SureFire Field Notes Ep. 17, Violence of Action with John Chapman

Wednesday, December 20th, 2017

SureFire Field Notes is a multi-segment informational video series with tips and techniques from subject matter experts of all backgrounds. In this episode, John “Chappy” Chapman of Forge Tactical discusses the importance of violence of action in CQB.

Born and raised in the tiny suburbs of Sacramento, California, John Chapman (Chappy) joined the Navy at 18. After an enlistment served on the USS Memphis, Chappy returned home to Northern California and embarked on a law enforcement career while attending college. After 16 years of service spanning 4 agencies, with service in Patrol, SWAT, Investigations, Training and Administration, Chappy left full time Police service and began training police officers full time in 2008. A police firearms and tactics instructor since 1994, Chappy founded LMS Defense as a part time private venture in 2006; and with the help of an amazing team built LMS into a full time venture by 2008. After serving in Iraq as security specialist, Chappy returned to LMS full time and spent the next 5 years servicing domestic and international police and government training requirements, and consulting SWAT teams in Procedural Issues and Equipment Acquisition. In 2009, Chappy also became a part time adjunct instructor for EAG Tactical, working for his mentor and friend, Pat Rogers. It was through Pat’s mentorship and guidance that Chappy developed his skills as a teacher to the level of becoming a BCM Gunfighter. Best known as a SWAT and Night Vision Instructor, Chappy continues to teach, now exclusively for Forge Tactical. He also maintains his police commission, and serves as an Auxiliary Police Officer with the Alliance, Ohio Police Department, where he serves as a SRT Team Leader.

GunfighterU.com Introduces the Latest in Firearms Training: Online Training Database Memberships

Thursday, December 14th, 2017

I received this note from Sergeant Major (ret) John McPhee AKA “The Sheriff of Baghdad”.

Dudes,

I’m excited to announce a service I’ve been working on since I began providing video diagnostic firearms instruction.

I was the first instructor in the industry to use video diagnostics and coaching technology to breakdown the performance of individuals. From my personal combat experience, I set out to relay the same neuroscience approach to training that I received in the military. Only I work to deliver it quicker, using a modern sports coaching model.

After 5 years of collecting data via video diagnostics, I have come up with an extensive database of online training modules that will help you improve your shooting faster than ever. Now, I’m opening the video database for you to access.

Whether you are a civilian, law enforcement or military, I have created these modules so that when the time comes for you to use your firearm, you have the best knowledge available to you. I created an online “member’s only” training database that offers endless advantages of instruction making it an attractive alternative to traditional in-person experiences.

What are the benefits?
In each comprehensive video training module you will have the opportunity to learn fundamental and advanced skills. With new content added each month and even more original programming planned for the future.
BENEFITS

2 New Fundamental and Skills Videos Each Month
2 Advanced Knowledge Videos Each Month
24/7 Access to private Facebook Group
24/7 Access to Entire Online Video Database

QinetiQ Emulates Drone Threat for Royal Canadian Navy

Sunday, December 3rd, 2017

30 November 2017 – QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) has introduced a new service to the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) by emulating the threat posed to large naval vessels by small multi-rotor drones.

550102E7-CF69-4BFB-8463-23581B4E0C5D

The live demonstration was carried out in November 2017 from a Halifax-class frigate under the C$8.5M Unmanned Targets Repair, Overhaul and Engineering contract, awarded to QTS in 2015.

QTS flew its Snyper multi-rotor target alongside Lockheed Martin’s Indago quadcopter using QinetiQ’s Universal Target Control Station (UTCS), which facilitates the operation of multiple unmanned systems from a single command centre.

The RCN has operated fixed wing aerial targets and marine surface targets using QinetiQ’s UTCS for more than 20 years, but the introduction of rotary wing targets is a first for the service.

Peter Longstaff, Managing Director, QTS, said: “Commercially available technologies, like off-the-shelf drones, are becoming more advanced and more accessible to those who wish to use them to cause harm. QinetiQ simulates these new and emerging threats to help the armed forces understand how to protect their people and assets. This is part of our global strategy to modernise test and evaluation by introducing innovative and advanced capabilities that help nations maintain their advantage over potential adversaries. In Canada, we are committed to supporting the Department of National Defence in achieving its vision of being strong at home, secure in North America, and engaged in the world.”

Simon Nadeau, DNR-2 Unmanned Systems Section Head Commander, RCN, said: “The information and results obtained during the demonstration are vital for the RCN’s development of remotely piloted systems use at sea, and the evaluation of ships’ critical defence systems. We are very pleased with the support that QinetiQ Target Systems provided to us during this demonstration.”

The Snyper target is one of several QinetiQ technologies designed to help customers tackle threats from small unmanned aircraft, including the Obsidian detection system and the laser weapon currently in development by the Dragonfire consortium that will be capable of destroying drones mid-flight.
