High-Capacity Ammunition Carriage System

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

The Army developed he “new” High-Capacity Ammunition Carriage System in 45 days for use by troops in Operation Enduring Freedom. As soon as I saw it I raised an eyebrow. Unfortunately, it already existed in the form of the MICO from Tyr Tactical. The MICO was developed on Tyr’s own dime and debuted about a year ago. If time was of the essence, it sounds like the Army wasted 45 days to redevelop a commercial product that already existed.

Since we haven’t actually seen the High-Capacity Ammunition Carriage System, it might work entirely differently from the MICO. For instance the MICO uses a dedicated frame while the Government model attaches to a Down East frame. However, conceptually, they work the same way. Granted, it’s been done before to varying degrees of success, but something had to inspire the idea. We have been at war for nine years and no one asked for this until now? Was there at the very least some outside inspiration? Take a look at both versions and you be the judge.

But then again, maybe they were just inspired by Hollywood.

Naw…I’m not buying it either. If anyone in Government ever questions why Industry has animosity toward them, this might just be a good place to start.

Good on Kit Up! for breaking this story.

High Ground Gear Modular Pack with Quick-Release Waistbelt

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Here’s another cool product we’ve been sitting on for awhile now. We like High Ground Gear’s innovative designs. This one is a releasable waistbelt for their HG830 Modular Pack. This allows you to rapidly ditch your pack without removing the belt. This is particularly handy if you are using it to carry your pistol and other survival gear.

The HG830 Modular Pack incorporates several unique features. The rigid frame is designed specifically to be worn over body armor and integrates an internal pocket in the lower back of the frame will hold 4 ergonomic mag-pouch inserts (5.56 or 7.62). The shoulder straps feature cable-routing designed to collect the clutter of hydration hoses and cables to keep you from getting snagged. Additionally, the internal hydration pocket accepts most 2 to 3 Liter hydration bladders without bulging into your back plate. Finally, the frame’s ample PALS webbing field allows it be configured for a wide variety of applications.

The waistbelt is easily cut-away but the best way to see how this releasable waistbelt works is to watch this video.

Available in MultiCam, UCP, Coyote, Black, and Ranger Green. The waistbelt is offered in two sizes, Large and X-Large.

Kifaru Cargo Panel

Friday, June 24th, 2011

Coming soon, the Kifaru Cargo Panel was designed to be used with their Duplex Frame as well as all of their packs from the Express on up.

There are three different adjustable height options. The compression straps are removable and there are three for each side with multiple attachment points. This allows you to use up to three straps on each side and arranged at any angle you want depending on the load. Additionally, there are two options to carry it when not in use. On the Duplex Frame packs, it can be attached to the frame and then sandwiched between the frame and bag or, it can also be rolled up and cinched down on itself.

Here you can see it in use. The adjustability is really going to shine with this one.

FREE Mission Go Bag from SOTech for SOF Personnel!

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

Well, it’s not free to you directly from SOTech, but Uncle Sam has already paid for them and they are sitting at Lexington Bluegrass Army Depot (SOFSA) just waiting for your Supply NCO to order them! We were surprised to go out to the field and talk with SOF Operators who want the gear, but have no idea that SOCOM has already purchased it and it collects dust waiting for your unit to get around to ordering it. And it’s not just the SOTech Mission Go Bag, the entire BALCS backpack system is available including packs from Mystery Ranch and Granite Gear Tactical. Who knows what other great gear is waiting for your unit while your supply guy plays World of Warcraft. So if you belong to a SOCOM unit (only), march into your supply office and demand that they order the BALCS SOF Pack Suite Contract # W911QY-07-D-0013, especially the Mission Go Bag NSN: 8465-01-557-1565. It makes a great E&E or just day to day bag. Plus it is pretty versatile and can be mounted/worn 12 different ways. If you want to customize it, SOTech has developed a series of inserts for different mission sets including SERE, Breacher, Sniper, Laptop (RECCE), and Medical.

This is the real deal guys and there’s only one catch. You have to get your supply guy to order them.

Kelty MAP 3500 MultiCam Available for Preorder

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Almost a decade ago, the Special Operations (SOF) community requested a new and improved assault pack prompting Amron International to approach pack manufacturer Kelty. Designed and engineered with the help of direct military end-user input and feedback, the MAP 3500 was born becoming a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution for a sturdy and functional Military Assault Pack (MAP).

Based on customer feedback Amron is introducing the popular MAP3500 in MultiCam® to accompany the six standard solid colors (Anaconda Green, Black, Coyote Tan, Desert Tan, Foliage Green, and Ocean Grey). Preorders are being accepted now with deliveries beginning in August 2011.

I can tell you that I purchased mine in 2002 and used it for many years as a my day to day pack. In fact, it was later passed down to one of my kids and has been used for a wide variety of duties. It’s still a great pack to this day despite a little wear and tear around the edges. It will serve you for years to come.

To Preorder the new MultiCam® pack for only $119.95 with free UPS ground freight within the continental US from now through 31 July at tactical.amronintl.com. Regular price is $159.00.
