True Velocity Extends Performance Benefits of ‘Next Gen’ 6.8 TVCM Cartridge to Currently Fielded Weapons

‘Switch-Barrel’ capability offers ballistic advantages beyond NGSW program

GARLAND, TX (June 3, 2021) – Texas-based ammunition manufacturer True Velocity released a video today detailing the performance advantages of its proprietary 6.8 TVCM composite-cased cartridge currently being evaluated by the U.S. Army in its Next Generation Squad Weapons (NGSW) program.

Though True Velocity’s 6.8 TVCM case design was originally optimized for use in the NGSW-Rifle and NGSW-Automatic Rifle submissions designed by General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, the video demonstrates the cartridge’s additional compatibility with currently fielded weapons including the M240B belt-fed machine gun, the M110 semi-automatic sniper system, and the M134 rotary machine gun, or “minigun.” The company refers to this added 6.8 TVCM functionality as its “switch-barrel” capability.

“True Velocity is an American-owned, American-based company that set out with a singular goal in mind, and it was to provide the American warfighter with an unfair advantage on the battlefield,” said Patrick Hogan, True Velocity’s chief sales and marketing officer. “The Next Generation Squad Weapon program has given us the opportunity to do that … Not only do we have this forward-leaning momentum with next-generation capabilities, but we have a plug-and-play application that can be fielded on the battlefield today with weapons that our soldiers are carrying into battle.”

True Velocity’s composite-cased 6.8 TVCM cartridge delivers significant performance and logistical benefits over traditional brass-cased ammunition and currently meets or exceeds all requirements of the NGSW program. The 6.8 TVCM cartridge provides significantly increased muzzle velocity and effective range over the traditional brass-cased 7.62x51mm round, while simultaneously reducing the weight of the cartridge by more than 30 percent and keeping chamber pressures at normal, safe operating levels, a factor that allows for compatibility with currently fielded weapon systems like the M240B.

“You’re talking about something as simple as pulling a barrel off the M240 and replacing it with one that accommodates 6.8 TVCM,” said Hogan, “and, all of a sudden, you’ve increased the effective range of this weapon by more than 50 percent, you’ve reduced the weight of the ammunition by over 30 percent, and you’ve given our soldiers a meaningful advantage on the battlefield.”

The U.S. Army down-selected True Velocity’s composite-cased ammunition in August 2019 for the NGSW modernization program. True Velocity submitted its 6.8mm composite-cased cartridge as part of an overall NGSW weapon system in partnership with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems.

Rheinmetall Delivers the First 25 Boxer 8×8 Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles to the Australian Army

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021

Rheinmetall is pleased to announce the delivery of the first 25 Boxer 8×8 Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRV) to the Australian Army under the $5.2 billion LAND 400 Phase 2 Mounted Combat Reconnaissance Capability project.

Minister for Defence, Hon. Peter Dutton MP visited Rheinmetall Defence Australia’s Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) in Redbank, Queensland, to review the Boxer vehicles.

Rheinmetall will deliver a total of 211 Boxer 8×8 Vehicles in different versions, 131 will be the CRV variant. They will replace the Army’s Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAV) under LAND 400 Phase 2. Delivery of the first 25 vehicles enables Army to continue towards Initial Operating Capability on schedule as Rheinmetall moves into the next phase of the LAND 400 Phase 2 program.

Rheinmetall Defence Australia Managing Director Gary Stewart said Boxer’s levels of survivability and mobility was proving a game changer for Australia’s armoured cavalry.

“Boxer is now enabling the capabilities that allow Army to fight, survive and win on the modern, complex battlefields of today and tomorrow,” Mr Stewart said.

“And Rheinmetall is simultaneously delivering early combat vehicle capability to the Australian Defence Force while creating a sovereign industrial capability in combat vehicle design and manufacture.”

Mr Stewart said delivery of these initial vehicles was only possible by taking advantage of the current production lines in Germany, and using this approach as part of technology transfer activities to ensure Australian workers and suppliers become familiar with manufacturing techniques for highly complex military vehicles.

Rheinmetall Defence Australia has over 30 Australians currently living and working in Germany, working at Rheinmetall sites and learning from German colleagues. This is fostering close co-operation and a genuine partnership to realise the capability for the Australian Army.

“Australian engineers, project managers, welders, technicians, trainers and more are living and working with their colleagues in Germany to build a deep understanding of Rheinmetall products and, crucially, acquire the skills and certifications to transfer this expertise and intellectual property to Australia,” Mr Stewart said.

“This kick-starts the knowledge base for a sovereign Australian capability and is complemented with our engagement with the Australian TAFE sector and universities to ensure we build enduring pathways from our education institutions into the military vehicle manufacturing industry, enabling graduates to understand what we do today so they are ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.”

