In addition to the MAWL-DA’s selection by the GIGN, other units in France, and other European SOF units have adopted it for use in their respective operations.

The GIGN is the elite Police Tactical Unit of the French National Gendarmerie. Its missions include counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, surveillance of national threats, protection of government officials, and targeting organized crime. It is renowned for its selection and implementation of innovative technology and tactics, using a comprehensive suite of both small arms solutions, and weapon enabling systems. The unit’s selection of the MAWL-DA as a tool for mission success is notable in light of the GIGN’s pedigree, and reputation as a premiere SOF unit. B.E. Meyers & Co. looks forward to the MAWL-DA’s service with the GIGN as NIR/VIS pointing and illumination system which will assist in the unit’s response to both domestic and international threats.

The MAWL-DA (Modular Advanced Weapon Laser – Direct Action) is a high-power infrared and visible green aiming and illumination laser for individual carbines. Offering improved ergonomics, interface, and performance, the MAWL-DA has been designed from the ground up around the needs of the modern night fighter.

Engineered to address the shortcomings of common laser devices in use with both military and law enforcement, the MAWL® incorporates cutting edge VCSEL technology which eliminates the current problem of inconsistent and granular, speckled illumination. This unparalleled beam quality is leveraged with multiple modes of divergence and power, based on the ideal settings for any operational environment: Close Range, Mid Range, or Long Range.

Salomon Announces Upgraded XA Forces Mid GTX Shoe

Monday, January 8th, 2018

Although originally designed as a trail runner, the XA Forces Mid has become the heavy lifter in the Salomon Forces line due to its lightweight construction which offers a great deal of ankle support and foot stability.

When the Forces line first launched, they took commercial footwear which were popular with military and LE customers and essentially gave them a new paintjob. What they found over the past few years is that the Forces customer subjects the shoes to situations that they were not originally designed for. After analyzing the returns, Salomon designers embarked on a significant upgrade to this popular shoe. In a rare peek into the design process, Salmon shared this drawing with us. The final product differs slightly.

There are specific issues which have been addressed. For instance, they’ve introduced the same material used in the Quest 4D. Additionally, they changed the construction to introduce double and even triple stitching. They’ve also eliminated overlaps of fabric wherever possible because thenedges of fabric was getting caught while riding Quads and separating.

Finally, Solomon improved the sole and introduced a wider toe box.

The XA Forces Mid is available with or without a Gore-Tex lining in US sizes U.S. 4.5 to 12.5, plus 13.5 and 14 in Black, Coyote and Ranger Green (GTX version only).

Below is their full press release.

Improved strength, durability the focus in this key Forces range model

Salomon has revealed a new, upgraded XA Forces Mid GTX shoe, the centerpiece of the brand’s Forces range. If you liked the brand’s XA Pro Mid, the earlier version of this shoe, you will appreciate the improvements made to the new XA Forces Mid GTX. Available beginning January 2018, it features several improvements over its predecessor, which was the very first shoe that the brand developed specifically for military use. In the GORE-TEX® version, it will be available in black, coyote brown and ranger green. The shoe is also available in a non-GORE-TEX® version offering a more breathable variant. The non-GORE-TEX® version is available in black and coyote brown.

Now in unisex models (available in half sizes from U.S. 4.5 to 12.5, plus 13.5 and 14.5), the design goal of the XA Pro Mid GTX was to improve strength and durability. It will use the same fabric found on the Quest 4D Boot, which is four times more durable compared to the previous fabric when it comes to tear strength, and has been put to the test in the lab and on deployment. To make it stronger, the shoe now has a single-layer construction, reducing the overlapping of materials. Formerly a single stitched shoe, the new version has double and triple stitching for stronger seem construction.

The outsole also has a more durable design. A new layer adds to the sole’s thickness and additional rubber with deeper lugs provides more contact with the ground. A break in the design of the heel helps with climbing, while a rubber pad on the medial side of the shoe aids in protection. The toebox has also been made slightly roomier than in the previous version.

Ascendant Advisory Group’s Mergers and Acquisitions Division is pleased to announce that ZRODELTA of Lubbock, Texas has merged with Critical Capabilities of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
ZRODELTA is a leader in the field of precision firearms and accessory manufacturing, employing patented technologies that improve the modularity, accuracy, and performance of a wide spectrum of OEM products throughout the small arms industry. ZRODELTA is best known for its DLOC reflex and variable power optics mounts, HEAD-S adapter for tripods, DCLW tripod shooting platform, and Cowl Induction Muzzle Break. During 2017, the company’s patented DLOC mounting system—the industry’s first true return-to-zero, non-marring rail mounting solution—was recognized by many as the new industry standard for optical mounting solutions due to its repeatability with as little as hand tightened torque. The platform has since been adopted by most major OEM optics manufacturers.

Critical Capabilities is best known for its OEM supply-chain management solutions. With manufacturing distributed across the United States, the company has excelled at linking out-of-industry manufacturing capability and capacity with OEM production requirements, with a special emphasis on improving quality, margins, and cash flow. As Critical’s founder and former Green Beret Pat Harrigan explains, “To us, it’s not just about putting parts on the production floors of our clients. It’s about exploring a better way to do business—from raw material sourcing, production methodologies and procedures, logistics and WIP post-processing, staffing, distribution opportunities, and even financing. In short, the more successful and efficient our clients are at each level of business, the more successful we will be.” This approach has worked well for Harrigan, who estimates that 15% of the AR15s on dealer shelves across the United States contain parts from Critical Capabilities.

