07.06.2018, Trzin, Slovenia: While outside operationally or at the range when the sun is shining bright, it is important to keep your eyes and face protected. Boonie hats have become an essential apparel for the Special Forces operator, infantry soldier, law enforcement SWAT team member, as well as military and tactical enthusiasts.

UF PRO®, developer and producer of high quality high-performance tactical clothing for special police and military units worldwide, welcomes Summer 2018 with its brand-new Striker Gen.2 Boonie Hat, designed to protect you against the sun, allow air circulation and break the silhouette and camouflage you with the surroundings.

The new Striker Gen.2 Boonie Hat holds up well to abuse, packs easily and gives great 360-degree sun protection. Made of a lightweight, yet durable 35% Polyester, 65% Cotton Ripstop fabric in Flecktarn; 50% Nylon, 50% Cotton Ripstop in PenCott™ GreenZone and MultiCam®; and 67% Polyester, 33% Cotton Ripstop in Brown Grey, SloCam, it features a Mesh sweatband to create maximum airflow to help you keep a cool head.

To further keep your temperature down as the heat index rises, the UF PRO® Striker Gen.2 Boonie Hat includes two mesh ventilation openings in the front and the back to allow for air circulation. The adjustable chin strap, made of Paracord, provides a secure fit and can be used (the chord goes through the hat’s brim) to adjust the circumference of the hat by the intuitive secure toggle in the back.

UF PRO®’s Striker Gen.2 Boonie Hat features a wide brim that can be moulded so that it fits your head perfectly, allowing you to adjust it as you see fit. The hatband offers two rows of straps with loops for threading pieces of foliage as natural camouflage to further break up the outline of the wearer, helping them blend into their surroundings. These are also constructed of the company’s high-performance Polyester, Cotton Ripstop blend. As there are never enough pockets, UF PRO® integrated an ingenious mesh pocket on the inside of the hat for those very important documents (concealing a thin, flat object like an ID card or plans for your secret mission) and three Velcro pads for attaching ID patches.

The lightweight Striker Gen.2 Boonie Hat is engineered to help you stay cool, comfortable and provides visual concealment, coming in the popular Flecktarn, PenCott™ GreenZone and MultiCam®, and SloCam patterns, as well as in brown grey for those in an urban environment.

This is the ultimate hot environment hat, offering floating brims, mesh venting holes and a Paracord chin strap to prevent chafing. The fit, workmanship, pattern and features are all outstanding.

“By listening to our customers, we came up with this new design, giving them a hat that is easy to wear and breaks up the outline of the wearer’s head, thereby assisting with concealment. The brim also provides a measure of comfort against rain and hot sun,” says Armin Wagner, UF PRO® Head of Product Development.

Boonie hats have become synonymous with the special operations soldier, law enforcement SWAT team and military/tactical enthusiast. The evolution of the boonie over the past few years has arrived at UF PRO®’s new advanced design.

Whether you are a tactical enthusiast, private contractor, or member of a law enforcement or military unit, UF PRO®’s Striker Gen.2 Boonie Hat will keep your noggin cool and camouflaged.

US Navy Testing 2-Piece FR Uniforms

Wednesday, June 6th, 2018

Referred to as the Maritime Heritage Maritime Utility, the US Navy is currently testing 2-piece Flame Resistant garments for wear underway, in lieu of the current Coverall, which is also undergoing an FR makeover.

Testing began 14 May but the concept has been on the drawing board since last year. The Heritage variants replicate traditional sea service uniforms, with a Khaki shirt and pant for Officers and Chiefs and a Blue version for lower enlisted and noncommissioned Sailors.

Interestingly, the Blue version is similar in appearance to the old Dungarees, but one style harkens all the way back to the Dark Blue on Dark Blue of enlisted deck wear, worn up until WWII. Another option, replaces the Dark Blue shirt with a Light Blue, similar to the Chambray shirts worn until the advent of the current Navy Working Uniform.

