Customized Polaris Machines Used to Raise Funds for Police, Fire and Military Charities; Voting Process Provides Consumers the Chance to Win the Polaris Machine of Their Choice

Minneapolis (Nov. 25, 2019) – Polaris Off Road, the world leader in powersports and off-road innovation, today announced United We Ride – a partnership and fundraising effort with the Diesel Brothers that honors our nation’s military, police and fire departments. The program is highlighted by a Diesel Brothers’ customized series of recently launched Polaris machines. Each machine has been custom-made to honor a specific branch of American “first responders” – the RZR PRO XP Ultimate for policemen and policewomen, the RANGER CREW XP 1000 for firemen and firewomen, and the GENERAL XP 4 1000 for members of the U.S. military.

The program is powered by a national voting process where consumers vote for their favorite build, and voting totals determine the donation amount from Polaris to each of the program’s three charity beneficiaries – $25,000 to first place, $15,000 to second and $10,000 to third place. By casting their vote, consumers are automatically entered for the chance to win an all-new RANGER CREW XP 1000 with Ride Command, RZR PRO XP Ultimate or a GENERAL XP 4 1000 DELUXE.

“We are forever grateful for the commitment and sacrifice made by members of our military and first responders, and we are proud to continue our 15-year tradition of providing vehicles for their duties and their well-deserved free time,” said Kyle Duea, vice president of Off-Road Vehicle Marketing, Polaris. “Partnering with the Diesel Brothers to customize our machines and drive awareness of these charities is merely one way we can show our appreciation, while honoring their daily efforts to protect us, our communities and our freedom.

The United We Ride program will be donating to the following charities:

·        Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) – Provides resources to support the families and co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty as they cope with the tragic loss and work to rebuild their lives.

·        The Gary Sinise First Responders Foundation – Provides critical funding for emergency relief, training, and essential equipment to ensure our heroic firefighters have the resources they need.

·        Your Grateful Nation – Provides support, guidance and resources to transition special operations veterans into their next successful career.

“The whole Diesel Brothers’ family has a deep respect for those who selflessly protect, serve and care for this great country,” said Dave Sparks, Diesel Sellerz. “That’s why we jumped at the opportunity to work with our most valued industry partners at Polaris to build the unique UTVs intended to honor the hard-working men and women of the U.S. military, law enforcement, and first responders. This is just a small token of our gratitude for their hard work and dedicated service.”

2020 Hot Shots Calendar Is Now Available

Wednesday, November 13th, 2019

This is it! The final Hot Shots calendar is now available. It’s been a great run and we here at SSD have been honored to be a part of such a great fundraising program for UK and US wounded, but everything must come to an end. This is your last year to get in on the calendar.

We’d like share some remarks from Hot Shots Director, Lord Mike Newman.

Welcome to this, the final installment of the now famous Hot Shots Calendar.

When we set out back in 2008 we wanted to try and create something different with the intention to (complete a year for each month of the calendar. Our aim was simply raise as much money for injured servicemen and women as we could during that time, however long it ended up being,

We’re proud to say that last year saw us hit that milestone of twelve years in publication along with 10’s of thousands of dollars/pounds donated to various wounded veteran charities.

With our mission complete, it’s our pleasure to bring you the final instalment as a ‘Greatest Hits’ mash up of all our proudest moments.

We’ve had many themes over the years and we fully understand it’s all subjective, so with that in mind, we will be opening up the whole archive in 2020 for you to purchase in print form or download so you can enjoy and keep forever.

We wanted to make sure we finished at the top of our game and we feel this is the best way for us to bow out…

As a group of industry friends, rest assured we have some future ideas for fundraising and will all continue to make sure that the aim of these projects stays on target and lives on in new pursuits.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors and friends over the last 12 years, as well as the many models, crew and photographers that have helped us pull this together in such a professional and tireless way!

Hopefully, (it is our sincere hope that) the money we’ve raised and morale we have generated along the way have made a difference!

That’s all for now, enjoy and watch this space!

Mike Newman
Director

Spirit of Blue Awards Tourniquet Grant to Glendale Heights Police Department

Friday, November 8th, 2019

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – November 5, 2019 – The Spirit of Blue Foundation announced that it has awarded a Safety Equipment Grant to the Glendale Heights Police Department (GHPD) to outfit their entire force of officers with lifesaving tourniquets inside of rugged duty belt cases.  The GHPD uniform policy was amended to include mandatory wear of the North American Rescue Gen7 C-A-T Tourniquet inside of an Eleven 10 RIGID TQ Case with Basketweave finish as part of its official uniform.  The grant was funded in large part by a strategic partnership with Law Enforcement United, along with contributions from North American Rescue and Eleven 10, and is valued at $3,818.38.

