Introducing the Second Generation of Lindnerhof’s PA Magazine Pouch Series

Monday, January 15th, 2024

LENGGRIES, GERMANY (12 January 2024) – Lindnerhof-Taktik today introduced the second generation of the PA Magazine Pouch Series.

These updated products come with a wide range of enhancements and adjustments to meet current industry standards. Some of the key innovations include a redesigned construction, alpha tabs on all pouches instead of sewn-on pull handles, and the convenience of adjusting or removing the elastic cord strap on the outside of the pouch without disassembling it.

To improve functionality, the back of the pouches now features MX material with laser-cut slots and slim 20mm PALS straps. This not only reduces the weight of the pouches by approximately 5-10%, but also allows easier mounting, especially on reinforced systems like the Curv belts, compared to the previous 25mm strap.

The pouches with an external MOLLE/PALS system for attaching additional pouches (except for PA004 & PA158) have been upgraded with 20mm straps. This change not only reduces weight compared to the previously used 25mm straps, but also creates a more cohesive look when used with modern systems like the LT042/II plate carrier from Lindnerhof.

Additionally, Lindnerhof-Taktik has made some improvements to the color matrix in order to achieve a more attractive appearance. Previously, the 3fb and 5fb flecktarn versions featured single-colored MOLLE/PALS straps, such as stonegrey on the 5fb flecktarn variant. In the second generation of PA Magazine Pouches, the straps have been replaced with camouflage ones that perfectly match the pattern.

The new generation of the PA Magazine Pouch Series offers a variety of models, including magazine pouches and panels for rifles such as the HK417, multi-caliber pouches, as well as magazine pouches for pistols.

The available models are as follows:

• Double Rifle Magazine Pouch PA001/2

• Single Rifle Magazine Pouch PA002/2

• Double Rifle Magazine Panel PA494/2

• Triple Rifle Magazine Panel PA098/2

• Multicaliber Pouch PA119/II

• Single HK417 Magazine Pouch PA091/2

• Double HK417 Magazine Panel PA093/2

• Single Pistol Mag Pouch PA004-1/II

• Double Pistol Mag Pouch PA004-2/II

• Single MP Magazine Pouch PA158/II

Effective Protection Against Threats from Above: Skyranger 30 Passes an Important Milestone

Sunday, January 14th, 2024

Rheinmetall’s mobile Skyranger 30 air defence system has reached a key milestone on the road to series production. In December 2023, the A1 configuration of the Skyranger 30 underwent a successful testing and live-fire campaign at the Group’s Ochsenboden proving ground in Switzerland, in which the system had to prove itself in stationary and mobile modes.

The Skyranger 30 A1 is a development testbed whose purpose is to pave the way for total system qualification of the Skyranger 30 A3 in mid-2024. The A1’s flexible design enables efficient testing and optimization of multiple customer variants with different radars and effectors. With the Skyranger 30 slated to be introduced soon by several European user nations, this is a major advantage.

As recently as December 2023, Hungary – a NATO and EU member state – contracted with Rheinmetall to develop a concept for a Skyranger 30 turret for the future air defence variant of the Lynx KF41 tracked armoured vehicle.  Two other user nations, Denmark and Germany, also plan to procure the Skyranger 30, which in both cases will be mounted on different wheeled armoured vehicles.

The central component of the Skyranger 30 is the 30mmx173 KCE revolver cannon, whose immense firepower and precision have been impressively demonstrated under the most adverse weather conditions.

The Skyranger 30 A3 will decisively counter current and future aerial threats – including drones – enabling ground troops to focus on their actual mission.  The well-thought-out design of its diverse array of ordnance, high mobility and state-of-the-art sensors enable both autonomous and networked operation. Moreover, the compact design of the turret allows integration into a wide variety of manned and unmanned platforms such as Rheinmetall’s 8×8 Boxer wheeled armoured vehicle. The Skyranger closes the current world wide capability gap in mobile air defence.

Ukrainian Forces are Taking Full Advantage of Their THeMIS UGVs

Sunday, January 14th, 2024

The THeMIS unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) delivered by Milrem Robotics to Ukrainian armed forces in the war with Russia are being taken full advantage of during demining, route clearance, re-supply and other missions according to feedback shared with the company.

“The UGVs delivered to Ukraine are being used to clear areas from anti-tank mines as well as unexploded ordnances (UXOs), transporting equipment to areas that are not accessible with conventional vehicles or where the risk of losing that equipment is high,” said Cpt (res) Jüri Pajuste, in charge of the Ukrainian program in Milrem Robotics, naming a few use-cases based on information gathered from the end-user. “However, the most important benefit comes not from avoiding the loss of equipment but the loss of life,” Pajuste added.

Milrem Robotics delivered 14 THeMIS UGVs to Ukraine. Seven of the systems are intended to carry cargo and for casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) and seven, equipped with payloads from the French CNIM, for route clearance and demining operations.

“Casualty evacuation and route clearance are two labour-intensive activities where soldiers performing these tasks immediately become targets for the enemy. UGVs, on the other hand, can be operated from a distance, keeping the soldiers in a safe location,” Pajuste added.

The THeMIS’ have also been used by engineers to carry anti-tank mines to accelerate mining operations.

“The operators of the UGVs noted that during the bezdorizhzhia, as the muddy season is referred to in Ukrainian, the THeMIS can act as a re-supply vehicle instead of heavy trucks that tend to get stuck. Also, the small size and low height of the UGV makes its discovery by the enemy difficult and that has increased its survivability,“ Pajuste said.

