  LIBERTY OR DEATH T-SHIRT

At the Virginia convention held May 1775, The Colony was divided into 16 districts and each district instructed to raise and discipline a battalion of men “to march at a minute’s notice.”

On July 17, 1775 a cadre of 350 men called the Culpeper Minute Men were organized under a large oak tree in “Clayton’s old field”

They adopted uniforms consisting of hunting shirts of strong, brown lines, dyed with an extract of the leaves of trees. On the breast of each shirt was worked in large white letters the words: “LIBERTY OR DEATH.”

Their flag had a rattlesnake with 13 rattles, coiled in the center, ready to strike. Underneath it were the words: “DON’T TREAD ON ME.” On either side were the words: “LIBERTY OR DEATH.” And at the top “THE CULPEPER MINUTE MEN.”

No sooner were they formed than the companies of Culpeper Minute Men were absorbed into regiments of the Continental Line, and by Act of Assembly in October 1776, they were dissolved and merged into the militia. Many went on to serve, and die in places like Valley Forge.

As with much of the art created in an era long before “cut-n-paste”, many versions exist. The snake and the text on the Magpul “Liberty or Death” T-shirt are inspired from some of the more rare versions of this original artwork.

Way Of The Gun Covert B.E.L.T.

Wednesday, February 24th, 2016

Former Green Beret and tactical firearms trainer Frank Proctor refined the design of the Covert B.E.L.T. (Bring Everything Light Tactical) over a period of three years. Now, it’s his EDC belt as well as his range and competition belt.

The sides of this 1.5″ wide belt incorporate a stiffener where you would wear an OWB holster or external mag pouches. However, there’s no stiffener at the rear, but rather a small velcro pouch located at the small of the back. One of my favorite features are the plastic D-rings used to secure the belt. They aren’t only low profile, but allow you to keep your belt on while going through metal detectors. Additionally, the Covert B.E.L.T. offers elastic loops for magazines, sewn directly to the belt. These elestic slots are lined so mags won’t fall out and there are two pistol mag pouches up front and a pistol and rifle mag pouch on both sides behind the hip making the belt ambidextrous.

The Covert B.E.L.T. is made in the USA and offered in several sizes but you need to read the fine print on the website to ascertain the correct size.

More Low Viz Battle Belt Info

Monday, February 22nd, 2016

Designed in conjunction with High Speed Gear, the Low Vis Battle Belt is meant to work with the HTC Low Profile System and other components.

The idea was to combine the padded comfort of a traditional battle belt with a slim profile that can still be concealed beneath appropriate cover garments and jackets. It also eliminates the problem of having a battle belt that can ride up and down on the waistline during movement and the thin padding allows holsters and equipment to ride tightly to the body. The entire platform can be folded in half, as the stiffener includes a split at the center (mid-back) of the grid.

Available in two colors, Black and Coyote Tan, each Low Vis Battle Belt comes with a Micro Grip Belt Panel for standalone use without an underbelt. The Low Viz Battle Belt is offered in two sizes, Small (recommended for 30-35″ waists) and Medium (recommended for 36″+ waists). The Medium belt is slightly longer and offers one additional section of the PALS grid on each end. Optional Velcro underbelts are also available to lock the padded platform in place on the waistline.

FirstSpear’s Viking Patrol Harness In The Wild

Thursday, February 18th, 2016

That’s Norway for those who wondered and the Viking Patrol Harness was developed specifically for Mountain and Cold Weather warfare. For instance, it’s in the ATACS ATX winter pattern. Additionally, it has shoulder and back straps that are longer than usual to accommodate cold weather clothing.

It features three fixed, full flapped magazine pockets capable of two 30 round 5.56 magazines along with a fixed radio pouch that holds radios of similar size to the AN/PRC-148 MBITR. Also, Modular 6/12 Panels on each side will accept FirstSpear’s complete line of FS 6/9 or 6/12 pockets as well as any older pockets with a PALS compatible attachment system. The harness also comes with the following 6/9 accessory pockets: Arctic Canteen and Cold Weather General Purpose with 2 External Pistol Magazine Pockets.
