SOD – S.P.01 Shorts

Saturday, August 7th, 2021

I received a note from Max at SOD. It’s always great to hear from him, particularly considering how hard Italy was hit with COVID-19.

How are you? Here it’s HOT! We are melting down… this summer is very tropical… and what better way to deal with than by wearing shorts?

Here is what our SF troops are wearing around the world! We have added US WOODLAND CAMO… original from the US… like the MultiCam Crye Original of course!

Max, you had me at shorts. Woodland Camo is just the icing.

So here they are, the SOD S.P.01 shorts. They features classic SOD styling with dual slotted buttons at the top of the fly , wide belt loops, and angled pocket placement for ergonomics.

They are offered in several camouflage patterns and solid colors.

IWA – SOD

Friday, March 3rd, 2017

One of the first companies we ever covered in SSD was Italy’s SOD. It’s great to see them continue to innovate.

They’ve done their booth up right, showing an abbreviated history of Italian warriors.

They’ve introduced a line of knitted next-to-skin layers with targeted zones knitted differently for performance.

SOF has also introduced shell garments in a winter variant of Vegetata camouflage.

However, their bread and butter remains their specialized combat clothing and load carriage.

Operator Assault Suit from SOD Gear

Thursday, October 31st, 2013

20131028-155531.jpg

Offered by the Italian specialty clothing manufacturer SOD Gear, the Operating Assault Suit (translated from Italian) is made from 50/50 NYCO. Granted, it’s not an optimized solution but NYCO is generally regarded as a lower coat no melt-no drip option rather than a full FR solution. But this was originally designed for an Italian customer and reflects their requirements.

It also features an elasticized neck and wrists as well as 2 chest and 2 sleeve pockets. Thee are upper and lower flat pockets on each leg. The flat construction helps mitigate snags. The waist is also elasticized with belt loops as well. Finally, the knees and elbows are reinforced with Cordura and feature removable padding.

Blast From The Past – SOD Boonie

Sunday, May 6th, 2012

This was one of the first articles we published; June 2008. SOD still makes a great boonie but they’ve really expanded their color selection.

This is the first in a series of articles on the SOD line of products. I recently received a full set of SOD’s clothing. I have already made mention of the attention to detail that the crew at SOD pays to their designs. For their boonie, they started with Crye’s already fantastic design and improved it even further.
SOD Boonie Hat
The design features a wide brim with multiple stitching reinforcements. It is a little wider than the Crye hat but not was stiff as the Crye. The pile tape and, nylon webbing camo band, and barrel lock are all treated with the Multicam pattern.
SOD Boonie Rear
The sweatband is terry cloth as used in the Australian boonie hat.
SOD Boonie Hat Interior
Additionally, where the Crye boonie has only one slash vent backed with mesh netting, the SOD features two.

SOD is currently in negotiations with a US distributor. In the interim, you can see SOD’s website here.

SOD Spectre Cap

Friday, February 10th, 2012

I’d seen the Spectre Cap from Italy’s SOD Gear online but after picking one up at SHOT Show I can tell you that photos just don’t do it justice. It’s a true fatigue cap. Comfortable, floppy, and designed specifically for field wear. In fact it has a lot in common with their Boonie Hat which is the Rolls Royce of Boonies. For example, when you take a look at the brim you can see that it is a modified section of a full Boonie brim. It also incorporates the terry sweatband and vent system from the SOD Boonie.

Naturally, it features plenty of Velcro to accept ID and other accoutrements. Additionally, the cap comes in two sizes with micro adjustments available via a strap at the rear. It also has a loop so you can hang it or attach it to your gear. Finally, it is available in a plethora of colors including HCS (the photo below), Black, Tan, Blue, MultiCam, Vegetato, Desertico CB62 as well as PenCott Badlands, Greenzone and Sandstorm.

I have one in Street Brown which a very dark brown that fades into a chocolate brown. It’s a very comfortable cap that makes me think of a Boonie Hat who was unhappy with its body image so it got some plastic surgery to make it more like a Patrol Cap. Then it added an adjuster so it would be like an American ballcap. Seriously, it’s a cool hat and oh so comfy. Did I say it was comfy?

SOD Gear Spectre Cap

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Italian SOD Gear has introduced their Spectre Cap in Hyde Definition’s BadLands variant of their PenCott family of patterns. It is a patrol cap style with a couple of changes. For instance, the rear is adjustable for sizing and Velcro panels have been affixed to the cap for ID patches. Additionally, the interior of the cap features a sweat band for comfort.

The cap is offered in two sizes and a variety of colors and patterns from www.sodgear.com.
