Beretta Unveils Striker Fired Pistol at IDEX

Tuesday, February 24th, 2015

Beretta is publicly unveiling their full-sized, striker fired pistol at IDEX in the UAE but it was shown to select clients at SHOT Show. With the US Army’s love affair with the 92 all but over, the APX is just in time for the Joint Combat Pistol.

(null)

The introduction of the APX model completes the company’s full size pistol portfolio and positions Beretta as the world’s premier small arms manufacturer. Beretta has manufactured semi-automatic pistols since 1915 and is now one of the very few manufacturers to offer full size polymer and metallic framed handguns in both hammer and striker fired operating systems.

Beretta elected to debut its new APX striker fired pistol at the upcoming IDEX Show (International Defence Exhibition & Conference) in Abu Dhabi because it is one of the most important shows for the international defense sector. “With the show opening February 22, IDEX is one of the first venues where defense contractors present their wares to worldwide military customers and Beretta felt this was the ideal environment to present the international offering of its APX pistol,” stated Carlo Ferlito, General Manager of Beretta and Beretta Defense Technologies (BDT) Vice President.

Designed specifically for military and law enforcement operators, the APX has been put through extensive testing and evaluation at the professional end-user level.

Carlo Ferlito explained that Beretta places paramount importance on performance and wanted to ensure they built a product to meet the operator’s specific needs. “Beretta waited to enter the striker fired market until we had a pistol we knew would meet the needs of the operator. The APX has been more than three years in development. We tested it extensively with professional end users and incorporated that feedback at every opportunity. The result is a pistol platform that delivers superior performance in durability, reliability, accuracy and ergonomics.”

Beretta intends to submit a variant of the APX shown at IDEX to the upcoming US Army Modular Handgun System. “Of course we will continue to develop the APX to take into consideration the final specifications of the MHS as they become known,” stated Gabriele De Plano, Vice President of Beretta Defense Technologies (BDT) USA Marketing and Operations.

The APX striker fired pistol has been developed to match military and law enforcement needs but is not just for these customers, Beretta intends to market a variant for the commercial market later this year. This addition to Beretta’s pistol line will further cement the company’s position as one of the world’s leading small arms manufacturers.

SIG Statement on Stabilizing Brace Bulletin from BATFE

Friday, February 20th, 2015

SIG has issued this statement…

BATFE REAFFIRMS PISTOL BRACE LEGAL TO OWN, INSTALL AND USE

Newington, N. H. (February 20, 2015) – SIG SAUER, Inc. has issued the following statement relative to the January 2015 open opinion letter issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms regarding the SB15 and SBX Pistol Stabilizing Braces.

BATFE Technical Branch issued an open opinion letter dated January 16, 2015 regarding the Pistol Stabilizing Brace (SB15 and SBX) which is marketed by SIG SAUER®. Contrary to several statements subsequently made in social media, this opinion letter did not make or otherwise declare that the SB15 product is illegal. The BATFE letter stated that the SB15 is a product “which is legal to own, legal to purchase and legal to install on a pistol.” SIG SAUER believes that the PSB enhances the shooter’s experience and offers the products as an accessory and pre-installed on a number of pistols. In all of its opinions, BATFE has consistently stated that a pistol with a stabilizing brace attached remains a pistol under the Gun Control Act when used as designed.

SureFire – New M600 AA Can Use AA Lithium or Alkaline Batteries

Friday, February 20th, 2015

(null)

The new Picatinny compatible M600 AA Scout Light can be powered by AA lithium or AA alkaline batteries, the latter of which are typically more readily available globally.

“The M600 AA’s ability to be powered by two separate types of batteries is a key element to its anticipated success,” said SureFire Product Manager Chris Skahill. “For optimal performance, AA lithiums can be used. But it can also be powered by AA alkalines, which are more readily available and usually easier to find, particularly in remote or rural areas.”

Powered by two lithium AAs, the M600 AA’s solid-state light emitting diode (LED) generates a maximum output of 200 lumens and produces tactical-level output for up to 3.75 hours on a set of batteries. The output and runtime from two AA alkaline batteries is approximately one-third that from lithium AAs, but this reduced output/runtime is theoretically outweighed by the convenience of using these easier-to-find and often less-expensive power cells. But to maximize output and runtime, SureFire recommends powering the M600 AA with lithium batteries whenever possible.

(null)

The M600 AA uses a proprietary Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lens to shape the LED’s output into a smooth, flawless beam with ample reach and enough surround light to maintain good situational awareness in close- to medium-range applications. Like all SureFire Scout Lights, it securely attaches to any MIL-STD-1913 rail, the M600 AA utilizing an integral thumbscrew clamp that attaches/detaches the light to said rail in a matter of seconds. Constructed of lightweight aerospace aluminum that’s hard anodized with a Mil-Spec finish for added durability, this new Scout Light can be easily activated via its momentary-/constant-on click-type tailcap switch, or via several remote plug-in switch models available for purchase from SureFire as optional accessories.

(null)

The M600 AA Scout Light has an MSRP of $299.00 and is currently available for purchase through authorized SureFire dealers. It will also soon be available for purchase directly from SureFire by calling 800-828-8809 or visiting surefire.com online.

Proctor Light Mount

Designed specifically for the Streamlight Protac 1L, the Proctor Light Mount is a collaboration with Unity Tactical. Proctor has been using the Protac 1L for some time but it will also fit a Streamlight Protac 2L and Surefire E series lights.

(null)
The goal was to keep the light as close to the rail as possible and they’ve done it. It’s so low profile that a folding front sight will sit flat over it. Additionally, it only uses one Picatinny slot.
