SIG SAUER Expands its 9mm FMJ Ammunition Offerings

Wednesday, May 10th, 2017

Newington, NH (May 9, 2017) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to announce the expansion of its 9mm full metal jacket (FMJ) Elite Performance Ammunition offerings with the addition of 124gr and 147gr bullet weights. With these new rounds, SIG customers now have three 9mm bullet weights – 115gr, 124gr and 147gr – available in both the V-Crown® jacketed hollow point (JHP) personal defense ammunition and the SIG FMJ target loads.

The perfect combination of affordability and performance, the SIG FMJ ball ammunition is designed to approximate the performance of the corresponding JHP loads, making a seamless transition from target ammo to carry ammo. The copper-coated lead bullets in the SIG FMJ ammunition were engineered to have the most precise, uniform profile, resulting in consistent accuracy.

“SIG FMJ ammunition is designed specifically for practice and competition shooting, and given the sheer popularity of the 9mm caliber, expanding the FMJ line to mirror the V-Crown offerings was an important next step,” said Dan Powers, President of the SIG SAUER Ammunition Division. “These premium target rounds feed as smoothly as our V-Crown JHP rounds and perform and feel almost identical to the V-Crown loads when shooting, making them ideal practice rounds.”

Manufactured to meet or exceed SAAMI specifications, the SIG FMJ centerfire pistol cartridges feature solid brass cases and durable copper jacketed bullets that stay with the lead at impact. Dependable primers and clean-burning powders are used for reduced barrel fouling and more reliable functioning. All SIG SAUER Elite Performance Ammunition is manufactured by SIG SAUER at its new ammunition manufacturing facility in Jacksonville, Arkansas to the same exacting standards as the company’s premium pistols and rifles. AeroVironment, Developer of the Nano Hummingbird, Unveils Snipe, A New, Stealthy Nano Quadrotor UAS

Tuesday, May 9th, 2017

-Launched from the palm of a hand, Snipe™ is worn on operators’ clothing so it can spring into action immediately – first 20 systems delivered in April
-Difficult to detect, Snipe provides close-range intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR)
-Simple to use and requires no assembly; operates in challenging and rugged environmental conditions
-Builds on breakthrough robotic Nano Hummingbird developed by AeroVironment for DARPA

DALLAS, at AUVSI XPONENTIAL, May 9, 2017 – AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for both military and commercial applications, today officially unveiled the new Snipe Nano Quad, a miniature (“Class 0”) and field-rugged unmanned aircraft system designed to support close-range intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. The first U.S. government customer delivery of 20 Snipe systems took place in April.

“Snipe’s tiny size belies its impressive capabilities,” said Kirk Flittie, AeroVironment vice president and general manager of its Unmanned Aircraft Systems business segment. “It is quick, quiet, fast, durable and packed with advanced features critical to helping our customers succeed in close-range missions.”

“Snipe enables operators to spring into action quickly,” Flittie said. “No assembly is required for the five-ounce (140-gram) nano-UAS, which is designed to be worn by its operator so it can be deployed in less than a minute.”

Equipped with electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR), low-light-capable and long-wave infrared (LWIR) sensors in an integrated tilt mechanism, Snipe can relay high-resolution images and record real-time video both day and night. In addition, Snipe’s integrated UHF radio provides for excellent non-line-of-sight operation. The software-defined radio (SDR) allows Snipe to be sold commercially.

With its quiet electric motors, flight speeds exceeding 20 mph and more than one-kilometer range, Snipe is difficult to detect in operating environments with even minimal ambient noise. Its rechargeable batteries power approximately 15 minutes of flight time. Despite its small size, the durable nano-UAS is capable of operating under challenging environmental conditions – including winds of 15+ mph with gusts up to 20 mph

“While Snipe’s stealthiness makes it ideally suited for military applications, it’s an invaluable asset for anyone needing a ‘Class 0’ UAS to support their missions,” Flittie said.

Snipe is controlled using an intuitive app on a standard, ruggedized (MIL-STD 810) touch screen controller with intuitive user interface and automated operation for ease of use. Other critical functions include Snipe’s ability to return to its operator automatically if it loses its radio link.

