Ops-Core Armored Mandibles And Visors Now Available For Direct Order Via eCommerce

Thursday, December 15th, 2016

First available in early 2015, the Ops-Core Sentry and ACH Mandibles and Visors are now more broadly available through Ops-Core’s ecommerce website. Using a unique system design, the mandible and visor combine to provide full-face protection for Ops-Core Sentry Helmets, and ACH style helmets, including certain Gentex Tactical Ballistic Helmets (TBH) using an Ops-Core Upgrade Kit. Unique features of the mandibles include a front vent that prevents fogging and a folding mechanism for easy storage.

Ops-Core Sentry Visor and Mandible shown separately as well as on an Ops-Core Sentry Helmet.

Development of the Ops-Core Sentry Mandible and Visor started as a response to a U.S. government solicitation in 2013. The Program Office was looking for a Maxillofacial System (MFS) that could be worn in conjunction with a visor for complete eye and face protection. The Ops-Core Design Team learned from user feedback trials that dismounted infantry would resist adopting a rigid mandible due to the impediment it created to rifle sighting. This drove the Design Team to pursue two MFS paths: a flexible mandible for dismounted infantry that allowed for rifle sighting (the Ops-Core Gunsight Mandible) and a rigid mandible for mounted infantry manning turret guns (the Ops-Core Sentry Mandible and Visor).

While there wasn’t an Ops-Core MFS product at that time, the Ops-Core Design Team did obtain user input on competitors’ MFS products, which revealed tremendous frustration with existing solutions. Rigid mandibles were typically a one-piece static design that did not allow for exhaled breath to be vented out of the system. This consistently caused fogging on the visor and therefore rendered the product ineffective. In addition, these one piece static designs were typically as wide as a helmet and difficult to stow in a ruck sack.

Unique patented hinge front system on the Ops-Core Sentry Mandible provides natural ventilation, which greatly reduces lens fogging, while increasing user comfort.

The Ops-Core Design Team responded to these issues by creating a hinged MFS system that provided two benefits: 1) the hinge at the front of the mandible provided a critical exit for exhaled breath and a critical intake for inhaled breath so that the visor would not fog up; 2) the hinge allowed the mandible to fold up so that it could be easily stowed in a ruck sack and take up as little storage space as possible. The Design Team took MFS thinking one step further by creating a visor that attaches edge to edge on the mandible to create a sealed system, protecting the user from dust and debris.

Ops-Core Sentry Mandible is ideal for exposed vehicle crewmen. Shown here in use on a HMMWV turret.

From its inception, the use of the Ops-Core Sentry Mandible has matured and expanded beyond what the Ops-Core Design Team had originally intended. Designed for defense and law enforcement use, the Sentry Mandible is ideal for exposed vehicle crewmen. When used in conjunction with the Ops-Core Sentry Helmet, the Sentry Mandible creates a full-face ballistic helmet. The Sentry Mandible meets RTP 9mm protection requirements at 1400 FPS and the 17grain V50 requirement at 1800 FPS.

The Sentry Mandible is also a great choice for crowd and riot control. In 2016, the Sentry Mandible was chosen from a broad field of competitors to protect law enforcement at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. The design quickly gained confidence and traction with the user community, so a second version was produced that fits ACH style helmets, once an Ops-Core Upgrade Kit is added. The Upgrade Kit includes Ops-Core Accessory Rail Connectors (ARCs), which allow for the addition of components such as mandibles and visors. Ops-Core offers almost identical mandible and visor configurations for ACH style helmets, the key difference being the different geometry between Ops-Core Sentry Helmets and the ACH.

SIG Sauer Rifle Stock with Ops-Core Sentry Mandible allows rifle sighting with a rigid mandible.

Mandibles and visors continue to gain popularity with users based on their mission requirements. Not every user will want a rigid mandible because of the rifle-sighting impediment, but innovative solutions like the rifle stock that Sig Sauer has created to work with the Ops-Core Sentry Mandible strives to address this deficiency. The geometry of the rifle stock is shaped to go around the front of the mandible so that the rifle can be correctly sighted.

Given the success of the Ops-Core Sentry Mandible and Visor, different variations of them are currently in development, such as the mandible for the Ops-Core FAST Carbon Helmet, which is expected to be available in early 2017.