“Our partnership is a natural fit for both companies,” says ZRODELTA president John Birk. “This merger allows us to vertically integrate high-volume production and distribution, innovate, and provide better products and services to our OEM clients that will improve their quality, organizational efficiency, and bottom line.”

The merger also includes Critical’s UnBrandedAR.com, an e-commerce portal which provides bulk OEM AR-15 parts to a network of nearly 1000 dealers across the United States. UnBrandedAR provides products to select retailers who desire to offer brand-less or house-branded products. The company has a wide range of marking capabilities and customizes products for clients both big and small.

Both companies will operate as ZRODELTA, with OEM production and sales falling under ZRO OEM Services. UnBrandedAR will continue to operate as UnBrandedAR.com.

AeroVironment Announces Joint Venture and Solar High-Altitude Long-Endurance Unmanned Aircraft System Development Program

Thursday, January 4th, 2018

MONROVIA, Calif., Jan. 3, 2018 – AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for both defense and commercial applications, today announced the formation of a joint venture to develop solar-powered high-altitude long-endurance, or HALE, UAS for commercial operations. This category of UAS is also referred to as high-altitude pseudo-satellites, or HAPS. The joint venture will fund the development program up to a net maximum value of $65,011,481.

The joint venture, HAPSMobile, Inc., is a Japanese corporation that is 95 percent funded and owned by Japan-based telecommunications operator SoftBank Corp. and 5 percent funded and owned by AeroVironment, Inc. AeroVironment is committed to contribute $5 million in capital for its 5 percent ownership of the joint venture, and has an option to increase its ownership stake in HAPSMobile up to 19 percent at the same cost basis as its initial 5 percent purchase.

“This is a historic moment for AeroVironment. For many years, we have fully understood the incredible value high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aircraft platforms could deliver to countless organizations and millions of people around the world through remote sensing and last mile, next generation IoT connectivity,” said Wahid Nawabi, AeroVironment chief executive officer. “We were searching for the right strategic partner to pursue this very large global opportunity with us. Now we believe we are extremely well-positioned to build on the decades of successful development we have performed to translate our solar UAS innovations into long-term value through HAPSMobile, Inc. Our entire team is excited, and we look forward to transforming this strategic growth opportunity into reality.”

AeroVironment pioneered the concept of high-altitude solar-powered UAS in the 1980s, and developed and demonstrated multiple systems for NASA’s Environmental Research Aircraft and Sensor Technology, or ERAST program, in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In August 2001, the AeroVironment Helios prototype reached an altitude of 96,863 feet, setting the world-record for sustained horizontal flight by a winged aircraft. In 2002, the AeroVironment Pathfinder Plus prototype performed the world’s first UAS telecommunications demonstrations at 65,000 feet by providing high-definition television (HDTV) signals, third-generation (3G) mobile voice, video and data and high-speed internet connectivity. Multiple United States government agencies funded the development of the hybrid-electric Global Observer unmanned aircraft system from 2007 through 2011. Global Observer represents a solution for extended operation over high Northern and Southern latitudes during local winters, when the sun’s energy is insufficient to maintain continuous solar aircraft operation at high altitude.

SoftBank Corp. and AeroVironment, Inc. have agreed to license certain background intellectual properties to HAPSMobile, which will own the newly developed UAS intellectual property and possess exclusive rights for commercial applications globally, and non-commercial applications in Japan. AeroVironment will possess exclusive rights to the resulting intellectual property for certain non-commercial applications, except in Japan. AeroVironment will also possess exclusive rights to design and manufacture all such aircraft in the future for HAPSMobile, subject to the terms of the Joint Venture Agreement.

For additional information, please see AeroVironment’s Form 8-K, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on January 3, 2018.

Alpine Innovations – ScopeSlicker NX

Thursday, January 4th, 2018

LEHI UT, January 22nd, 2018 – ScopeSlicker NX is the last scope cover you’ll ever need. Made by Alpine Innovations, ScopeSlicker NX employs a simple yet effective method to keep it from falling off. While other scope covers end up missing in the field, ScopeSlicker NX not only stays where you put it, but offers innovative cleaning features found on no other scope cover.

ScopeSlicker NX is designed with 2 retaining bands that fit under the optic to keep it secure on top of the optics while scoping. When you need to cover your optics, flip both ends of the scope cover down, and your ScopeSlicker stays protected from the elements.

“We knew we could improve upon what is on the market,” says Darren Jones, CEO and designer of Alpine’s products. “We’ve heard that hunters were losing their scope covers while hunting in thick terrain. The last thing you want to do is damage or scratch your expensive optics. Now you no longer have to keep buying scope covers that fall off while you hunt. ”

The .5mm neoprene design includes two handy finger pocket microfiber cleaning cloths, one on each end of the scope cover, to keep your optics free from smudges and dust. The ScopeSlicker NX also has the ability to fit a wider range of the most commonly used scope sizes, ranging from 12″ to 17″ in the regular size, to 14″ to 20″ in the large size. ScopeSlicker NX’s flexible fit even accommodates scopes with high turrets, so it’s sure to fit your preferred optic.