“Our officers are now equipped to render life-saving aid to themselves, fellow officers and members of our community,” said Chief Douglas R. Flint of the Glendale Heights Police Department.  “Tourniquets are an essential piece of equipment that every officer should have access to on their duty belts.”

Spirit of Blue Co-Founder and Board Member Todd Parola (center left) presented Glendale Heights Police Chief Douglas Flint (center right) with the safety equipment grant at a recent ceremony.  All 54 officers of the department will now carry a tourniquet as part of their uniform.

Tourniquets have proven to be incredibly effective in stemming blood flow to an injured extremity, and their use has vastly improved the survivability of soldiers in combat over the last two decades.  That learning overseas is now being leveraged to save injured law enforcement officers here at home.  When only precious minutes exist to treat such an injury, tourniquets are able to be applied individually or on a fellow officer to prevent excessive blood loss until that individual can be placed into medical care.  As a secondary benefit, officers who carry a tourniquet are also able to use them to rescue a member of the community who may have experienced a similar type of injury.  Spirit of Blue Foundation will replace any tourniquet that is used in the line of duty for the life of the tourniquet so that no officer who uses their tourniquet will have to go without one in the future.

To date, Spirit of Blue has granted over 3,300 tourniquets nationwide which have resulted in six documented saves – 5 with members of the community and one officers save which came in June of 2019.

“We are honored to place these 54 tourniquets into service here in Glendale Heights,” commented Todd Parola, Spirit of Blue co-founder and Board Member, who also lives in the Chicagoland area.  “We are excited that these officers are now safer, and that they could end up saving a life as a result.”

The lead sponsor for the grant was Law Enforcement United (LEU), who has supported Spirit of Blue with over $280,000 in safety grant funding since 2015.  LEU is an organization of active and retired police officers who honor fallen officers and raise funds to assist charitable organizations that serve the law enforcement community.  Each year LEU members ride 250 miles or more into Washington, DC to participate in National Police Week events and carry flags in honor of fallen officers which are given to the surviving family members upon their arrival.  Since its founding in 2009, LEU has raised over $6,750,000 for law enforcement causes.  Other sponsors included North American Rescue and Eleven 10 who offered special pricing on the equipment.

Statistics released by the Officer Down Memorial Page show that 102 law enforcement officers have lost their lives in 2019.  On average, 150 officers are lost in the line of duty each year.  37 of those deaths were firearm related, which so far has been the leading cause of officer deaths this year.  The reality of these statistics, and the increasing number of underfunded law enforcement agencies across the country, fuel the Spirit of Blue safety grant initiative.

The Spirit of Blue Foundation actively encourages the public at large to honor and appreciate law enforcement officers who serve and protect our communities. By supporting the Spirit of Blue Foundation, the public can make an impact in the lives of law enforcement officers every day. Leupold & Stevens, Black Rifle Coffee Company Partner with Twitch Streamers to Raise $72,000 for Boot Campaign

Thursday, November 7th, 2019

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Leupold & Stevens, Inc., and Black Rifle Coffee Company have partnered to donate over $72,000 to the Boot Campaign, a non-profit organization that tirelessly works to support military veterans across the country. The funds were raised in conjunction with a group of personalities on the multimedia streaming platform, Twitch.tv. Popular Twitch personalities Eli_doubletap, Tweak, Klean, Matbest11x, Baddie, KiiNGS, Alex_Zedra, DonutOperator, and Drdemolitionmatt, streamed through the night on Saturday, Nov. 2, applying all crowd-sourced donations directly to the Boot Campaign. Leupold-sponsored product giveaways were a highlight of the special event, which ultimately raised $72,643.30.

“Leupold and Black Rifle Coffee Company conceived of the fundraiser, but it was the strength of community and dedication to the mission that made it as wildly successful as it was,” said Shane Meisel, Director of Marketing for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “The Boot Campaign is one of the most dedicated veteran support programs in the country, and everyone – from the streamers to their fans on Twitch – showed up and backed the cause.”

Founded in 2009, the Boot Campaign has given more than $12 million in financial aid to service members, veterans, and their families. The organization’s programs assist with housing needs, career and education costs, PTSD/TBI treatment, and health and wellness programs. Funds are raised through general donations, corporate sponsorships, and the retail sale of combat boots and branded merchandise.

“Our mission, from the beginning, has been to support health and wellness, restore families, restart careers, reduce suicides, and reinforce communities,” said John Hughes, Board Member and Treasurer of the Boot Campaign. “We couldn’t do what we do for service members and veterans without the support of companies like Leupold and Black Rifle Coffee Company.”

