UF PRO Begins Producing Limited Quantity of Striker X BDUs in High-Performing French CCE Camo Pattern

Friday, March 25th, 2022

TRZIN, SLOVENIA (24 March 2022)—UF PRO today announced it will soon release limited numbers of its Striker X Battle Dress Uniform in France’s high-performance CCE camouflage pattern for dense European forests and similar environments.

CCE stands for Camouflage Centre-Europe in French and is considered ideal for concealment at mid- to long-distances in places lush with green and brown foliage (CCE’s pattern features a tan background overlaid with macro- and midi-elements of woodland shapes in green and brown).

Inspired by the U.S. Army’s Woodland pattern, CCE was introduced in 1991 and replaced France’s venerable TAP47 “lizard” camouflage, introduced in 1947. CCE has been standard-issue for French troops since 1994 and more recently has been adopted by Austrian and Indian forces.

The Striker X BDU consists of three pieces: combat pants, combat shirt, and boonie hat.

Embracing a radical rethinking about trouser design, the Striker X Combat Pants are constructed to meet the rigorous demands of military special-forces units for which extreme ruggedness, reliable protection surrounding the knees, and super-spacious and intelligently configured pockets are crucial.

Meanwhile, the Striker X Combat Shirt (like the combat pants) is built to withstand punishing use, a seeming impossibility given its exceptionally comfortable softness. The explanation is that the torso material (known as Lizard/Skin) is constructed from Lyocell/polyamide-knitted fabric reinforced with ceramic dots for tremendous abrasion resistance.

The Striker Gen.2 Boonie Hat has mesh ventilation openings front and back to allow the free circulation of air on hot, sunny days. Other vital features include adjustable fit, adjustable brim shape, and an inside-the-crown hidden pocket for holding cash, a passport, and other small documents or objects.

UF PRO did not disclose the exact number of Striker X BDUs it plans to print in CCE, but indicated the quantity would be limited.

HENSOLDT Equips German C-130 “Hercules” with State-of-the-art Missile Defense System

Wednesday, March 16th, 2022

Taufkirchen, 11. March 2022 – In the course of the acquisition of three Lockheed C-130J-30 and KC-130J “Hercules” aircraft each, the German Bundeswehr decided to equip all aircraft with HENSOLDT’s latest generation of defense sensor technology. With MILDS Block 2, HENSOLDT is supplying a total of 35 sensors (five per aircraft and five units for lab use) to Danish company Terma A/S, which is managing the integration of the systems at Lockheed Martin through Terma Inc. The contracts, with a scope of 2.9 million euros, were signed in 2020. So far, 20 sensors and the ordered desiccant-kits have already been delivered. By January 2023, the remaining 15 sensors will be delivered. The first “Hercules” for the German Air Force was handed over in Évreux/Fauville (France) on February 19, 2022 to the Franco-German air-transport squadron. With MILDS Block 2, HENSOLDT is also helping to close the capability gap created by the retirement of the C-160 “Transall”.

MILDS Block 2 is a passive, true imaging sensor system optimised for detecting emission signatures in the UV solar blind spectral band emitted from an approaching missile exhaust plume. The sensor is designed as the successor to the well-known MILDS AN/AAR-60, offering increased sensitivity and additional applications. MILDS Block 2 detects incoming missile threats and indicates the direction of arrival with maximum warning time. MILDS Block 2’s high spatial resolution combined with advanced temporal processing provides a very high declaration rate while virtually eliminating false alarms. MILDS Block 2 consists typically of four to six identical interconnected detectors integrated into the higher-level EW system. In addition, neither cooling nor a central processing unit are required.

A high percentage of aircraft losses in current and recent conflicts have been caused by ground-based defense systems using IR SAM (infrared surface-to-air missile). To keep pace with this evolution on the threat side, HENSOLDT Sensors has developed the MILDS AN/AAR-60 Block 2 missile warning system, a self-protection solution specifically for helicopters and wide-body aircraft that allows for higher performance and enables additional features such as in-sensor data recording and Hostile Fire Indication (HFI). Rapid detection and declaration, combined with automatic countermeasure release and crew alerting, supports mission success and safe crew and aircraft return.

RavenBelt

Wednesday, March 16th, 2022

We ran across RavenBelt during the recent Enforce Tac show in Germany. It’s a new Austrian company which created a product out of need.

The founder wasn’t satisfied with existing duty belts so came up with a new belt design, made from an elastomer. It’s easy to set up with equipment and then adjust for size once you’re wearing it. It’s also stiff under load. Additionally, they’ve also developed keepers to prevent pouches from slipping out of place.

Turns out, we were getting a preview of the RavenBelt which launches in May 1st.

RUAG International Enters into Sales Agreement with Beretta Holding on Ammotec

Tuesday, March 15th, 2022

Zürich, 09.03.2022. RUAG International has concluded an agreement on the sale of its Ammotec business unit to the Beretta Holding. As envisaged by the Swiss Federal Council, the Ammotec division will be divested – with site assurance for Thun and transfer of all employees. The closing of the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals. The parties have agreed not to disclose any financial terms.

As envisaged by the Swiss Federal Council in its divestment strategy, RUAG International’s small-caliber ammunition business will be sold. The decision was made in favor of the Beretta Holding, taking into account all conditions made by the Swiss Federal Council. The Beretta Holding will take over all 2,700 employees at all production and sales sites. The Beretta Holding has committed itself to maintaining the Thun site with around 400 jobs for at least five years.

Next step in the transformation to an agile space provider

For RUAG International, the sales agreement once again confirms its strategy of evolving from a state-owned enterprise into an agile technology provider with a focus on space. André Wall, CEO of RUAG International, says: “We are taking the next step to withdraw from the defense-related business completely. We are pleased to have found a renowned industrial partner for Ammotec in Beretta, who will take over all employees and the Thun site. With its industry experience and global presence, Beretta offers the best conditions to sustainably grow Ammotec’s business activities for the benefit of customers and employees.”

RUAG Ammotec is a leading European supplier of small-caliber ammunition. Ammotec generates around two-thirds of its total sales in the civil sector – with hunting and sporting ammunition or components for industry. Ammotec also supplies small-caliber ammunition for defense and law enforcement. In the parliamentary process, the sale of Ammotec had been confirmed in autumn 2021, as stipulated by the Swss Federal Council.

New home in Italian family business

Pietro Gussalli Beretta, President and CEO of Beretta Holding emphasizes that there is an excellent cultural and strategic fit: “We have the firearms and the optics, RUAG Ammotec high quality ammunition, there is almost no overlap. This is a special moment in the history of our group. We welcome RUAG Ammotec’s employees and we want to grow together.”

Beretta has been family-owned since its founding in 1526 and has become a globally recognized leader in light firearms for hunting, sport and defense. With the acquisition, the Beretta Holding Group will grow to more than 6,000 employees with more than 50 subsidiaries worldwide. The turnover will reach nearly 1.4 billion euros.
