DPx Gear Announces Its First All American Made Folding Knife. Available Only From Kickstarter

DPx

DPx Gear is making their first American made hard use folder with a blade length under 3″ for urban use. The DPx HEST/F Urban is designed, sourced, built and backed in the United States of America.

San Diego, CA – November 17, 2015. A 30-day Kickstarter campaign for the knife launched Monday, November 16th with backer rewards that include three different configurations of the knife that are limited edition, numbered runs of 100 units. The knife rewards range in price from $275 – $375 and can be seen on the campaign page.

“I’ve always wanted to make a knife that was uniquely and totally American. And also one that lasted a very long time; what I would call an heirloom-quality knife. One that can be handed down from generation to generation,” says Robert Young Pelton, DPx Gear Founder, of the DPx HEST/F Urban.

DPx Gear’s first 100% all American made folding knife will be surprisingly small when compared to its big brother, the Northern Italian made DPx HEST/F. The DPx HEST/F Urban will weigh in at just 3.35 ounces, measure 3.8 inches long when closed, and 6.7 inches long when open. It will be jewel like in its manufacturing precision and have the best feel that U.S manufacturing can deliver. Designed to be carried every day and last lifetimes.

The DPx HEST/F Urban will feature:

  • American 6Al4v Titanium Frame. A frame made of aerospace quality, American 6Al4v titanium alloy in “Battleship Grey” heavy bead blast finish (the “Sterile Edition”). Upgraded options include bronze anodized titanium (the “Bronze Edition”) or a three-dimensional Mr. DP pattern milled into the frame (“The Mr. DP Edition”).
  • S30V Stainless Steel Blade. A U.S. made and formulated blade steel with a stonewashed finish. We chose a hollow ground blade that’s “shaver sharp” with maximum slicing tooth.
  • Bearing Pivot. Stainless steel caged bearing pivot hardware for rapid deployment and effortless opening and closing.
  • DPx Gear Patented Blade Notch. Designed to allow the knife to open faster than an automatic and to the rear of the holder, keeping it safe from the assailant. Naturally it was also designed to open beer bottles and function as a
  • Integral ¼” Hex Drive. DPx believes if you are going to carry around a quality knife it better earn its keep. Pairing commonly used hex tools with our built in hex drive turns your DPx HEST/F Urban into a multi tool.
  • DPx Gear Patented Tri-Gauge Wire Strippers. Jimping that doubles as wire strippers in the exact size of household gauge, auto and even timer wires (for blasting or electronics).
  • Frame Lock. The US-invented frame lock for bulletproof lockup. First used in Chris Reeves’ famous Sebenza knives it has become the standard locking feature for high-end custom knives. We added a stainless steel cap to reduce wear on the lock face.
  • Glass Breaker. Our DPx HEST/F Urban has a hardened stainless steel glass breaker. A potentially life saving tool in the event of an auto accident or fire.
  • Deep Carry Pocket Clip. The deep carry clip ensures your knife rides as low and as unobtrusively as possible in your pocket.

    Leatherman Signal

    Monday, October 26th, 2015

Leatherman joins the survival craze with a new tool incorporating 19 features including:
Safety Whistle, Ferrocerium Rod, Diamond Sharpener. Made from 420HC Stainless Steel and featuring DLC (diamomd like coating), the Signal’s survival features may seem like afterthoughts, but this is a great multi-tool for keeping in the trunk for emergencies.

U.S. Elite – PC-Run-Wild in Silicon Valley – You Call That a Knife?!?

    PC Run Wild

Steve Keefer, CEO of U.S. Elite, recently wrote a blog post detailing how several Silicon Valley companies, including Google and PayPal, have negatively impacted U.S. Elite’s web presence by denying advertising and payment services due to their sale of knives. The opening paragraph can be read below:

This is one man’s perspective on what I’ll call ‘PC-run-wild’ in Silicon Valley. My company has had to stop selling knives, which were an important part of our business. This did not happen because we’re bad at selling knives, or violated any laws, or acted in any way less than the high standards to which we hold ourselves. Simply put, it seems the powers that be in Silicon Valley have decided that small businesses should not be selling knives online. As a mini-David against Goliaths like Google, Facebook, Twitter and PayPal, I don’t have a lot of rational options other than to just vent and share my story with you.

    AUSA – Gerber Silver Trident

    Tuesday, October 13th, 2015

While Gerber’s Silver Trident isn’t exactly brand new, I don’t feel that it has received the attention it deserves.

A William Harsey, Jr. and Chief Watson (a founding member of Navy Seal Team 2) design collaboration, the Silver Trident features a 6.5″ double serrated blade made from 154CM.  The handle is overmolded with  two densities of Hytrel, a rubbery compound, with a rock hard center and softer, textured outer layer.  The steel butt is meant for hammering and the knife comes with a ballistic nylon sheath.

MDM – Outland Equipment – Kryptos K1 Knife

    Thursday, September 24th, 2015

    IMG_4234

Outland Equipment developed the Kryptos K1 in collaboration with a US SOF customer (as in unit). The K1 is designed as a concealable carry knife, with a covert sheath which can be worn horizontally on a 1.5″ tactical belt. It’s an ambidextrous sheath design and can be positioned anywhere on a belt. The K1 is designed optimally for a swift and natural draw, with a pinky hook which helps index the hand and provides a secure location for a draw, and a solid base for thrusting. The handle of the blade has G10 scales, and jimping, for a more secure grip. The K1 is constructed of CMP 3V steel, with a full tang. The blade is double edged, with a 3.75″ primary cutting edge.

Also included with the K1 is a blue stainless steel training knife. Naturally, the handle geometry and sheath draw are designed to feel exactly like the live knife.

    Warrior East - Concept Model

We first encountered the K1 at Warrior East, as a proof of concept while they dialed the design in with the customer. Although largely the same as the final production model, you can see a couple of features still being worked on, such as the design of the sheath, and the smooth scales on the handle, compared to the textured scales on later models.

    OR - Pre Production Sample

Later, at Outdoor Retailer, we got to see the Pre-Production Sample Model. Here you can see it serves as the basis for the production knives, including the blue trainer, and the finalized sheath.

Production of the Kryptos K1 for this initial run was limited to 10 kits. At the time of writing, only four kits remained for sale.  There are more coming.

Sparrows Lock Picks – Halo Points Knives

    Tuesday, September 8th, 2015

    Halo Points

As you may remember, earlier in the year Sparrows Lock Picks developed a limited run of their Field Spec 3 knives for a select customer, and sold the rest to the public. The success of the Field Spec 3 prompted Sparrows to permanently add them to their product line, as well as expand the set to include two new blades.

The Halo Points, as they are now called, are blades made of 440C steel, with a black stone wash. Small and sharp, the blades are designed to be pinched with fingers or tied onto an object. They come with a bit of paracord, and for the first time can be purchased individually, as well as an entire set.