Below, you can see all three options currently being evaluated.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Navy is considering this working uniform, displayed at the recent CANSEC by developer Logistik Unicorp. Initially it was baggier and based on a prototype ground Combat Uniform. After slimming the garment slightly, they are now working on zipper and button options.

This Canadian uniform is much closer to the Modern 2-Piece garment also being considered by the US Navy which adapts the cut of the Digital Woodland camouflage Navy Working Uniform Type III, to a similar Tan and Dark Blue color scheme of the Heritages Uniform being tested here. It also introduces FR fabrics to protect Sailors from shipboard hazards.

No matter which uniform the Navy eventually adopts, it will be Organizational Clothing, like the currently issued Coverall. Sailors will wear the Black Fleece Jacket or an upcoming FR Fleece Jacket with this uniform.

USMC Awards Sole Source Contracts For Cold Weather Boots And Socks

Saturday, June 2nd, 2018

MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. —

Marines will stay warm during ambient cold weather operations with new boots and socks.

Marine Corps Systems Command intends to award sole source purchase orders for two types of Intense Cold Weather Boots and Intense Cold Weather Socks to improve Marines’ performance in cold weather environments. A total of 2,000 boots and 50,000 pairs of socks will be delivered from four vendors by Sept. 28.

“Based on market research, industry days and events such as Modern Day Marine, we narrowed our decision for the orders down to two companies for cold weather boots and two for socks,” said Todd Towles, program analyst for the Clothing and Equipment Team at MCSC.

There are currently no Marine Corps issue boots designed for use in the -20 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit range. The Temperate Weather Marine Corps Combat Boot was designed for a temperature range between 20 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and the Extreme Cold Weather Vapor Barrier Boot was designed for a range between -65 to -20 degrees Fahrenheit.

(U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. James Treviño)

This effort to acquire the cold weather boots and socks will help MCSC evaluate commercial off-the-shelf solutions and offer the potential to reduce or eliminate the current environmental protection gap, said Towles. The socks will have much higher wool content than the polypropylene wool socks Marines currently use. Additionally, the Clothing and Equipment Team is hopeful the new gear will offer increased water repellency, comfort and insulation in extreme cold weather environments.

MCSC’s Program Manager Infantry Combat Equipment will conduct a field user evaluation December 2018 through March 2019. The team will gather input from Marines as they wear the ICWB and ICWS prototypes at the Mountain Warfare Training Center, Fort McCoy and Norway.

Feedback regarding fit, form and function will be collected along with how well both prototypes of the ICWB and ICWS perform in sub-zero temperatures.

“The Army is conducting evaluations with similar boots and socks, so there is potential to have some consistency with our results and products,” said Lt. Col. Chris Madeline, program manager for ICE. “Marines will keep the prototype boots through the duration of testing. Once data is collected, it will inform future acquisition decisions and allow the Corps to purchase boots and socks that bridge the gap between the existing cold weather boots.”

The Clothing and Equipment Team falls under Program Manager Infantry Combat Equipment at MCSC.

By Kaitlin Kelly, MCSC Office of Public Affairs and Communication | Marine Corps Systems Command

Editor’s Note: The Intense Cold Weather Sock Contract was awarded to FITS Technologies and Ellsworth & Co. The Intense Cold Weather Boots will come from Belleville Boot Co and Dannebrog Boot Co.

CANSEC 18 – Logistik Unicorp Advanced SOF Combat Uniform Prototype

Wednesday, May 30th, 2018

Last year, Canadian Special Operations Forces began their quest for a new Advanced SOF Combat Uniform. Several companies are currently competing for that business.

A467387B-8976-4564-B250-02509721BFB1

At CANSEC, Logistik Unicorp displayed their prototype for that program. It is made from Enhanced NYCO which is no melt, no drip and their own proprietary FR knit for the torso of the shirt. Also seen here is a prototype overwhite ensemble, complete with Pack Cover and handwarmer.

They also incorporated a few pocket innovations. For instance, the flapped upper arm pockets are right at the seam and inset. They feature covered, slotted buttons.

The pants have Knife slot as well as flaps for the front slash pockets as well as thigh cargo pockets.
