Federal Premium Will Launch 25 New Products at the 2018 SHOT Show

ANOKA, Minnesota – January 9, 2018 – Federal Premium will launch more than two dozen new products within several lines during the 2018 SHOT Show (Booth No. 14551), January 23-26 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Edge TLR- Three product line additions: 155-grain 7mm Rem. Magnum, 140-grain 270 Win. and 140-grain 270 WSM.

Gold Medal Sierra MatchKing 224 Valkyrie: This 90-grain match bullet is loaded in the all-new 224 Valkyrie long-range cartridge and offers supersonic velocities past 1,300 yards.

Fusion MSR 224 Valkyrie: This 90-grain 224 cal. hunting bullet has been loaded in the all-new 224 Valkyrie long-range cartridge.

American Eagle Rifle: Three product line additions, including 224 Valkyrie 75-grain TMJ, 223 Rem. 75-grain FMJ and 6.5 Creedmoor 120-grain BTHP.

Power-Shok Copper 300 Blackout: This 120-grain hunting load features an accurate, all-copper, hollow-point bullet and Catalyst lead-free primer.

Gold Medal Grand Paper: Seven classic paper hull 12-gauge loads utilizing SoftCell wad technology, the PrimerLock head and dense lead shot.

Grand Slam: A line of 10 all-new copper-plated lead turkey loads with FLITECONTROL FLEX wad for use with all chokes.

Super Vel Ammunition Forms Strategic Alliance With Cor-Bon Ammunition Founder

Peter Pi Sr., the founder of Cor-Bon Ammunition, having sold his company, has formed a strategic alliance with Super Vel Ammunition to grow Super Vel’s sales and assist with new product designs as Super Vel’s director of business development.

“Peter Pi is highly regarded for his many innovations at Cor-Bon and Glaser Ammunition, including his patented bullet designs and the introduction of such cartridges as the .400 Corbon and .500 S&W Magnum. It has been well said that when Peter Sr. founded Cor-Bon in 1982, he essentially picked up where Lee Jurras, the founder of Super Vel, had left off,” said Super Vel Ammunition president Cameron Hopkins. “It’s more than fitting that Peter Sr. would now lend his extensive expertise to the new Super Vel.”

Super Vel Ammunition was founded by Lee Jurras in 1963, who is credited with the invention of the jacketed hollow point bullet. Super Vel created a whole new genre of “police ammunition” which literally revolutionized defensive handgun ammunition. Jurras left the company in 1975, and Super Vel went out of business shortly thereafter. Hopkins, the former editor of American Handgunner Magazine, resurrected Super Vel Ammunition in 2013. Located in Nevada, the new Super Vel is producing a line of self-defense handgun ammunition that includes several novel and unique loads.

Department of Homeland Security Awards Speer Gold Dot with Contract for up to 120 Million Rounds

LEWISTON, Idaho – December 19, 2017 – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE), recently awarded Speer a major ammunition contract. Starting delivery in 2018, the contract provides for up to 120 million rounds of 124-grain, 9mm Luger Gold Dot Duty ammunition to multiple DHS law enforcement components and other Federal agencies for up to five years.

USSOCOM Seeks MultiCaliber, Advanced Sniper Rifle

US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has released a pre-solicitation for the Advanced Sniper Rifle, a replacment for their currently issued Precision Sniper Rifle. Additionally, SOCOM’s Directorate of Procurement, on behalf of USSOCOM PEO-SW, will be conducting a one-on-one industry day for the ASR on 5-7 December, at NSWC Crane.

The most significant requirement for this bolt action rifle requirment is that the weapon must be capable of firing 7.62 NATO, 300 Norma Mag (seen below) and 338 NM, with calibers swapped by the user.

The government has a Technical Data Package for the two NM cartridges. However, in order to provide a cost efficient option that is more conducive to industry development, the 338NM cartridge will be available with a surrogate OTM (non-AP) projectile by Black Hills Ammunition. While different than the USG’s selected projectile in construction and geometry, this surrogate configuration has been shown to closely replicate the interior and exterior ballistic performance of the USG AP 338NM configuration with the exception of barrel life. The anti-materiel configuration with the actual AP projectile will also be available to eligible parties albeit at significantly longer lead-times and costs.

Another important aspect is that the solicitation is 100% set aside for small business, as ASR has been determined to be a Commercial Off The Shelf item. Interestingly, the government reserves the right to issue more than ome award.

Trom Introduces New .300 Cartridge With 900M Max Effective Range

During last week’s National Association Of Sporting Goods Wholesalers Expo in San Antonio, Trom introduced a new 300 BLK cartridge with an amazing maximum effective range of 900m. You read that right. They claim that their new 300 BLK round has an MER of 900m.

It gets better. Maximum Effective Range is determined by shooting 10 rounds into an E class silhouette target. The distance at which 50% of those rounds hit the target is the MER. When Trom Flight tested their .300 round, all 10 rounds hit the target. What’s more, they assert that the projectile will maintain enough energy to have an effect on the target at that range.
