ATS Tactical Announces Cobra 2.6 in Wolf Grey

Friday, September 27th, 2013

Cobra 2-6 main

ATS Tactical has released their popular Cobra 2.6 in Wolf Grey, their first product in that color but eventually the entire line will be offered in Wolf. Also you might take not of the model number. Because of custom runs of this pack for specialized customers and expanded commercial offerings, it became necessary to differentiate the packs. The Cobra 2.5 is the original, slick front pack design. Cobra 2.6 are variations with the shock cord daisy chain on the face. There will also be offerings under the name Cobra 2.7 Custom that will be sprint runs of five or more packs with variations to the design. As long as ATS can source the material, they can build that pack run. Retail price has not been set yet, but ATS expects it will be very close to the current retail price of the 2.5 series of $152.25. They will go live at www.atstacticalgear.com early next week.

Sure, the TAG Knap Sack Go Bag is simple, but sometimes that’s what you need. And I can see myself using it for lots of things like toting my swim gear, carrying my shoes for travel, storing my helmet (but not after I’ve had my shoes in it) or any of a myriad of other ideas. It’s made from LiteLok in MultiCam.

DSEi – Mystery Ranch

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

When Dana Gleason launched Mystery Ranch in 2000, he began to bring production back to the US in order to regain control. Quickly, he began to realize that military and firefighters were more demanding of their equipment than the average user. One thing Dana loves is a challenge and that’s why you saw such a focus at MR on the Soldier. Dana related to me that the more he worked with them, the more deserving he felt they were as customers.

Mystery Ranch has dedicated production at historic Clark Field, Republic of the Philippines to produce packs and other products for those customers who do not require full Berry Compliance such as international clients. For example, the Australian Army issues packs made at Clark Field. The Philippines have long been a US Ally and the production facility has certainly risen to the challenge of manufacturing military grade packs. One challenge that exists is that the gear must be interchangeable no matter where it is produced. For example, a country may purchase some packs produced at Clark Field directly from MR and then purchase additional packs through FMS that are made in Montana. They have to be completely compatible with interchangeable parts and MR works hard to ensure this capability.

20130910-110603.jpg

While most of the materials are Made in USA, this new offshore production opens some new opportunities. For example, some materials are not available in the US. Not only can they bemused in the production of these foreign produced packs but it can serve as an opportunity to identify new technologies to bring back into the US. Although, it’s important to note that all special projects remain at the home office.

Most importantly, none of this would be possible if MR hadn’t spent several years perfecting the quality standards and controls to produce consistently in multiple locations. Ranchers are on location at all MR production facilities both in the US as well as at Clark Field to provide a guiding hand in all aspects of production. For you the customer, it won’t matter where your pack was built so long as it came from Mystery Ranch.

This new, additional Mystery Ranch production seems to be a big hit at this international show. Already, MR packs have been adopted by a wide variety of international SOF and general purpose forces customers. Remember, this in no way affects US production which remains full speed ahead. Rather, this Philippine production move has made Mystery Ranch competitive for international tenders.

DSEi – Arc’teryx LEAF

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

We’ve pretty much covered all of Arc’teryx LEAF’s current offerings but one thing caught my eye.

The Khard series of packs were designed from the outset to accept organizers and inserts. But so far, I’ve never seen anything like this. Outside of Vancouver, there is only one place that is allowed to repair Arc’teryx items and that is Urs Maretz of Outdoor Repair in Uster, Switzerland. Urs doesn’t do many LEAF repairs but he does make modifications to gear for European customers. This is one of his projects.

20130910-102652.jpg

Urs produced this prototype Kydeyx pack board insert. In its current form it’s come a bit of a way from this initial model but it still incorporates slots for tied downs. In this case they are using ski ties. The insert connects around the internal daisy chains via a bolt system so this thing isn’t going anywhere. You may also notice a Kydex 40mm insert that accepts 6 rounds.

I think this concept is going to spur a new wave of inserts for the Khard pack.

Arc’teryx LEAF products are available in the UK from Edgar Brothers.

They simplified and refined the design of the M24P from their original “moose” pack line, providing a basic but tough pack that meets the needs of professionals in law enforcement and military and civilians alike. The M24P is large enough for sustainment gear, extra ammunition, medical supplies, and other gear for a rapid deployment, yet small enough to provide versatile storage options. The MP24 is constructed of 1000 Denier nylon, and features padded shoulder straps. The internal compartment has two large mesh pockets that can fit a large armor plate. The M24P is available both with and without exterior PALS webbing, and in solid colors and camouflage patterns. The packs will be sold exclusively through SKD Tactical for a limited time.

‘Snacktical’ Pack

Monday, September 2nd, 2013

Ok, the Tactical Medical Backpack from T3 isn’t a “Snacktical” Pack, but its inherent storage features would certainly make a great picnic basket.

20130902-123017.jpg

It includes four pull out color coded removable pouches as well as smaller pockets, pouches and elastic loops for storing a variety of instruments, bandages, and dressings. It is large enough for a lightweight, poleless litter/poncho and is equipped with packable padded shoulder straps.

Additional PALS pouches on the outside accommodate both 1000ml and 500ml IV bags; quick disconnect straps allow the bag to be easily strapped into a vehicle and disconnected.
