Grey Ghost Gear announces it has released the SLIM MEDICAL (SMP) pouch for general purchase. After months of T&E at home and in Afghanistan with SOF personnel the SMP is commercially available.
Asked why they chose to build particular piece of kit as the next in their line-up, Grey Ghost Gear Vice President responds “The reason we decided to put it in the marketplace
is simply because there’s very little else out there like it. It contains just enough stuff to treat yourself has some great features—a TQ cinch on the front, clamshell opening tab on top so you can tear it open easily under stress with bloody or sweaty hands, that sort of thing.”
The Slim Medical Pouch is currently available in MultiCam and Coyote, though additional ‘civilian’ colors as well as an all-black version are planned.
Lindsey Lea, Grey Ghost Gear’s Director of Business Development, explains further. “Our designers built this on info we’ve gotten back from guys in a number of different places, including one of the SFGs [Special Forces Groups] that’s over there now. It may evolve somewhat in the future if the threat changes or what they tell us demands it, but all necessary changes appear to have been made in the early stages and trials. Right now it’s built exactly the way they wanted it.”
The Slim Medical Pouch is constructed of 500 Denier Cordura® nylon. It takes up just two modular webbing channels on the mounting platform and secures with the two included Malice Clips®. As the name implies, it has a slim profile and is specifically designed to carry the most important immediate action trauma supplies. Dual zippers running the full length of the pouch and a large pull time allow quick access to the contents inside the pouch.
The inside contains more than ample room for vital trauma kit, as well as a flat pocket and elastic bands to secure various items. A bungee retainer system on the front of the pouch can cinch a tourniquet or other gear down, and two rows of modular webbing on either side will hold trauma shears or other items.
The pouch was designed to carry the following items but is capable of storing an array of other items as needed:
• 1 Pair of Nitril gloves
• HALO Chest seal x 2
• CAT Tourniquet x 2
• Trauma Shears
• Decompression Needle
• H&H compressed Gauze x2
• Quickclot Combat Gauze
• 6” Israeli Compression Bandage
• 28 FR NPA

CELOX Rapid Ribbon is the first compact-carry, minimal compression time gauze designed specifically for narrow entry wounds such as gsw, stab, or shrapnel wounds. The Rapid Ribbon is 1 inch wide and 5 feet long fully unfurled, roughly the size of a ‘fun size’ candy bar when in package, and requires minimal-to-no compression giving it a pack-and-go capability.
It’s great to see a company created by public servants partner with a group that employs the handicapped.
Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis (LHB), a not-for-profit manufacturing and packaging organization with a dedicated social service mission, announced today that it has won a contract from Phokus Research Group, LLC, a company based in San Diego, California, to package trauma bandages for the company’s innovative “Sons Trauma Kit”.
The ‘Sons Trauma Kit’ was originally designed by an active duty U.S. Navy SEAL medic. It has proven itself many times on the battlefield both in Iraq and Afghanistan during the last three years. Built for maximum efficiency, the Sons Trauma Kit eliminates bulky exterior medical pouches by fitting securely and comfortably behind an operator’s concealable body armor, or in hydration packs or sleeves. The trauma bandage being packaged by LHB is one of several life-saving medical products contained within the compact kit.
John Thompson, President of Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis, says, “LHB was chosen to package a trauma bandage within the ‘Sons Trauma Kit’ because of our extensive experience working with military and commercial medical kits. This is a specialty bandage that is used to stop internal and external bleeding. Normally, such bandages are very bulky and take up substantial space within a medical kit.
“The ‘Sons Trauma Kit’ is notable for its sleek design allowing it to fit flush against the body,” Thompson says. “LHB developed a way to package the bandage so its thickness is less than an inch. We do this by using a machine and heat sealer to remove the air without shriveling the package. LHB has forged a great business partnership with Phokus Research Group and we anticipate growing our business together,” Thompson continued. “This business relationship and others that we anticipate in the future represents opportunities for LHB to increase employment for people who are blind.”
“At LHB, our new business partnerships enable the organizations involved to produce and sell more products to increase their earnings, which leads to increased economic opportunities, while helping to provide meaningful work for people who are blind,” Thompson noted.
“More employers need to know that new technology has leveled the playing field for persons who are blind, making it possible for them to perform manufacturing and packaging jobs that sighted persons can do. Our commercial partnerships, and also partnerships with government and military customers, help enhance LHB’s social service programs that we offer in St. Louis and throughout Missouri for people who are blind, and strengthen the fabric of our communities and our regional economy,” Thompson asserts.
Terms of the Lighthouse contract with Phokus Research Group, LLC were not disclosed. Also known as LHB Industries, Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis is a non-profit entity that helps adults and children who are visually impaired maintain dignity and independence by offering Employment, Education and Support Services. Founded in 1933, The Lighthouse operates manufacturing and packaging plants in the cities of Berkeley and Overland in St. Louis County. LHB and its employees manufacture, assemble, warehouse and sell high-quality products to government and business customers nationwide including first aid kits, medical kits, catheters, aerosol and liquid paints, aerosol and liquid cleaning products, eco-friendly products and many others.
All sales revenues directly support Lighthouse programs including Professional Career Development; Special Technology and Adaptive Resources for Students (STARS); Summer Jobs for Students; Continuing Education; Arts & Entertainment Accessibility; Low Vision Aid; and others available for individuals who are legally blind and visually impaired in Missouri and Southwestern Illinois.
This is a Medical Cargo Pack prototype that Chase Tactical has been working on with Warrior Assault Systems. This Medic pack will allow the medic to carry multiple IV bags along with a hydration bladder. The medic will have the ability to run IV lines through the bottom while still supplying a water line through a bladder system from the top. The pack butterfly open allowing the user to work from 4 large zippered mesh pouches which are separate from the hydration bladder spacing. On the front of the pack is a Medic Rip Off pouch. The Medic rip off pouch will easily allow the medic to access a rapid trauma pack which can include multiple tourniquets. This Medic Cargo Pack is currently going through the T&E process in the field and will allow the medic a whole range of potential applications. Stay posted for more pictures and updates of this pack.

The All Platform Evacuation (APE) litter from Ferno Military Systems is the official quad-folding litter of the USSOCOM CASEVAC Set that we mentioned here in SSD a few weeks back. The litter is unique for its speed of deployment, interchangeable litter beds and field repairable/replaceable parts. The downward locking spreader bars allow the litter to be deployed with simple gross motor movements (just step on it, how’s that for simple?). It is also the first quad-folding litter on the market that allows end users to field replace the litter bed and frame sections. This means that when the patient bed becomes soiled or damaged, you simply open the Velcro closures and put on a new one. Other litters have to be thrown away as the beds are permanently attached. Why toss the expensive metal frame because of problems with the bed? Possibly the biggest bonus to forward-deployed units is that parts (frame sections, feet, handles) can be removed/replaced with a Phillips screwdriver and an open-end box wrench. So one litter can be cannibalized to keep others in service.
This three dimensionally printed shirt puts the vital body parts on full view. Large muscle groups, internal organs are displayed for edged weapon training, baton training. You are only limited by your imagination. Target areas are now right in front of your eyes. A moving target is what you likely will face, so train to hit prescribed areas.
An additional benefit of this shirt is that with marking devices you can visibly “score” the wounds and discuss the psychological and physiological implications. In addition you can use the “hits” to conduct immediate after action triage and first responder treatment based on the now visible wounds. Self treatment for preservation and minimization of injuries is the new wave of LEO training so make use of this shirt to bring it home in your training classes.
