Propper Adds Army Combat Pant to Online Catalog

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

Propper has added their version of the Army Combat Pant to their ecommerce site. We covered the pant in-depth during last year’s Modern Day Marine, showing the various features. The ACP is manufactured from TenCate Defender M and integrates the Crye Precision knee pad.

This indicates that it may soon be for sale, at least to Government clients. Their description –

The PROPPER ACP based on the Crye design is a specialized garment incorporating feedback from field trials and tests conducted in Afghanistan. The ACP, while resembling the appearance of the current Fire Resistant Army Combat Uniform (FRACU), includes unique features, capabilities and characteristics necessary for improved performance on the modern battlefield.

The ACP offered by PROPPER is available in the Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern (OCP or MultiCam).

Multimedia & eReader cases from IA

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Intelligent Armour released a very nice MultiCam Kindle case a few weeks ago. Based on its success, they’ve added a few new options to their range of multimedia cases to include iPad, Nook, Kobo and Samsung eReaders and other tablets.

Intelligent Armour manufactures all of these cases in the UK, UK using Crye Multicam 2-way stretch from Duro Industries. The larger cases employ Potomac Field Gear’s Advance Protective Fabric; this is to protect the device/tablet screen from getting scratched. The fabric is also fire retardant, wicking and anti-static.

DF-LCS Contract Now Includes OCP

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

The AF Security Forces Center has modified their existing Defensor Fortis Load Carrying System (DF-LCS) Requirements Contract for USAF Security Forces to include MultiCam (OCP) packs, load carry harnesses, pouch kits, padded belts and misc pouches.

This change allows AF Security Forces to now purchase MultiCam versions of all the items previously available in ABU (Digital Tiger Stripe) at the same price and via the same contract vehicle. All of the new items continue to meet mil-spec and Berry compliance requirements.

Additionally, the new GEN III harnesses are the revamped version based on survey results from users in 2011. Improvements include 5 sizes of harnesses to better address the different body types and heights, improved web management and additional padding in the neck and shoulder areas.

Orders can be placed via the contract itself or, beginning next week, directly through the contract holder, GCS’s portal at GCSWarrior.com.

MultiCam Materials – Zeta

Thursday, July 26th, 2012

SSD regularly showcases a different MultiCam print fabric from Duro Textiles LLC. This week, we are covering the Zeta fabric. MultiCam is a single camouflage pattern designed to hide the wearer in varied environments, seasons, elevations, and light conditions. After a great deal of commercial success and adoption by elements of US Special Operations Forces, in 2010 MultiCam was selected for use by the US Army as its Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern (OCP).

Zeta is an an IR compliant, water repellant 70D fabric in a ripstop weave. It is great for use as a face fabric in quilting applications due to its breathability. This is because it features a DWR finish and not a full waterproof coating.

Specs:
This product has a water repellant finish.
This product is IR compliant.
Download a test report here.

Wiggy’s uses Zeta for the shell of the MultiCam Ultra Light sleeping bag. This is a +20 degree F that is available in 4 sizes and can be combined with an additional bag to bring the rating down to -20 degree F.

Duro offers progressive pricing based on the number of yards ordered. For more information on this or any of the full line of MultiCam fabrics visit www.multicamfabric.com or email Galpen_Ben@DuroLink.com.

Counterfeits – It’s Not Just Cut and Sew

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

Over the weekend I visited a Barnes & Noble. Amongst the tchotchke at the checkout was a camouflaged book mark. Upon closer inspection I noticed that it was in the MultiCam pattern.

When I flipped it over I noticed that it had been designed by David Cole Wheeler. I thought that was pretty amazing since I didn’t see his name on the MultiCam patent.

I checked with Crye Precision and they informed me that they did not license the MultiCam pattern to the producer of these bookmarks.

This just goes to show that you never know where you are going to see a knockoff. And, with the US Army Camouflage Improvement Effort afoot, you can imagine that even images of the winning patterns are going to be very lucrative as the market moves to use them in various ways.

Let’s face it, DOD budgets aren’t exactly getting larger these days, so, in the interest of diversifying their customer base and product portfolios, Serket has teamed with TenCate (scrap fabric only – no real Defender M was harmed in the manufacture of this sun dress) and Travis McDowell (and his Grandma) to develop a functioning prototype of the world’s first flame resistant, no-melt, anti-static, anti-microbial, MultiCam sundress (concept only – hold your money orders, operators are NOT standing by).

Test/evaluation is currently underway in Somalia, Syria, The Congo (in Kryptek Mandrake) and Asheville, N.C.
