Forces Focus – 42nd Route Clearance Co Partners with Bundeswehr

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

While this isn’t an EOD project, it is a counter-IED exercise pairing the US Army’s 42nd Route Clearance Company and the Bundeswehr’s 441st Mechanized Infantry Brigade Rout Clearance Team in a classic Engineer mission.

Although in typical AFN fashion the clip is short on details, it does remind us how important our engineer forces are in providing route clearanceIt also shows that new equipment has been developed for this mission and some of it was adapted from EOD.

Thanks from SSD to all the folks in the Counter-IED business!

Spectrum from ZERO POINT

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Aptly named due to its adaptability across the light spectrum, the Spectrum from Zero Point is an illumination toolkit. It comes packaged in a custom molded case and looks like a pen light. But it’s so much more.

The waterproof case features a purge valve and has a foam liner with cut outs for all of the components including batteries.

I have had the pleasure of having one available to use and it is fantastic. Each end of the Spectrum features a swappable light head which is powered by independently by a single AAA battery. This allows you to configure the Spectrum based on mission requirements although it can quickly be reconfigured. The heads integrate tightly spaced threads and O rings to keep the water out.

As you can see above, the optional High Density Rubber Light Shield prevents to light from going anywhere but where you direct it. This can come in handy for a variety of reasons. Additionally, the rubber construction of the Light Shield allows you to further control the beam by pinching it closed. Two are included with the Spectrum so that you can configure both heads simultaneously.

In addition to the UV and White light heads already mentioned, Infrared, Blue, and Red also come with the Spectrum. All lamps are LED.

EOD Warrior

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

Yes, this is essentially gear pr0n, but it gives you an idea of what the best dressed EOD techs are wearing and how they are equipped; with ZERO POINT kit naturally. This particular specimen was found in the ADS Inc booth at SHOT Show. We’ve reviewed a couple of bits of bits and pieces from Zero Point in the past and this post serves as a great teaser for a couple of upcoming articles featuring even more kit you can’t live without, whether you are EOD, or not.

SSD Exclusive – ZERO POINT is on a TiRAID

Monday, January 17th, 2011

When the need to access or open something exists and carrying a halligan tool is either impractical or just too much and a big screwdriver just won’t get it done, what do you use?

Well, the team at Zero Point asked themselves that very question. The tool that they came up with is the first joint effort between the guys with the operational experience and Zero Point’s newly established World-Class Engineering Team.

Not one to back down from a challenge, the engineers took what began as grey matter concept and a few basic sketches turning them into a well designed, highly functional tool in less than two months. Better yet, it’s made from titanium!

Enter the TiRAID (Titanium Replaceable Assault Implement Demolition)

As the name implies, the operator will have the ability to attach different options based on the assessed target as well as his particular style. The striking heads are available in either stainless steel for increased striking momentum and a finer cutting edge OR titanium for lighter weight and absolute corrosion resistance.

Striking Heads Include: Talon, Hawk, Bludgeon, Ax, and Hammerhead

As if producing the TiRAID in short-order wasn’t enough, Zero Point’s engineering team was also tasked to design and manufacture a ground breaking, 12 gauge IED disruptor, also out of titanium and within that same two month window, of course. naturally, they succeeded.

ADS carries the complete line of all Zero Point products. To see both tools visit ADS’s booth (#20415) while at Shot Show.

ZERO POINT Unleashes the BARE

Friday, January 7th, 2011

Body Armor Real Estate – Those four words pretty much sum up the dilemma of about everybody wearing armor these days. It seems like there just isn’t enough room for the gunfighting essentials, let alone specialized tools like those required by EOD operators. ZERO POINT has combined their operational savvy with innovative designs to produce new versions of current products as well as a few new ones.

In addition to the BARE technology, ZERO POINT will also have a couple of other surprises on hand. If you are a Breacher or EOD make sure you stop by ADS’s booth (#20415) to check it all out.

ZERO POINT Combat Exploitation Kit ADS

Monday, December 27th, 2010

ADS has just added ZERO POINT to their line up of vendors. ZERO POINT makes some pretty amazing equipment and much of it is built for very specific purposes and the CEx-E is just such a kit. Designed as a small and lightweight site exploitation kit it provides the EOD operator the capability to detect, identify and sample explosives, desensitize sensitive explosive compounds as well as sample and package unknown liquids and powders. In addition to the tools, the kit also provides supplies to collect evidence for Sensitive Site Exploitation purposes. There are components to collect and tag evidence, protect sensitive electronic IED components and media, and document and photograph a site. There is even a large collapsible bag to transport all recovered materials. They have thought of everything. The organizer which is designed to be carried in a larger pack is Berry Compliant and available in a variety of colors and camo patterns.
