Heritage Creative Photos-18

Stoney Creek, ON – January 30, 2014 – With all the changes happening at Baffin, it is nice to see that some things remain the same. Based on the original mold from 1997, Baffin is proud to launch the boot that started it all – The Heritage.

With a layering structure inspired by the Inuit, Baffin developed technologies to modernize the traditional approach. “From the five layer Inuit boot, Baffin’s eight layer system came to fruition and remains at the core of our equity today,” says Brand Manager, Mark Hubner. “It’s important to remember and celebrate our roots, and what better way to do so then recreating the boot that sparked our success in the cold weather industry.”

Fully assembled at Baffin’s Stoney Creek headquarters, this limited edition boot features leathers sourced from Quebec, natural beaver trim from the West Coast, and bases molded right in their head office warehouse attachment, this limited edition boot is the definition of a true Canadian product! President Paul Hubner says that, “Part of Baffin’s heritage is in this box. Without this technology, we wouldn’t be the company we are today, which is why we want to celebrate our success and manufacture a purely Canadian boot.”

In addition to a number of brand new brand developments, Baffin launched The Heritage Boot at the Outdoor Retailer Tradeshow and Expo in Salt Lake City January 2014.

OR – 5.10

20140123-230004.jpg

The number approach shoe gets better. 5.10 is launching an Updated Guide Tennie in February. It features deeper, wider lugs and a stiffer midsole. It’s now even better for climbing but still a hiker and now, it’s also available in a mid-top height.

20140123-230052.jpg

5.10 has also just made a major upgrade the Camp 4. Although it’s lighter than the older model, it features a completely new outsole. Some of the weightless is due to a reduction in foam meaning it will also dry faster. Like the Guide Tennie, the Camp 4 is now also offered in a mid-top height.

Finally, the popular Water Tennie continues to be a dominant watershoe. And, I believe it’s the only trade compliant water shoe on the market. And I know it’s the only one with sticky rubber.

OR – Sorel Launches New XT Collection

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014

If you’ve been issued Sorel cold weather boots, it’s quite likely the -40 Deg F Conquest which is a class IC Sorel design and great for active outdoor use. The British Tan color has been around for quite awhile but the new Boulder on the Left caught my eye with its Grey hue.

20140123-092115.jpg

Now, Sorel has unveiled the XT line for fall 2014. It incorporates 6 boots for a variety of application. There are separate boots for cold-wet and cold-dry applications. They range in capability from -40 Deg F to an amazing -100 Deg F. For me the ultimate is the Intrepid Explorer with a 12mm EVA midsole in addition to a removable 15mm Sorel Meltdown midsole.

SHOT Show – Under Armour

Friday, January 17th, 2014

Under Armour has completely resigned the Valsetz boot from top to bottom and call it the Valsetz RTS (Redesigned Tactical Shoe).

The tread has been changed and the instep has been upgraded for Fast rope operations. The replaced the stitching in the upper with a welded reinforcement. Additionally, the entire shoe is DWR coated. The top incorporates the Clutch Fit technology from their football shoes. This fit works much like taped ankles without the additional weight.

20140117-094443.jpg

All told, it’s 2 ounces lighter than the precious model. The Valsetz will continue to be available for some time, but the RTS models are coming July 2014 from ww.underarmour.com in Tan, Black and Coyote.