Mission Ready’s No-Contact LLC Announces First Order of Riot Shield Covers

Wednesday, December 14th, 2016

VANCOUVER, B.C. – December 13, 2016 – Mission Ready Services Inc. (“Mission Ready” or the “Company”) (TSX-V: MRS) is pleased to announce the initial order of its No-Contact Riot Shield Covers for use in a military application. Developed and fulfilled through the Company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Protect The Force Inc. (“PTF”), the modest sub $9,000 order of 12 units represents the official commercial launch of this now market-ready product.

The No-Contact Shield cover, upon activation, releases a strong electrical pulse and an electrical shock sound and spark that deters an assailant. Similar to stun guns, the No-Contact technology is uniquely engineered into a textile composite that can be applied into any type of shield cover, including riot control and correctional facilities types as well as other form factors.

Requirements for this unique patented technology have been established through a product development effort that was initiated in FY2016 and has resulted in further intellectual property claims being filed by the Company. This order further validates No-Contact as a less than lethal technology that supports the unique mission sets of those who protect us.

The manufacturing of the No-Contact Shield covers will be done at the Company’s PTF Manufacturing Inc. facility in Jacksboro, TN and the key electronic components will be manufactured at the Company’s laboratory in Boston, MA.
Francisco Martinez, CTO states: “This small but fundamentally significant order is a milestone for the Company and the commercialization process. We strive to meet the changing demands being placed on military and law enforcement personnel and we believe this product provides them with another tool to help them successfully complete their mission. In addition to the application for this order, we have developed No-Contact Shield Covers for riot control units and for correctional facilities.”

Magpul and Gibbz Arms Settle Patent Infringement Lawsuit

Wednesday, December 14th, 2016

December 14, 2016 — Magpul Industries Corp. announced today that has settled its patent infringement lawsuit against Gibbens Engineering Group, LLC, a/k/a Gibbz Arms, which was pending in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.

Magpul’s initial complaint asserted that Gibbz Arms infringed three Magpul utility patents by selling the “Gibbz Arms Modular Attachment (GAMA) System.” Magpul’s amended complaint reasserted those utility patents and sought a preemptive declaration that Magpul’s M-LOK® system did not infringe any Gibbz Arms patents. Gibbz Arms’ answer to Magpul’s amended complaint asserted as a defense that the GAMA System did not infringe Magpul’s patents.

The companies settled their dispute on confidential and mutually agreeable terms. Under the terms of the settlement, Gibbz Arms agreed to assign patent rights related to the dispute to Magpul. Adopters and licensees of Magpul’s M-LOK® system continue to have complete freedom to operate without interference, and M-LOK adoption will continue to be available via free license to interested parties.

Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation To Rebrand as ‘American Outdoor Brands Corp.’

Wednesday, December 14th, 2016

smith-and-wesson-logo_0

Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation shareholders have recently voted to change the company’s name to the exceedingly generic ‘American Outdoor Brands Corp.’ This new name change comes in response to SWHC’s increased efforts to diversify their offerings in the overarching outdoor industry, including their acquisition of companies such as Taylor Brands and UST Brands, companies which specialize in knives and tools and survival equipment, respectively. Unsurprisingly, Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation is not completely abandoning the Smith & Wesson brand, which will continue to operate as its firearms division, while the recently acquired Crimson Trace will form at least part of S&W’s electro-optics division.

The name change comes in to effect starting January 1st, 2017, just in time for SHOT Show.

Below is the official press release from Smith & Wesson announcing the change.

Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation Reports Stockholder Vote Results
Holding Corporation Will Become American Outdoor Brands Corporation

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Dec. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation (NASDAQ Global Select: SWHC), today announced that its stockholders have overwhelmingly approved a change to the holding company’s name from Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation to American Outdoor Brands Corporation. The name change does not impact Smith & Wesson Corp., the name of the company’s firearms division, which has legendary roots dating back to 1852 and will remain unchanged. The name change pertains only to the holding corporation that acquired Smith & Wesson in 2001 and now owns Smith & Wesson Corp., Battenfeld Technologies, Inc., and Crimson Trace Corporation, which represent the company’s firearms, manufacturing services, accessories, and electro-optics divisions.