Scientists Find a Direct Link Between Individual’s Immune System and Sensitivity to PTSD; Seeking Finding and Volunteers to Further Research Efforts

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019

October 18, 2019: Huntsville, AL: Little Orange Fish, a 501(c)(3) non-profit committed to furthering community mental health, announced the launch of its Inner Defense Research Initiative, which is a collaborative effort aimed at identifying markers in the immune system that indicate and possibly predict sensitivity to PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). This initiative, a collaboration including iXpressGenes Inc., Paragon Research Corporation, the University of Alabama at Huntsville and individual contributors is based on a breakthrough study reporting a strong correlation between the immune system and stress affliction.  The analysis, which is based on a simple blood draw, might guide clinical approaches to PTSD diagnosis and treatment, possibly bringing a revolutionary solution to a crippling problem for many people.

The Inner Defense Research Initiative focuses on developing the diagnostic screen to inform solutions for prevention and treatment, to provide education and outreach and to influence policy change.

For Dr. Joe Ng, founder, and president of iXpressGenes, this mission is personal.  Having survived the mass shooting at UAH in 2011, this research was born from the struggles and firsthand observations of the carnage- caused traumatic stress.  “In honor of those who did not survive and those who did, but suffer terribly,” Dr. Ng said, “I want to find a path to resiliency. The immune system might be that path.”

Dr. Ng’s company, iXpressGenes,  (iXG) is a synthetic biology company located at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, specializing in solutions based on molecular protein structures. iXG has conducted preliminary studies of T-cell receptor transcriptome sequences that offer an unprecedented analysis of linking an immune repertoire to sensitivity or resilience to PTSD, demonstrating that certain immune conditions are more common in people with PTSD. This knowledge opens up a wealth of preventative measures one can take as well as directed treatment options for long-term health.

“Approaching PTSD from the perspective of the immune system changes everything,” said Peggy Sammon, Director, iXG. “The neural-immune axis brings a new set of tools to those who are seeking solutions for PTSD and other debilitating stress conditions.”

While the preliminary findings are encouraging and provide strong support for the proposed study;  the next step is to expand the size of their participant pool and validate the findings in a bigger study. The goal is to collect immune repertoire data for a thousand or more soldiers and first responders who have been exposed to trauma to help establish a secure and intelligent database for analyses and data mining in the search for predictive markers.  Once the markers have been identified and verified, intervention strategies can be recommended.  The team is seeking funding to perform a larger study.

“There is such promise in the science we’ve seen,” John Schmitt, Iraq war veteran and collaborating microbiologist added, “we have built a powerful team of technical experts and innovators in the field, but we will need the support from the wider community to accelerate this work and really make a difference in lives.”

Special Operations Care Fund (SOC-F) and Tomahawk Charitable Solutions to Support Leader in Neurotherapeutics to Provide Breakthrough Treatment Technology for Special Operations Veterans

Thursday, September 5th, 2019

SAN DIEGO, CA, September 5, 2019 – Special Operations Care Fund (SOC-F), Tomahawk Charitable Solutions (TCS), and Brain Treatment Center San Diego (BTC San Diego) are pleased to announce their collaboration for BTC San Diego to offer an innovative and promising treatment modality for special operations military service members for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Post-traumatic Stress (PTS).

The dynamic collaboration between SOC-F, TCS, and BTC San Diego offers a unique opportunity for service members struggling with symptoms such as lack of focus, chronic sleep disruption, and cognitive fog. Over the next 18 months, this collaboration will facilitate treatment by BTC San Diego of Special Operations Forces (SOF) veterans. SOC-F and TCS will bring valuable resources to support BTC San Diego’s pioneering work with the military community, and they are excited for the transformative opportunities the collaboration will bring to those who served.

Over the past six years, BTC San Diego has used Magnetic EEG/EKG-guided Resonance Therapy (MeRTSM) to help military service members and is conducting clinical trials with the Department of Defense and US Special Operations Command. MeRTSM  is a patented process that uses computational neuroanalytics to build a personalized treatment protocol aimed at restoring each individuals neurological health. This process takes approximately 30 minutes per day over a 4-6 week period. MeRTSM was developed by Wave Neuroscience (Wave Neuro) – a leader in the non-invasive neuromodulation space.

Here is what service members who have completed MeRT at Brain Treatment Center say about the treatment:

SOF, USMC Veteran:

“Within 4 days of being treated, I was sleeping through the night. My anger had subsided significantly, and I was smiling and enjoying things again. I was able to focus and concentrate on information much more efficiently and easily, and did not get lost in conversation as I had prior to coming here. My chronic headaches had ceased, my balance was returning, and my ringing in my ears, (tinnitus) had also ceased.”

SOF, US Navy Veteran:

“Besides offering the most effective treatment I’ve experienced, the BTC and MeRT promise to accelerate results that might take months or years through traditional treatments.  I feel like BTC reintroduced me to the person I can be, and put me back in control.”

SOF, US Army Veteran:

“After my 6th treatment, I slept 8 hours straight, I usually averaged 3-5 hours max. In the morning it felt like a light bulb turned on in my head… clarity of thought that I haven’t experienced in years.”
