American Heritage Shirts from TD & SSD

Friday, May 13th, 2011

For quite some time we have had readers asking us if we were ever going to offer T-shirts with our logo. As you’ve probably surmised by now we are more about substance than symbolism. I spent over 20 years in the military and have a whole drawer full of T-shirts and I get to see the SSD logo every time I open the website. For me, a T-shirt is going to have to be unique.

Three years ago, Mil Spec Monkey designed the the SSD logo for us. It symbolizes the individual warrior with a marriage of the traditional Davinci’s Vitruvian Man representing how art and science combine to outfit the Soldier blended with a 1960s futuristic feel in the form of the Olympic Sports Pictogrammes which allude to the athletic facet of the Warrior. While it holds the rugged individual as its core with a nod to the past and a look to the future, it doesn’t represent everything we hold dear at SSD. After much consideration we thought it would be most appropriate to celebrate America and what she stands for. After all, none of this would be possible without American democracy and access to a free and open market. What better way to illustrate our beliefs than to commemorate some of our Nation’s earliest iconography? And with this notion the concept of the American Heritage series was born.

We went to Tactical Distributor to discuss the idea and their excellent creative team helped us turn our vision into reality. The “Join or Die” woodcut is the first in a series of designs. Two more will follow and if these are as successful as we expect, we will continue with the concept. Each shirt comes in a printed cotton bag. The guys at TD came up with this touch and it immediately resonated with us. It’s kind of old school but that’s the point. The future is going to be tough so we have got to rely on our core beliefs to show us the way.

What we like most about this series is the story behind it. It’s something you can get behind and believe in, no matter where you are from.

Triple Aught Design Unveils Stealth LT

Friday, May 13th, 2011

The new Stealth LT is made from a three layer fabric sandwich that features a four-way stretch abrasion resistant face along with Schoeller’s c_change® membrane. c_change® is a membrane that is designed to respond to temperature changes both inside the jacket and out. When it’s hot or in the presence of body moisture, the pores of the c_change membrane open to channel heat and moisture away from the body. When it’s cold or when body moisture is not present, the membrane’s pores close, retaining heat near your body where you need it. Additionally, both the fabric’s face and tricot backing are treated with Schoeller’s 3XDry® to manage moisture. If all of that wasn’t enough, they have also treated the laminate with Schoeller’s Coldblack® which reflects UV rays to keep you cool while also preventing the garment from fading.

The Stealth LT finds its beginnings in the original Stealth Hoodie first released in 2002. In addition to the great Aero hood design, there are also die cut cuff adjustments and a drawstring hem. The inset chest, sleeve and forearm pockets with laminated zippers also incorporate D-rings to keep your gear secure. Additionally, the Stealth LT is available with two optional Velcro fields on the upper arm. I have known the crew at Triple Aught Design for almost ten years and I can tell you that they listen to their customers. Literally, every bit of customer feedback regarding the Stealth Hoodie design has been addressed here. They have added colors, increased sizing, and offered Velcro as an option rather than standard to the design. Very impressive.

Available in UE Grey, ME Green, and Black in sizes XS – XXXL. To learn more visit www.tripleaughtdesign.com.

Infidel Caps Releases bin Laden T-shirt

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

Infidel Caps has just made their newest shirt available for pre-sale. The “Bin Laden” shows the perfect cocktail mix for the recently-departed terrorist mastermind on the back, while the term Infidel rides on the front, a view our enemies have of us which has easily become a term of endearment. The shirts are available in both black and grey, and come in sizes ranging from small to 2XL. Plus, bin Laden’s head is a martini olive with an AK for a toothpick. How can you not like that?

You can order this shirt, and other fine Infidel products, at infidelcaps.webs.com

Props to Tacticalfanboy.com for the story.

Reversible Rainsuit from Dakota Outerwear

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

As I walked through the Warrior Expo West yesterday I saw an interesting item out of the corner of my eye. Seeing how the USAF just adopted OCP (MultiCam) for Airmen bound for Afghanistan I found this rain jacket to look pretty handy. Originally developed for use when we still issued separate woodland and desert patterns, it reverses for compatibility with either environment but the design went out of favor as the Air Force adopted the Digital Tiger Stripe Pattern. Now that the Air Force once again has two patterns, Dakota Outerwear thought it was time to reintroduce the concept. We agree.

The hood stows in the collar and pockets are accessible no matter which pattern is exposed.

Dakota Outerwear is available for agency/unit purchase from www.adsinc.com/dakota-outerwear.