The MILVEHCOE is the focal point of the Boxer Australian Industry Capability (AIC) program. It is where Rheinmetall will undertake Australian design, manufacture, testing, training and support of the Boxer vehicles and training systems. The MILVEHCOE provides a sovereign facility where Defence, industry and research organisations can innovate and collaborate on the Australian Boxer and other defence programs.

Development, production and integration work is well underway within the MILVEHCOE as plant and equipment is installed and commissioned across the main production facility. This work is a key component of knowledge transfer activities for full rate Boxer production in Australia. This is scheduled to commence in Australia after commissioning of the MILVEHCOE Boxer production line is complete.

This approach to Australian Industry Capability has allowed Rheinmetall to accelerate involvement of Australian companies into the first 25 vehicles. This has resulted in Rheinmetall awarding contracts to more than 20 companies to supply products and services, and ensuring that Australian SMEs are building and supplying components onto every Australian Boxer vehicle.

The Boxer – versatile and battle-tested

The Boxer is a heavily protected 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicle. Its modular architecture enables a variety of variants unmatched by any other vehicle system. This multifaceted diversity underlies the Boxer’s rapid growth. Already today, new variants and upgrades are being planned. To date, some 1,200 vehicles in more than 20 different configurations are under contract by four NATO nations: Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania and the UK. Moreover, Australia – a close partner of NATO – has ordered a total of 211 Boxer vehicle in several different versions, the first of which have now been delivered.

GALLS CEO Mike Fadden Talks Business on NAUMD The Uniformer Podcast

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021

The North-American Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors (NAUMD) Rick Levine, host of The Uniformer Podcast, discusses the passion behind GALLS® new CEO Mike Fadden’s drive to build a company focused on customer service.

Lexington, Ken. (May 2021) – Mike Fadden, CEO of GALLS, LLC®, the leading distributor of uniforms and equipment to public safety agencies, and private label products, joins Rick Levine on the NAUMD podcast The Uniformer on Thursday, May 26, 2021. The Uniformer is a podcast devoted to the companies, teams, and individuals who provide the uniforms, image apparel, and equipment worn by tens of millions of workers across North America.

Nine months into his job as CEO of GALLS, Fadden states he is focused on two things: building a culture that is relentlessly focused on the customer, and second, making GALLS a premier employment destination. “We want to make GALLS the kind of company where when people say, ‘I work for GALLS,’ that they are proud, and that they can puff out their chest a little. When our sales force hits the market, they do with a bit of swagger, because they know they work for the best company in the industry.”

Turning GALLS into an employment destination is a mission already underway at the company. Foremost, as Fadden points out, working at GALLS can be considered a “noble cause.” By serving first responders who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice and take an oath to protect our communities, GALLS employees are obligated to provide their customers with the best possible service, because they earn it every day. As Fadden added, “Our calling is summed up in our mission statement, Proud to Serve Those Who Serve.”

Additionally, Fadden points out the company is active in philanthropy. From sponsoring local community events for first responders to their recent partnership with Fund the First, the nation’s leading verified crowdfunding platform for first responders, military, and medical professionals, to a new major partnership with a charity to be announced in the coming weeks.

Fadden says GALLS is also committed to investing in its employees through a variety of programs from education, training, and incentives to not only attract quality employees, but to help employees build their careers at GALLS.

When asked what he thought the next few years looked like for him and the company, Fadden replied that they are already developing and implementing strategies. An example he used was investing the entire IT budget in five projects that would leverage technology to make the customer experience better. He sees GALLS continuing its growth strategy through a three-pronged approach; first, through strategic and opportunistic acquisitions. The second approach is to increase current customer purchases through industry-leading technologies that provide the customer with a better, faster, smarter experience. And the third approach is to attract new customers by having an outstanding reputation in the industry for service.

Fadden discussed how he sees his executive team solely to support his sales team. With over 80 stores and multiple agencies, the single customer and smaller agency are still more likely to encounter GALLS through its online presence. Mike and his team have been working on reducing the time between when a uniform order comes in to when it goes out the door to no more than three days, a remarkable feat when considering the uniforms are individually decorated.

Wrapping up the 42-minute conversation, Levine asks Fadden what he thinks of today’s challenges for our first responder communities and what it might mean for the community’s future. Fadden responds by saying GALLS is already answering those challenges. In regards to budget constraints, now and possibly in the future, GALLS has created a program that demonstrates how an agency can save money and with that extra money, be able to afford life-saving protection equipment such as body armor and helmets. With vendor partners, all working to keep the rising prices at a minimum, GALLS can help agencies of any size, with procurement processes. Fadden is also committed to making all of the GALLS branch stores a safe, respectful environment for first responders, where they can come in and receive recognition and be treated with dignity.

In a final reflection on the uniform industry, his job as CEO of GALLS and the first responder community, Fadden remains laser-focused on the people who wear the uniform and admits that his best days at work are when he is out with his employees.
