Caveat Emptor – Seconds/Counterfeit PenCott Fabric

Monday, February 9th, 2015

Bottom Line Up Front
The only truly authentic, genuine, first-quality PenCott fabrics are the ones that that have been or are being sold by Hyde Definition, MMI Textiles or Tacticaltrim.

Hyde Definition recently issued an alert regarding both the sale of seconds quality as well as counterfeit fabrics.

(null)

For example, this garment sewn in a Crye Precision combat uniform style is made from seconds quality GreenZone fabric. These are ejected off-color and other types of ‘second-quality’ PenCott camouflage fabric which have turned up on eBay and other online wholesale outlets being sold as good quality material. Some customers have already been duped by the low prices on the per-yard fabric and/or by low shipping rates.

If its not genuine first-quality fabric, there could be one or more problems with it – such as; the colors being off, the colors will fade quickly, the fabric will shrink too much when its washed, etc.

Counterfeits on the other hand are originating in China, Indonesia and Ukraine. These are unauthorized reproductions of genuine fabrics. Aside from being thievery, these fabrics suffer from indistinct prints, incorrect colors, and low quality substrate fabrics. Once again, buy fabric from legitimate sources to ensure quality.

Hyde Definition is pursuing legal action against the counterfeiters, and has pledged to take action against any retailer who offers finished goods made from these counterfeit fabrics.

SIG SAUER Issues Statement Regarding ATF Opinion on Stabilizing Braces

    Thursday, January 29th, 2015

During SHOT Show, SIG SAUER released this statement regarding the recent BATFE open letter on Stabilizing Braces. I had heard it was coming but didn’t look very hard for it during the busy season. Here it is, a week later, but still relevant.

NEWINGTON, N.H. (January 21, 2015)—SIG SAUER, Inc., has issued the following statement about the recent opinion by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in regard to the SB15 and SBX pistol stabilizing braces.

“As reaffirmed in an Open Letter by ATF’s Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division dated January 16, 2015, the Pistol Stabilizing Brace (SB15 and SBX) is legal to own, legal to purchase, and legal to install on a pistol. SIG SAUER believes that the PSB improves the single-handed shooting performance of buffer tube equipped pistols, and offers the product both as an accessory and pre-installed on a number of pistols.

“The Open Letter goes further to rescind a previous private letter regarding the ‘intent’ of the user of the pistol stabilizing brace. In the letter of January 16, 2015, ATF opines that a person’s actual use of the product as a shoulder stock can change the legal classification of the product. However, the Open Letter explicitly states: “ATF hereby confirms that if used as designed—to assist shooters in stabilizing a handgun while shooting with a single hand—the device is not considered a shoulder stock and therefore may be attached to a handgun without making a NFA firearm.”

“We question ATF’s reversal in position that the classification of the brace may be altered by its use. We are reviewing the legal precedents and justification for this position, and will address our concerns with ATF in the near future.

“We will vigorously defend the classification of all of our products and our consumers’ right to use them in accordance with the law. If we find that the open letter opinion is outside the scope of the law, we will seek further review.”

Adams Industries Announces Autem Novus as International Distributor

    Thursday, January 29th, 2015

Adams Industries, Inc., a manufacturer of night vision systems and tactical accessories, announced today that it is appointing Autem Novus LLC for international distribution in an effort to streamline its export compliance and export license processing. Chris Adams stated “After 20 years of handling our own export paperwork, I have found someone who is actually more up on the ITAR than I am and with whom I feel even more comfortable with than handling it myself. Gwen Weaver has accumulated an impressive depth of knowledge and know-how when it comes to compliance issues. Adams Industries is fortunate that she has decided to partner with us for night vision exports. Plus all the time I get back will go into product development and making new cool gear.” This change goes into effect immediately.

    Revision Military Showcases Capabilities

    Thursday, January 29th, 2015

Revision Military is so much more than eyepro. Over the past several years they’ve purchased a company or three and expanded their capabilities to provide a holistic soldier protection solution. Although they have been involved in USSOCOM’s TALOS program, it was more a conduit to showcase what they’ve done than a driver of innovation. They were already well on their own path when former Commander, USSOCOM, ADM McRaven called on industry to develop an “ironman” suit.

Revision has been way out in front of everyone else bringing this all in house. Hopefully, their hard work will be rewarded.

Brand and Oppenheimer Announce Management Transitions

    Tuesday, January 27th, 2015

RED BANK, NJ – January 27, 2015 – Brand & Oppenheimer Co., Inc. (B&O), a leading textile converter, today announced that it has appointed Edward Ricci, Ben Galpen, and Bryan Boulis, known for their work under the 1947 llc aegis, to the Office of the CEO, effective immediately. Ricci, Galpen, and Boulis were recruited by Praesidian Capital, B&O’s controlling shareholder.

The three industry veterans are known for their innovative, high-energy management styles. Ricci, who will serve as CEO and oversee all B&O operations, is a third- generation textile executive who served as CEO of Duro, the textile company his grandfather founded in 1947. During his 22-year career in the industry, he has had responsibility for more than 3,000 textile workers worldwide. Galpen brings an additional 17 years of experience in the industry, while Boulis has more than three decades of broad woven textile experience sourcing fabrics both domestically and globally for a wide variety of end users.

“We are very excited to have attracted three outstanding textile executives to B&O,” stated Jason Drattell, Praesidian’s Founder.

Jon Mansfield, Praesidian Partner, added “In addition to their deep textile expertise, they have especially strong relationships with domestic weavers of nylon, polyester, nylon/cotton and cotton substrates which should be extremely beneficial to the company in its future work.”

Ricci noted “We have known both B&O and Performance Textiles for many years and see a multitude of interesting synergies that will benefit all stakeholders. As part of our work, we will bring new MultiCam® fabric development in the U.S. to B&O, as well as international MultiCam fabric sales on an exclusive basis. We are equally pleased to have a chance to work with the B&O and the Praesidian teams as we accelerate the company’s growth opportunities.”

Wow! Congrats to all involved! An inquiry to 1947 LLC revealed that it will continue to function as a separate entity, independent from this announcement.
