Introducing EXFIL® Ballistic Ear Covers, EXFIL® Ballistic Visor and EXFIL® Face Shield

CLEVELAND, OH (August 29, 2018) – Cleveland-based Team Wendy® announced the launch of three new accessories today, all of which are compatible with the new EXFIL Rail 3.0 system: EXFIL Ballistic Ear Covers, the EXFIL Ballistic Visor and the EXFIL Face Shield. These new products allow the user to quickly and easily interchange mission-essential headborne equipment on one platform.

“We are constantly challenging ourselves to produce products that are not only protective and light-weight, but also scalable for the mission requirement,” said Jose Rizo-Patron, CEO of Team Wendy. “The EXFIL Rail 3.0 allows the operator more efficient use of the accessory rail, while the ear covers, visor and face shield provide additional protection without impeding functionality of the shroud; and they do so all within a single helmet, eliminating the need to carry different helmets for different missions.”

EXFIL Ballistic Ear Covers provide scalable ballistic protection, increasing the total coverage area of a high-cut ballistic helmet by 21.1 in2 (136 cm2). An EXFIL Ballistic helmet with attached ear covers offers comparable or greater ballistic coverage area (size one: 180 in2, size two: 191.8 in2) when compared to the standard issued U.S. Military helmet – the ACH (Advanced Combat Helmet) or MICH 2000 (size large: 178.8 in2). Composed of a proprietary composite mix with a carbon fiber frame, the ear covers meet NIJ Level III-A (according to NIJ STD 0106.01/0108.01) and weigh only 0.38 lbs. (172 g) for the set. The EXFIL Ballistic Ear Covers attach easily and tool-free to both the EXFIL Rail 2.0 and the new EXFIL Rail 3.0. A set retails at $399.95 and is one-size-fits-all.

The EXFIL Ballistic Visor provides low-profile, lightweight ballistic eye protection that attaches tool-free to the built-in picatinny rail at the front of the EXFIL Rail 3.0 system. It can be easily adjusted into three preset positions (down, up and stowed) and features a polycarbonate lens produced by Eye Safety Systems, a subsidiary of Oakley, Inc. With a generous coverage area of 28.9 in2 (186.1 cm2), the operator can still comfortably and effectively shoulder his/her weapon with proper sight alignment while wearing the visor. The EXFIL Ballistic Visor exceeds the impact, fragmentation and optical requirements of Military Combat Eye Protection (MCEP) in accordance with MIL-PRF-32432(GL), 09 Jan 2013 and retails for $290.

The EXFIL Face Shield enables law enforcement officers and military personnel to carry just one helmet, eliminating the need to carry both a standard issue ballistic helmet and a dedicated riot helmet. Like the EXFIL Ballistic Visor, the EXFIL Face Shield is low profile, lightweight and attaches in the same manner to the front section of the EXFIL Rail 3.0. The face shield is similarly adjustable into three positions (down, up and stowed), allowing the wearer to fully utilize the Wilcox W shroud for headlamps, cameras, night vision or thermal imaging devices while also running the face shield. The EXFIL Face Shield meets the requirements of EN166 and retails at $279.95.

The EXFIL Ballistic Visor and EXFIL Face Shield both come standard with a flexible upper flange that prevents debris and liquid from seeping into the wearer’s eyes from the brim of the helmet.

The EXFIL Ballistic Visor and EXFIL Face Shield come in two sizes (size one and size two), which should correspond with the operator’s EXFIL Ballistic helmet size. The EXFIL Rail 3.0 Retrofit Kit, EXFIL Ballistic Ear Covers, EXFIL Ballistic Visor and EXFIL Face Shield are each available in three colors: Black, Coyote Brown and Ranger Green.

Customers who already own an EXFIL Ballistic with the Rail 2.0 system can purchase an EXFIL Rail 3.0 Retrofit Kit for $34.95 to make the EXFIL Ballistic Visor or EXFIL Face Shield compatible. New buyers of the EXFIL Ballistic will be able to select their preferred rail at time of purchase.

The EXFIL Rail 3.0 Retrofit Kit, EXFIL Ballistic Ear Covers and EXFIL Ballistic Visor are now available for purchase on TeamWendy.com and through authorized Team Wendy dealers. The EXFIL Face Shield is currently available for pre-sale; orders received will start shipping in October.

In the short time since the release of the original Generation 1 Mohawk Counterweight and Storage systems, the Mohawk has been a runaway hit with military, LE, and civilian night vision users alike. Rather than resting on our laurels however, we’ve continued to improve upon the original Mohawk design and listened to user feedback, and we are now proud to announce the launch of the Generation 2 Mohawk Counterweight/Storage system.

Designed by TNVC staff and incorporating operator feedback as well as our staff’s own battlefield experience, we designed the Mohawk Gen. 2 to be a highly functional, modular accessory for all modern warriors. It provides useful storage and retention of mission-essential gear and will attach to any currently-fielded ballistic or bump helmet with Velcro.

