CPI 1

Thin and lightweight, MTek’s Critical Protection Inserts are designed to be worn in any standard armor vest, offering NIJ Level IIIA protection. The CPI is encapsulated in a polyurea coating, which makes them waterproof, durable, floatable, and easy to clean. Most impressively, when worn in conjunction with NIJ Level IIA or IIIA soft armor, the CPI is capable of offering limited rifle round protection, stopping both 7.62×39 lead-core FMJ and 55gr M193 5.56.

CPI 2

Available in the following sizes: 5×7, 5×8, 6×8, 6×9, 7×9, 7×10, 8×10, and 10×12. Made in the USA.

FirstSpear Friday Focus – Siege-R Optimized

Friday, July 18th, 2014

Last week, we showed you FirstSpear’s Catalog No 7 for Summer 2014. One of the new items is a revamped version of the Siege-R. This optimized model (Siege-RO) was developed after collecting and analyzing three years worth of user feedback.

They’ve done several things to the design that improve its versatility and performance. For instance, they moved the plate pocket to the inside which offers a more streamlined exterior and allows the use of more plate sizes and shapes.

FS Siege R Enhanced

Additionally, the standard shoulder pads are now padded and fully adjustable, including two sets of Tubes in the front and back to support the enhanced MASS Shoulder System. The front and back plate pockets are now internal to the vest, making the system slimmer and better suited for confined and tubular spaces. The internal cummerbunbd is now removable for those who do not wish to use it all the time, and the exterior cummerbund is now enhanced in the back with the new FS High Performance Elastic Webbing. Finally, their quick drying airflow mesh is now utilized on the interior to reduce overall weight and shed water more quickly.

Available in Black, Coyote, Ranger Green and MultiCam sizes Small – Xlarge.

Friday, June 27th, 2014

ExecPro Armored Bag

San Tan Gear has developed a computer bag with 2 concealed NIJ Level IIIA ballistic insert panels. The bag has a built-in hidden ambidextrous holster, two rear straps for use as a shield, and a flashing strobe for signaling. A tab strap under the carrying handle drops the rear ballistic panel, providing 270 square inches of shielding. The inserts have a 2″ overlap so bullets and fragments won’t pass through them. The ExecPro was designed for:

– Students or employees working in a firearm restricted area
– Judges, attorneys, bankers, and other high profile people
– Plain-Clothes Law Enforcement Officers
– Personal Security Details
– Everyday people who realize violence can happen anywhere

Blade Show 2014 – Artificum Solis

Saturday, June 7th, 2014

In addition to a growing line of knives, Veteran-owned Artificum Solis showed me a rather interesting take on the morale patch.

20140606-171849.jpg

The large round morale patch on Austin McGlaun’s badge is made from 15N20 tool steel. Those are used for industrial band saw blades and they’ve shot these armored morale patches with 9mm, .38, .40, .44, .45 and 12 ga 00. Eventually, they will able to penetrate it with a .460 magnum Hornady Critical Defense round but that beast went through an iron skillet and a cinder block.

Naturally, these aren’t really meant as actual armor but they do carry one heck of a story. In addition to this example, they’ve also created custom badges for other companies. Below, you can see the level of detail they can produce.

Bodyguard Blanket

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

The Bodyguard Blanket is a bullet resistant body cover designed to protect from firearms and inclement weather including tornadoes. The blanket consists of two ballistic materials which provide a level of protection consistent with Level IIIa NIJ standard. It can either be wrapped around or strapped onto a person to offer protection.

It’s an interesting concept, but it’s also $1000 a unit. They also claim that children can interlock like Romans interlocked shields to repel attacks.

FirstSpear Friday Focus – Retro-Fit Cummerbund Kit

Friday, May 30th, 2014

There are lots of folks out there who would like to integrate FirstSpear’s Tubes and 6/12 technology into their existing armor carriers. In this week’s Friday Focus we’ll show you a product that does just that; the Retro-Fit Cummerbund Kit.

FS Cummerbund Retrofit Kit - mounted

The 6/12 & TUBES Retro-Fit Kit is compatible with carriers that utilizes a traditional hook & loop flap system and rear MOLLE or cummerbund pass-through channel. The Cummerbund also accepts Soft Armor Inserts and 6×6 Hard Plates. Once in place, you don/doff the vest via the Tubes attachment to either side of the cummerbund. There is also a certain amount of size adjustment to the rear via the elastic cord. In addition to Tubes, you also get 6/12 which is not only backwards compatible with PALS but also accepts FirstSpear’s full line of 6/12 pouches.

Offered in Small/Medium or Large/Extra Large, in Black, Coyote, Khaki, Ranger Green and MultiCam.

FirstSpear is offering Free Domestic Ground + APO/FPO Shipping on your entire cart with purchase of retro-fit cummerbund.

In case you wondered what a typical day for the Diabolical Ronnie Fowlkes is like, check out this video that also happens to demonstrate just how tough the Tubes technology really is.

Tactical Revolution’s AJAX Armor System Testing Video

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014

During last week’s SOFIC we mentioned the new AJAX Armor System from Tactical Revolution for use with crew served weapons in fixed positions that are not equipped with gun shields.

Now, we’d like to share the video of ballistic testing of the system so you can see that it works and why it has such an elaborate mounting system. In this high speed camera footage, you’ll notice how the plate returns to its proper position after mitigating the energy of the projectile strike.
