SIG Range Day 20 – Smart Shooter

Sunday, January 19th, 2020

Israeli company Smart Shooter demonstrates their SMASH system mounted to a SIG M400 carbine. SMASH is a small arms fire control system that combines a thermal imager and algorithms to acquire a target, lock on to it and then effectively engage it. Once the target is selected and locked, you keep it in your sight picture and depress the trigger. The weapon will knot engage when a proper firing solution is found. Using it, I was able to easily engage moving targets out to 200 meters.

Seen here is the trainer version on a generic stick which is used to show new shooters how to use the system. Thanks to the thermal camera, it can be used in day or night. Additionally, the sight picture can be shared with others via C4 systems.

The system can be used to designate and Additionally, SMASH has been used to engage drones with M4 carbines.

SIG CEO Ron Cohen told me that they are going to work with Smart Shooter in the future and introduce some of their technology into the system such as BDX.

This system makes the average shooter more accurate and can be used for individual precision shots out to 300m. Naturally, you don’t have to use it if you need to engage multiple targets at once.

Meopta DichroTech Reticle Technology Wins Gray’s Best Award

Sunday, January 19th, 2020

TAMPA, FL, January 15, 2020 – Meopta’s groundbreaking DichroTech reticle technology, which delivers battery-free illumination, has won a 2020 Gray’s Best award.  This advanced dichroic coating enables reticles in multiple color configurations to automatically adjust color tone and intensity in varying light conditions without the use of a battery.   DichroTech provides maximum contrast and visibility, enhancing target acquisition while speeding and improving shot placement.

The following are excerpts from the Gray’s Sporting Journal 2020 Expeditions and Guides Annual:

“This is the first time in the 25-year history of Gray’s Best that we have given the award for a reticle technology, but when Meopta refers to their DichroTech as “game changing,” they are not exaggerating.

In recent years, the hot item has been illuminated reticles, with the illumination powered by batteries.  These have steadily improved, with such modifications as variable intensity to suit ambient conditions and prevent loss of night vision, and automatic shut-offs to conserve battery power.  Each has had its drawbacks, however, not least being the need for instant adjustment when seconds count (a glimpse of a moving deer at twilight) to batteries dying at the most inopportune moment, and the need to remember to carry spares.

Meopta’s new “dichroic” technology gives you a coating, for lack of a better term, which adjusts the reticle’s visibility to ambient light conditions with no action on your part.  It is permanent, battery free, and never threatens your night vision.”

• Terry Wieland, Shooting Editor

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award from Gray’s Sporting Journal and appreciate their recognition of Meopta’s efforts to offer hunters and shooters a unique alternative to battery-powered illuminated riflescopes,” said Pavel Stastny, Senior Director of Sales and Marketing at Meopta.  “DichroTech reticles have been well received, and we will continue to add more reticle options using this new technology.”

DichroTech reticles are currently available in the MeoStar and Optika6 riflescope lines with more offerings to come.

“Red Dot Reflex Optics have long been the standard amongst the military and law enforcement, and are rapidly growing in popularity amongst commercial consumers. The number one barrier to universal adoption of the red dot in the commercial market is the installation and zeroing of the optic on the pistol,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, SIG SAUER, Inc. “SIG SAUER is the only manufacturer in the firearms industry that can truly integrate a firearm and an optic into a single system right from the factory to completely eliminate the installation hesitation of the red dot. With the introduction of the SIG SAUER P320 RXP series of pistols we are leading the Red Dot Revolution so end users can easily achieve greater performance and increased accuracy with one simple purchase.”

See The New TNVC ANVS to BNVD Cable Adapter at SHOT Show 2020 Booth #6502

Thursday, January 16th, 2020

Sands Expo Center, Las Vegas, Nevada — January 16, 2020

Tactical Night Vision Company (TNVC) is excited to introduce the new TNVC ANVS to BNVD Cable Adaptor at the 2020 NSSF SHOT Show Booth #6502. The TNVC ANVS to BNVD Cable Adapter (TNVC-ABCA) allows end users to power night vision devices equipped with a BNVS-style external power connection port such as the L3Harris BNVD-family (AN/PVS-31A, BNVD-1531) or GPNVG using ANVS remote battery packs (LPBP) or other power supplies using the Legacy LEMO connector.

As issued, Legacy ANVS power supplies are not compatible with the BNVS-style connection used on many next generation night vision devices, frustrating users with large numbers of Legacy power supplies already in inventory that cannot be used with their night vision devices. Moreover, the cost of OEM BNVS-style power supplies is often prohibitive if power supplies or cables are lost or damaged or spares are needed.

While many night vision devices have onboard battery capabilities, many end users prefer the extended battery life offered by using external power supplies with their night vision devices, especially in colder weather, while devices such as the GPNVG-18 have no onboard battery capabilities. Furthermore, moving the power supply to the back of the helmet in an external power supply can help to counterweight night vision devices mounted on the front of the helmet, improving user comfort and reducing neck strain and fatigue.

The TNVC-ABCA is also compatible with ruggedized external battery packs such as the LPBP-Ground Optimized (also available from TNVC), which allow end user to use either AA or CR123A batteries, giving them greater flexibility for powering their devices with readily available power cells, and at a much lower cost than the OEM external power supplies.

The TNVC-ABCA was developed in partnership with the OE manufacturer of the BNVS power connector, and features a durable, shielded cable and a rubberized BNVS connector housing and uses authentic OEM connectors rather than aftermarket components. The TNVC-ABCA is available in both 6” and 8” cable lengths to accommodate a wide range of helmet mounting and cable routing configurations (custom cable lengths available via special order).

The TNVC ANVS to BNVS Cable Adapter will retail for $224.95, or with the AB Night Vision LPBP-GO and TNVC Mohawk MK 2 Gen. 2 counterweight/battery pack pouch system for $549.95. Available late-Q1 2020.

Dealer and government/agency pricing available. For all product inquiries or retail or dealer sales, please contact sales@tnvc.com. For military, agency, or government sales, please contact govsales@tnvc.com