Manufactured in the U.S. by Spiritus Systems, the Gen. 2 Mohawk is 100% Berry compliant, and is now constructed out of a much lighter weight 500D Cordura Nylon without giving up any of the functionality or features of the 1000D Generation 1 design. The Gen. 2 Mohawk also feature fully color and pattern matched Velcro loop fastener, even in patterns such as Multicam Aridä, Multicam Blackä, and Multicam Tropicä to provide an uninterrupted surface pattern. We’ve also introduced the highly requested Ranger Green colorway to the Mohawk line, replacing the Olive Drab of the Gen. 1 design.

Like the Gen. 1 Mohawk, the Gen. 2 Mohawk comes in three models:

· Mohawk MK1—Counterweight pouch with four user-configurable lead weights to adjust the counterweight from 4 ounces to a full pound, as well as a removable battery storage tray, perfect for almost any NVG system from the AN/PVS-14 to dual-tube systems like the AN/PVS-15, TNV/Sentinel, DTNVG, and more

Mohawk MK3 Gen. 2

The Mohawk Gen. 2 offers all of the great features that made the original Mohawk a hit, including the vertically-oriented Mohawk strip, which is the centerpiece of the design, featuring a Velcro pile surface that accepts attachment of all currently issued / fielded signal strobe devices. The continuous pile strip allows for precise placement of the device on the rear or top of the helmet while providing enough room for attaching a blast sensor device. The adjustable shock cord net provides secondary retention for the devices while not limiting access to their controls. The shock cord net also provides excellent storage for a SOF-T tourniquet for those not using an IR strobe.

The Gen. 2 also features extended cable management loops for communications downleads, as well as a cord lock retainer to prevent the retention bungee from shifting or hanging loose when mounted. The Mohawk also features multiple loops for ready access to spare batteries, as well as secondary retention tie-down points for additional stability and security.

The Generation 2 Mohawks are on sale now at $79 for all versions.

We are also running a clearance sale on all remaining stocks of the Generation 1 Mohawk while supplies last, with MK1 Gen. 1s and MK2 Gen. 1s priced at $59, and $69 for the MK3 Gen. 1.

Warrior East 18 – Norotos Improved Situationally Adjustable Mount

Thursday, July 12th, 2018

Norotos unveiled their new Improved Situationally Adjustable Mount (I-SAM). It can be used in stand alone mode or as an adapter to other mounts.

F0769D8A-8EFE-4901-A9D1-357DFD752878

Originally developed for an international client’s specific Night Vision Device, Norotos modified the I-SAM to accept other, more common systems. For instance, they’ve developed a completely new J Arm which is more compact, lighter, and stronger.

BBCCFFB2-F878-4943-9AC5-B58A582DEB24

The secret is the clamp adapter which provides interface between device and Mount.

Additionally, they offer a clamp adapter interface for existing PVS-7s. This is particularly effective for 7s which are missing the mounting horn. Many LE organizations still have these devices, so this may be a good fit.

6E1091F4-AB3C-4409-9323-DE6D0828CF83

The I-SAM allows a PVS-14 to instantly be swapped from left eye to right eye and even stowed out of the way. Tension is operator adjustable and infinitely adjustable, with no presets, allowing for optimal customization.

Natick Displays New Lightweight Helmet At Pentagon’s Close Combat Lethality Tech Day

Thursday, June 7th, 2018

The Close Combat Lethality Task Force recently held a Tech Day at the Pentagon. A wide variety of equipment was on hand. U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center researchers displayed a next generation helmet called the ACH Gen II: UHMWPE.

US Army photo by C. Todd Lopez

Essentially, it’s based on the second generation Army Combat Helmet, except that they’ve improved how the ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) used in the helmet is processed during molding. The ACH Gen II already offered a 22% weight reduction over the original ACH but can only stand up to 9mm and Frag threats.

The ACH Gen II: UHMWPE weighs 2.5 pounds for the shell, and an estimated 3.5 pounds final weight, but provides the same level of protection as the Integrated Head Protection System, which has just begun fielding. However, it does so without having to add a ballistic appliqué for rifle rounds like IHPS. Consider that an IHPS weighs about 5 lbs with the appliqué fitted. For a rifle threat-level Helmet, that’s a significant improvement.

Natick continues to develop Helmet technologies with a goal of offering rifle level protection in the weight of current Frag protection (ACH).

Rampart Range Day 18 – Schuberth Helmets

Tuesday, May 29th, 2018

Schuberth manufactures motorcycle, police and military helmets. Consequently, they often share technologies across the three different types of helmets. With how riots are dealt with becoming more prominent in society, Schuberth has introduced the HMK 150 which combines their P100N Riot Helmet with an Avon C50 respirator. It is manufactured to meet the strict standards of the 2011 General Technical Guidelines for Police Engineering.

Schuberth developed an exoskeleton for the respirator so that the soft rubber would move with the helmet and not break a seal when the wearer moved his head. The shell and mask are offered in three different sizes.

You’ll notice quite a few technologies from the motorcycle business like the energy absorbing EPS foam liner, which is offered in 11 different sizes for a proper fit. Additionally, all of the components are FR, including the shell, padding, no-fog visor and rigid neck shield which incorporates aramid to protect from thrown objects. In fact, the helmet is designed for liquids (especially burning liquids) to flow to the rear and off the helmet. Additionally, the helmet can be maintained by the wearer.

Although not shown, Schuberth also offers an FR comms headset for use with their helmets.

Schuberth Helmets are available in Canada from Rampart Corp.
