come from and when did you start it?

AGILITE: Agilite is an Israeli company that uses experience from IDF units to make clever and more creative solutions to make tactical gear more ergonomic. It was founded in 2006 in Tel Aviv, Israel and is a supplier to both the Israel Defense Forces and Forces worldwide.

Agilite2

SPARTANAT: IDF is an army with a lot of experiences. Is there a specific Israeli way of gear?

AGILITE: Yes, The IDF was founded under fire and often had to get by with whatever bad gear they could get hold of and just make it work. Right from the start, adapting the gear to make it work better was a part of the military culture. Soldiers had to get creative to make their equipment work well enough because being too heavy or not being able to move fast enough could cost you your life.
SF units and even regular infantry battalions all set up their own in-house gear studios to adapt or design their equipment from scratch to make it work well. They say “Necessity is the mother of invention” and when there’s a direct link between soldiers coming back from nightly missions and gear designers within their units gear can be refined and refined until it’s optimal for combat. This lead to a very different gear culture to other countries.

Agilite was founded to take this clever, creative, experience-based approach to gear design and combine it with professional manufacturing and to take it worldwide to other allied forces who can benefit from this mindset and gear that works with the body, not against it.

It’s gear ideas and experience going from the battlefield to the manufacturer, not the other way around like in many places.
As time goes on, weapons, enemy tactics and types of threats change but our soldiers’ bodies remain constant so gear has to adapt to keep operators light on their feet and agile.

Agilite3

SPARTANAT: What’s your favorite Agilite product?

AGILITE: My favorite Agilite product is the Axis knee pad, a product that fixed the IDF’s problem of knee pads that fall down. Axis are now the standard issue knee pad for the entire Israeli military and they are outstanding. Every operator knows what it’s like to have to pull your knee pads up from your ankles non-stop and with Axis you don’t have to do that. You put them on and forget about them. They are also great because they are very well priced to be relevant to all soldiers not just SF which is rare.

Personally I also love them because they grip wet surfaces, do not slip on boats and also don’t absorb water. which is important in naval operations. Some people are bothered by their physical appearance but anyone who tries them is instantly hooked.

AgiliteKatalog

SPARTANAT: Where is Agilite also in use beside Israel?

AGILITE: Agilite equipment is in use in over thirty countries and in some of the world’s most elite special forces units. Many top tier units operate in Middle Eastern combat terrain and climates very similar to ours and so our gear is very well received. We also do a lot of custom gear that is unit-specific but obviously not all of this is for public knowledge.

Taurus USA Introduced The T4SA Rifle at NRAAM

Monday, May 8th, 2017

Taurus USA introduced its new AR-style rifle at NRAAM called the T4SA. It seems an odd time to release an AR, considering the current market glut.

IMG_1207

However, they’ve treated the weapon’s critical components with Melonite and displayed a rifle that had fired over 6,500 rounds with no lubricant.

Additionally, they are offering variants featuring Jungle Green and Sand Cerakote.

Below is their press release.

Based on the iconic M4 platform, the Taurus T4SA is a lightweight, gas-impingement 5.56 mm semi-automatic carbine that was engineered and manufactured entirely in the United States.

Features include a forged upper receiver 1913 rail that includes “T” Mark reference points for convenient mounting and reattaching of accessories. It comes standard with a lightweight, low-profile KeyMod or M-LOK aluminum handguard.

Additionally, the Taurus T4SA utilizes an M16-style bolt carrier, which reduces the recoil pulse during firing. The barrel is chambered in 5.56 NATO and fires both 5.56 and .223 Rem. ammunition. The 1:7″ twist, chromoly barrel utilizes the Melonite process on all interior and exterior surface areas, rendering it corrosion resistant and easy to clean.

The T4SA has a dual pinned Melonite low-profile gas block that replaces standard fixed front sight post gas blocks—reducing overall weight and allowing handguards to extend unimpeded past the gas block.

The forged lower receiver is equipped with a Magpul grip with internal storage and a Magpul oversized trigger guard and all fire control parts are manufactured to MIL-SPEC standards. It also includes a MIL-SPEC buffer tube, recoil spring, H2 buffer and a staked castle nut.

The T4SA also features a lightweight, six-position Magpul CTR buttstock with a no-snag triangle shape. The buttstock comes standard with right and left side Quick Disconnect (QD) attachment points as well as slots for use with standard slings and/or sling cords. It will accommodate most major sling designs and features a shock-absorbing buttstock pad to reduce felt recoil and provide a non-slip surface for positive contact between the carbine and operator.
