Maybe Hornady’s New Zombie Ammo Isn’t Enough

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

Tactical Fanboy has posted an interesting find; the Hornaday Zombie Ammo video. Considering how many rounds the “hero” had to put into those Zombies to take them down and the fact that he isn’t in the end of the video tells us that that ammo may need some work. Or…maybe it’s just the shooter and his gun.

Here is TF himself wielding the Mossberg 500 Chainsaw Shotgun.

Palladium Boots – Maharishi Tactical

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

A collaborative effort between Palladium Boots and London-based fashion label Maharishi has led to the creation of the Maharishi Tactical boot. The Maharishi Tactical features an upper constructed from rubberized full grain leather and 2520 denier ballistic nylon. The side, collar and heel panels are made of Schoeller Dynatec, a specialty textile that consists of reflective threads and tiny reflective glass beads. This material reflects light and is visible up to 100 meters away. The boot also features a Dri-Lex moisture wicking lining for breathability and sweat control, a thick PU material sockliner, and a padded collar with red Maharishi branding on the inside. A nice boot all around, but does anyone else see a double-edged sword in that reflective material?

You can purchase yours here.

Nod to Tactical Fanboy.

AlphaDog

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Meet AlphaDog, Boston Dynamics’ latest load carrying quadrupedal robot. This nightmarish fusion of machinery and the souls of abandoned canines can carry a payload of up to 400 lbs on 20-mile missions in rough terrain. It’s also extremely good at reorienting itself, looking as pissed as something without a face can as it does so, and the kicks that threw its predecessor, BigDog, for a loop are completely ineffective; shoving still works, thankfully. While it still looks like a monster from Silent Hill, at least this model doesn’t sound like a swarm of evil bees. Also, it kinda looks like an ATAT, which is always cool.

The Crovel

Monday, September 26th, 2011

The Crovel, which is a portmanteau of shovel and crowbar, bares at the very least a passing resemblance to the Chinese Multifunctional Shovel in both aesthetics and functionality, but is made in the USA. The Crovel works as a shovel, crowbar, hammer, bottle and can opener, and grappling hook, among other uses. The shovel head is made from 10 gauge hardened steel while the handle is a 19 inch goose head crowbar with a 1.5 x .75 inch hammer face. The handle is also wrapped in 15 feet of 550 paracord, which offers an enhanced grip, but can also be used as a survival material. All we need now is a Youtube video of several American soldiers showing off all this tool’s features set to epic music and we’d be in business.

You can order The Crovel from survivaloutdoorgear.com.

Tactical Fanboy at the Oceana Airshow

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

Tactical Fanboy went to the NAS Oceana Airshow yesterday. The weather conditions were less than ideal with low ceilings and rain all day. What was planned to be an all day outing was cut short due to even more severe weather rolling in in the early afternoon. There were no flight operations during his time there but he was able to check out a few interesting items.

Below is a teaser. For the full story visit www.TacticalFanboy.com.

In addition to a wide variety of aircraft on display, Navy Reserve SEAL Team 18 and active-duty Special Boat Team 20 as well as Navy Riverine Squadron 3 were on hand.

Sawyer Squeeze Filter

Friday, August 19th, 2011

Originally posted on Tactical Fanboy.

The Sawyer Squeeze Filter consists of a filter with a push/pull cap that attaches to one of three different sized reusable pouches, 12, 16, or 32oz, or most threaded plastic bottles. The system is lightweight, weighing only 3oz., and is very portable. Despite its small size it removes upwards of 99.99999% of all water-found containments. The filter can even stand up to high-pressure backwashing due to Sawyer’s robust hollow-fiber membranes, although because of the filter’s large surface area this isn’t a frequently required task.