Snipe benefits from advances in nano unmanned technology achieved by the company in its development of the internationally recognized Nano Hummingbird. “The Nano Hummingbird, the world’s first unmanned aircraft capable of propulsion and control using two flapping wings, is an example of how our breakthrough innovation has spawned a valuable new capability in Snipe that now will help our customers proceed with certainty,” added Flittie.

AeroVironment’s Snipe Nano Quadrotor will be available to order Fall 2017. Operator training requires four hours only.

Taurus USA Introduced The T4SA Rifle at NRAAM

Monday, May 8th, 2017

Taurus USA introduced its new AR-style rifle at NRAAM called the T4SA. It seems an odd time to release an AR, considering the current market glut.

IMG_1207

However, they’ve treated the weapon’s critical components with Melonite and displayed a rifle that had fired over 6,500 rounds with no lubricant.

Additionally, they are offering variants featuring Jungle Green and Sand Cerakote.

Below is their press release.

Based on the iconic M4 platform, the Taurus T4SA is a lightweight, gas-impingement 5.56 mm semi-automatic carbine that was engineered and manufactured entirely in the United States.

Features include a forged upper receiver 1913 rail that includes “T” Mark reference points for convenient mounting and reattaching of accessories. It comes standard with a lightweight, low-profile KeyMod or M-LOK aluminum handguard.

Additionally, the Taurus T4SA utilizes an M16-style bolt carrier, which reduces the recoil pulse during firing. The barrel is chambered in 5.56 NATO and fires both 5.56 and .223 Rem. ammunition. The 1:7″ twist, chromoly barrel utilizes the Melonite process on all interior and exterior surface areas, rendering it corrosion resistant and easy to clean.

The T4SA has a dual pinned Melonite low-profile gas block that replaces standard fixed front sight post gas blocks—reducing overall weight and allowing handguards to extend unimpeded past the gas block.

The forged lower receiver is equipped with a Magpul grip with internal storage and a Magpul oversized trigger guard and all fire control parts are manufactured to MIL-SPEC standards. It also includes a MIL-SPEC buffer tube, recoil spring, H2 buffer and a staked castle nut.

The T4SA also features a lightweight, six-position Magpul CTR buttstock with a no-snag triangle shape. The buttstock comes standard with right and left side Quick Disconnect (QD) attachment points as well as slots for use with standard slings and/or sling cords. It will accommodate most major sling designs and features a shock-absorbing buttstock pad to reduce felt recoil and provide a non-slip surface for positive contact between the carbine and operator.

Altama’s OTB Maritime Assault  Boot Wins NAUMD’s Best Footwear Innovation Award

Sunday, May 7th, 2017

THE MOST ANTICIPATED TACTICAL FOOTWEAR OF 2017

OTB Maritime Assault Boot, Winner of NAUMD’s Best Footwear Innovation Award

img_8743.jpg

Morristown, TN – May 5, 2017 Since its first public appearance at SHOT Show this past January, the Altama OTB Maritime Assault boot has been widely discussed at tactical gear shows worldwide. The OTB Maritime Assault Boot was designed specifically to replace the old school canvas style shoes commonly used by Navy SEALs during OTB operations. At first glance, the OTB Maritime Assault Boot looks like a typical sneaker, however closer review will show what makes the shoe worthy of elite operators.

Strategically placed drainage ports at the forefoot flex points of the boot helps water drain immediately after exiting the body of water. The water friendly materials feature low absorption and faster dry times. The SEAL rubber sticky outsoles allow for extra grip on slick surfaces and full length one piece ABS shank provides stability and support – making it easier to climb caving ladders. The slim design is specifically for the boots to fit into dive fins used by militaries worldwide. Inevitably, the OTB Maritime Assault has already adopted the nickname “Combat Chucks.”

“We are honored that our boot won the Best Footwear Innovation Award at NAUMD. We want the OTB Maritime Assault Boot to be known as the most badass sneaker in the world,” said Kevin Cole, CEO of the The Original Footwear Co. The OTB Maritime Assault will be released in low cut and mid height versions. The boots will initially be available in Black, Coyote and Original Multicam®. Cole said, “We’ll be releasing more colors at a later date.”

Customers can expect to the OTB Maritime Assault boots on shelves and online beginning in August, 2017.
