RMA’s Level III (Model #1078) Hard Armor Plate Garners NIJ Certification

CENTERVILLE, IA – October 17, 2017 – RMA Armament is excited to announce that its 3.3-pound Level III, model #1078 hard armor plate has earned its NIJ .06 Certification mark. With the certification, RMA now boasts three different Level III options on the National Institute of Justice’s certified product list (CPL), joining the 3.0-pound single curve model #1088 and the small-to-extra large multi-curve models #1061-1064 plates.

“Our first and foremost stated goal at RMA is to not only produce the highest quality armor on the market, but also to make it the most affordable for our brothers and sisters serving this country in law enforcement and in the military,” said RMA CEO Blake Waldrop. “And this certification continues to further our efforts toward that end.

“NIJ Certification is an important part of the plate vetting process for all potential customers because there can be a stark difference between NIJ Certified plates and NIJ Compliant plates. Certified plates are of the highest standard due the fact that multiple plates are put through numerous tests prior to ballistic testing. Many times a compliant plate has only been ballistically tested a single time, to the minimum standard, without the other important tests. And in our minds, that’s just not good enough. Because of the certification status, our plates provide peace of mind to the wearer, which allows them the peace of mind to do their job effectively and stay protected during any type of mission.”

In testing at the NIJ certified Oregon Ballistic Laboratory, RMA’s nine Level III (model #1078) plates each defeated six rounds of .308 M80 NATO from 50 feet, registering a minimum back-face signature of just 29.85 mm. For compliance to the NIJ 0101.06 level III standard, a hard armor plate must defeat six 7.62×51 M80 NATO rounds with a BFS of less than 44 mm.

PASGT Helmet and Armor Vest Testing

This circa-1978 US Army photo depicts a Soldier conducting a wear test of the developmental Personal Armor System, Ground Troops Helmet and Armor Vest, as they interact with use of the M202 FLASH system. PASGT was the first American use of Aramid (Kevlar) for an issue ground helmet. The helmet also offered a greater area of protection of the head resulting it briefly being referred to as the “Fritz” helmet due to its similar shape to the WWII German helmet.

As you can see, the Soldier is wearing OG-507 fatigues, although the Helmet features a camouflaged outer layer. The original concept was to just integrate the Camo pattern and forego cloth covers. This concept was abandoned due shine. Additionally, the print could wear off and the cloth cover better protected the Helmet’s Aramid material.

GROM Selects SPITFIRE Plate Carrier from Direct Action

According to information released by the Polish Public Information Bulletin (Biuletyn Informacji Publicznej), in a document entitled “ZP-24/DOiB/2017”, the Polish special missions unit GROM has concluded a tender process and selected the SPITFIRE® Plate Carrier from Direct Action® as its new battle vest.

No further information about the GROM contract is available at the present time, but further information about the SPITFIRE® Plate Carrier can be found on the Direct Action® website at directactiongear.com

DSEI 17 – Revision JTAC Vest

In collaboration with the US Air Force, Revision has been working on a vest for Joint Terminal Attack Vest. In particular, they’re concentrating on a baseline which Airmen can customize, based on individual needs. The base armor vest is a modified Crye Precision AVS and Revision is working on the power and data management. One of example of what you’ll see is a series of apps to control the various components and human interface.

Additionally, Revision ran me through their work on the next generation of headborne systems through the introduction of Sensys. Look for additional details soon.