For obvious security reasons, the units using the systems and the deployment locations remain classified.

Milrem Robotics recently signed a cooperation agreement with the Ukrainian Defense Industry (UDI), which consolidates national defence industry companies, that details several development and manufacturing activities between the company and the members of UDI.

According to the agreement, the parties will start strategic cooperation in identifying Ukraine’s requirements and use cases for robotic systems which can enhance the capabilities of Ukraine’s armed units in the ongoing war and after the war.

Thereafter the companies involved will integrate Ukraine’s battlefield experience into Milrem Robotics’ existing robotic and autonomous systems and develop new products to create Ukraine’s manned and unmanned multi-domain capabilities.

Additionally, the parties will investigate manufacturing THeMIS Combat (with HMG and antitank capabilities), Combat Engineering (mine detection and demining), CASEVAC unmanned ground vehicles and other Milrem Robotics’ products in Ukraine.

Milrem Robotics is the leading European robotics and autonomous systems developer and systems integrator, with offices in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands and the US. The company is known for its THeMIS and Multiscope UGVs, the Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle and the MIFIK autonomy kit.

GA-ASI Uses Autonomy to Close F2T2EA Engagement Chain

Thursday, January 11th, 2024

-Avenger Flight Demonstrates Multi-Objective Collaborative Combat Mission

-GA-ASI Combines Skills of Multiple Autonomy Providers to Advance UCAV Ecosystem

SAN DIEGO – 09 January 2024 – General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) demonstrated its rapidly maturing open standards-based autonomy ecosystem for Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles (UCAVs) on an MQ-20 Avenger® as part of a live flight test on Nov. 2, 2023. The flight combined three autonomy providers, government-provided human-machine interface (HMI) hardware, and GA-ASI’s autonomy core to meet multiple objectives for collaborative combat missions and closed the Find, Fix, Track, Target, Engage, and Assess (F2T2EA) engagement chain using a mix of Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) entities.

The flight, which took place from GA-ASI’s Desert Horizon Flight Operations Facility in El Mirage, Calif., illustrates the company’s commitment to maturing its open standards-based autonomy software ecosystem for Autonomous Collaborative Platforms (ACPs). Designing the system around government-owned and -maintained standards avoids vendor lock and allows rapid integration of best-of-breed capabilities in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), HMIs, and other skills from third-party providers.

“This flight underscores GA-ASI’s commitment to proving combat operational readiness for vendor-agnostic autonomy architecture for UCAV platforms,” said GA-ASI Vice President of Advanced Programs Michael Atwood. “Ultimately, GA-ASI’s series of flight tests demonstrate our unmatched ability to deploy best-of-breed mission software, autonomy, and hardware capabilities on unmanned platforms, accelerating the operationalization of this critical technology for the warfighter. This most recent test shows multi-service compatibility of the autonomy core through the integration of USAF and Navy software skills together.”

Another important goal of GA-ASI’s flights is to demonstrate the company’s commitment to developing an open government standards-based autonomy ecosystem that enables rapid integration and validation of third-party tactical software applications. GA-ASI is focused on supporting the emerging App Store-based model that allows organizations to rapidly develop and deploy software while maintaining safety of flight and ensuring warfighters have up-to-date access to the industry’s best capabilities.

Autonomy skills for the recent flight test were provided by GA-ASI, Scientific Systems Company, Inc. (SSCI), and NAVAIR PMA-281’s ARCANE (Architecture and Capabilities for Autonomy in Naval Enterprise) Team. The PMA-281 ARCANE Team accomplishes Intelligent Autonomy & AI integration, compliance, and sustainment objectives for Naval Aviation UAV Tactical Operations. Different skills on the aircraft were activated based on the F2T2EA phase or via human-on-the-loop interaction using the FOX tablet HMI. A government-furnished autonomy core and Open Mission Systems (OMS) messaging protocols were used to coordinate between provider skills during different F2T2EA phases. Rapid integration of these disparate skills was made possible by utilizing government standards, such as OMS, and adhering to state-of-the-art government autonomy design methods.

Collaborative mission autonomy capabilities provided by SSCI successfully commanded a fully autonomous multi-vehicle Defensive Counter Air (DCA) mission—from Combat Air Patrol (CAP) through detection, identification, tracking, and multiple successful engagements.

“Our Collaborative Mission Autonomy (CMA) development kit enables the team to perform development and integration in short time frames in a tactically relevant way,” said David “Heat” Lyons, SSCI’s Vice President of Business Development and former F-16 Weapons Officer and combat fighter pilot. “For the warfighter, we are demonstrating mission-ready behaviors on GA-ASI’s UCAV that are trustworthy, understandable, and explainable.”

GA-ASI provided weapon-target pairing (WTP) and electronic warfare (EW) autonomy skills for the flight. These were developed using GA-ASI’s deep reinforcement learning (RL) framework. The mission skills were activated like play calls in real time, and their status was monitored by the pilot via the FOX tablet.

NAVAIR PMA-281’s ARCANE program delivered a cooperative weave skill, whereby a live lead MQ-20 was paired with a simulated follower MQ-20 to demonstrate a collaborative flight formation technique aimed at increasing survivability. This demonstration showcased the flexibility of GA-ASI’s autonomy core to rapidly integrate third-party best-of-breed skills in support of a wide range of evolving mission types.

Collectively, these skills were integrated into and orchestrated by the government-furnished autonomy core architecture that was enhanced by GA-ASI. The flexibility of the government managed autonomy core software stack enabled rapid and seamless integration of multi-UAS third-party behaviors.
