OSS Introduces Two New HELIX Suppressors

Murray UT – Operators Suppressor Systems LLC (OSS) proudly introduces two additions to our HELIX line – the HX 556 and HX 762. Built with OSS’s patented Flow-Through™ technology, the HX 556 and HX 762 are integrated flush mount suppressors and are full-auto rated.

Shorter, lighter and quieter, the HX 556 is 6.8” long, weighs 20.8 ounces and delivers a 32-34 dB sound reduction. The HX 762 is 7.6″ long, weighs 22.3 ounces, and delivers a 30dB sound reduction. Both are constructed with stainless steel, cobalt and titanium, and mount with OSS’s STS-Muzzle Brake – a direct threading mount and fully functioning muzzle brake that self-tightens during fire.

“These new HELIX products are the culmination of a lot of hard work this year by OSS’s talented engineering, manufacturing and test teams,” said VP of Sales and Marketing Chris Estadt. “And we’re excited by the reaction we’ve had with distributors, dealers and customers.”

The NFA Review Channel just wrapped their test of the HX 556 and confirmed its superior performance vs. baffle suppressors. They were impressed by how the HX 556 reduced blowback, bolt velocity, and “gunk” in their gun, and they liked its “great tone” too. Watch here.

And recent testing of the HX 762 by Military Arms Channel confirmed the HX 762’s superior sound suppression performance as well. MAC Channel was also impressed by the recoil reduction, accuracy, and signature reduction tone of the HX 762 compared with popular baffle suppressors they’ve tested. Watch here.

SilencerCo CEO Josh Waldron on the Hearing Protection Act

My fellow Americans,

Tuesday’s Republican election victory was a tremendous win for our Second Amendment rights and it also marked a significant increase in the potential for the Hearing Protection Act to become law and remove silencers from the NFA registry. SilencerCo has been and will continue to be a vocal supporter of the HPA and advocate for it to become a priority in the legislative agenda for 2017.

As a member of The Suppressed™, you’ve likely thought to yourself, “Why are silencers still an NFA item?” SilencerCo has not only wondered this ourselves, but along with partners such as the American Suppressor Association, we’ve taken steps to support the introduction of legislation to remove silencers from the list of NFA items.

On October 22, 2015 the Hearing Protection Act was introduced. This piece of legislation is aimed at removing silencers from the NFA and instead having their transfer go through a traditional ATF Form 4473 – the same way you would purchase a standard rifle or pistol.

What does this mean for you?

Even though the House, Senate, and Presidency will be controlled by like-minded advocates for the Second Amendment, bills take time to become laws and citizens should not be taxed for trying to protect their hearing while exercising their Second Amendment rights. Between now and the passage of this bill, we encourage our customers to continue to support the industry and to take advantage of the following provision: The Hearing Protection Act also includes a provision for all people who purchase a silencer between the time the bill is introduced (October 22, 2015) until the day it passes – should you purchase a silencer during that time, you will receive a $200 tax credit to cover the cost of any new silencer tax stamps you pay for.

This bill was initially championed by Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ) as its primary sponsor and since then has had multiple co-sponsors. SilencerCo, Rep. Salmon, and all supporters of the bill realize that this is a long-term effort and will not be something that happens overnight. With the help of people like you – The Suppressed – we will gain momentum and educate both the general public and lawmakers as to the true nature of silencers.

Meet The El Camino Suppressor From Q

Earlier this year, Kevin Brittingham put together his dream team to form a new company, named Q. While I initially believed they were going to launch a series of weapon accessories, including optics mounts, they went right after suppressors.

Considering Brittingham and chief designer Ethan Lessard’s background at AAC and SIG it shouldn’t have come as a surprise, but it did. That’s because the first product is a .22 suppressor called the El Camino.

I thought to myself, “Why would he mess with a .22 suppressor?” So, I asked Kevin Brittingham and he told me he considers the AAC Element the industry standard .22 suppressor, but he found that it isn’t very accurate. That’s why he did it.

Q has a couple of world class shooters who go by the names of Robbie Johnson and Lindsay Bunch. They took several .22 suppressors out and determined that none of them held accuracy. It’s a common issue that few recognize because most suppressed .22 weapons aren’t known for their own accuracy. In the case of the Element, the suppressed shot group was two to three times the size of an unsuppressed group. Consequently, the team concentrated on improving accuracy along with sound suppression.

For instance, Brittingham claims the El Camino is as quiet as the AAC Element although the Element may have a half db edge on first round pop.

In conjunction with Silencer Shop, Q gave the El Camino a soft launch at the recent Texas Firearms Festival. Silencer Shop posted video of the El Camino in action on both rifle and pistol, on their Instagram feed. As unscientific as the demonstration was, the weapons’ actions were louder than the report of the round being fired.

Q put a lot of R&D into the El Camino and there will be two variants. The Stainless Steel (17-4) model weighs about 4.2 oz and the titanium model is around 2.2 oz.

Either way, the construction remains constant. With both styles, the tube is titanium. Additionally, the end cap doesn’t use a proprietary tool for disassembly. Instead, it is compatible with a standard 1/2″ box end wrench or hex socket which most shooters have handy.

The baffles are a steep cone with asymmetric cut, whether 17-4 Stainless Steel or Titanium, and are designed to shield gasses from the outer tube.

During testing, Q shot 1000 rounds and at the end of the string of fire they disassembled the can and the baffles all fell right out. None of them were stuck to the outer tube, or one another.

Interestingly, the El Camino also features PVD coating. That’s a feature you aren’t going to see on a .22 can due to cost.

They’ve already started shipping forms and the first El Camino could be available in as little as two weeks.

Brittingham related that the planned MSRP is somewhere around $400; add about $50 to the cost for Ti baffles.

As I understand it, the entire first year’s run of El Camino suppressors will be available exclusively through our friends at Silencer Shop.

The El Camino might seem like the most vanilla product Q could release but it’s got my attention. I look forward to trying it out, along with several other promised products, including a full line of suppressors with a completely new construction, as well as a long gun, during SHOT Show.

American Suppressor Association Hires Owen Miller As Director Of Outreach

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Suppressor Association (ASA) is pleased to announce the hiring of Owen Miller as the ASA’s new Director of Outreach. In this position, he will be responsible for a host of initiatives for the organization as they relate to interaction with the Association’s membership base. This includes responsibility for member engagement, outreach, and retention; new member recruitment; customer service; and compliance inquiries from members. He will begin work immediately.

His skills in those fields will be an asset to the ASA.