James Debney, President and Chief Executive Officer of Smith & Wesson, said, “We are excited about the results of today’s stockholder vote. We believe that American Outdoor Brands Corporation is a name that truly represents our broad and growing array of brands and businesses in the shooting, hunting, and rugged outdoor enthusiast markets. Looking ahead, and operating as American Outdoor Brands Corporation, we intend to continue building upon our portfolio, focusing on brands and products that best meet the needs and lifestyle of our target consumers.”

The name change will be effective on or about January 1, 2017, at which time the company will adopt the common stock trading symbol “AOBC” for its NASDAQ stock exchange listing.

Considered the most durable and desirable of all leather hides, the O.R.66 in horsehide is an acquisition that is intended to last your lifetime and passed down to your children. Designed and made in California, USA.

The Design and R&D Team at PDW states:

“Some of the PDW Team has been riding for over 30 years. We know very well the value of a leather jacket that you can rely on. Our objective here was to create that one goto leather jacket in your wardrobe.

The 1930s was the “Golden Age of Aviation”, the end of Prohibition, the era of Streamline Moderne, the Great Depression, Big Band and Jazz, the Yankees ruled baseball, and the beginning of WWII. There was value and common sense in well made, durable consumer products and goods. It was during this decade the “Half Belt” style leather jacket was born. A design that is sleek, minimalist and stripped of any superfluous ornament. To create the O.R.66 Jacket, we started with three authentic period examples of this style jacket from the 30s, 40s and 50s, and created our master pattern. Our select American Horween Horsehide is in a very special 2.75oz hide weight, and the tanning method chosen produces a jacket equally at home around town, on a motorcycle, or in a cockpit. The O.R.66 is superior in tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and durability to any cow and steer hide jackets in heavier weight classes. The O.R.66 will break in with use and display its characteristics as unique as the individual who wears it.

Without changing the defining design characteristics and silhouette, we updated this timeless style with a few subtle functional updates. Period USN G1 style wind flap and gusseted bi-swing back were added for those of us who ride, there are 2 leather lined interior Napoleon pockets taken from custom leather jackets made for Federal Agents that can withstand holding backup pieces, a zippered “hide-away” pocket in the back of the collar for a spare cuff key to bug out cash, and a rich, deep red nylon sateen lining popular with riding jackets from the days of Rockers and the legendary Ace Cafe.”

The PDW O.R.66 Jacket will be available on Wednesday, Dec 14, 2016 at 1:00pm PST via their website, prometheusdesignwerx.com.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2016

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado (November 14, 2016) – TALON Grips introduces Moss colored rubber grips to their industry leading line of adhesive backed firearm grips.

Moss is the first custom colored rubber grip added to the TALON Grips line. The new color enables TALON Grips users to customize the look of their firearms while improving their interface with the firearm for better performance.

All TALON Grips firearm specific grip designs will be available in Moss. The new product rollout will be graduated by brand to allow for production time. Initially the grips will be available directly from TALON Grips. Moss grips will be available to TALON Retailers beginning February 1, 2017.

The introduction of Moss is the result of customer demand. Flat Dark Earth (FDE) and Olive Drab (OD) are preferred colors in tactical and military circles which has driven demand in the private sector. With many manufacturers producing FDE and OD firearms, Moss is TALON Grips answer to the popularity of FDE.

“This is a project that has been in the works for several years, and we are excited to introduce Moss grips to our line. Our team did an unbelievable job stepping up to each challenge and exceeding every expectation. We believe the teamwork resulted in a product that lives up to our, and more importantly, our customers’ expectations, it is like nothing else on the market,” said Mike Morris, President of TALON Grips. He continued, “Sure, Moss TALON Grips looks great on FDE and OD firearms and it looks even better on black.”

TALON Grips received numerous samples of FDE, OD, Tan, and Grey from leading firearm manufacturers throughout the development of the new Moss color. TALON Grips Moss is not intended to match any particular manufacturer’s version of FDE. “Our goal was to create a color that would complement as many manufacturers’ color interpretations as possible. “We tested the color alongside most major manufacturers FDE and OD and believe customers will be as pleased with the color combinations as we are,” said Michael Morris.

With the introduction of the new color grips TALON Grips will be expanding its offerings from over 400 products to over 600 products.
