TYR Tactical Tuesday – Hard Armor Facility and HA3/ST Plates

September 1st, 2020

Since the beginning, TYR Tactical® has never stopped developing and improving upon their soft and hard armor offerings. They now offer Level II, IIIA, III and IV armor solutions. Additionally, they currently have the lightest Level IIIA, III and IV Shields on the market.

TYR Tactical® has invested nearly $14M to construct a New Armor Manufacturing Facility on their Peoria, AZ Headquarters Campus. This new building will house state-of-the-art presses and autoclaves to support hard armor production. This much needed expansion, along with their current in-house Ballistic Test Range, will give them unmatched armor development capability.

So why now? Owner & CEO Jason Beck had this to say about the driving force behind the Armor Facility Expansion: “As one of the few remaining family owned businesses in our industry I feel a responsibility to always be the guy making everyone else strive to get better. I felt the armor industry had grown stagnate, become too reactionary, and too contract focused. The industry stopped innovating and the end user community simply deserved better. We have had a very productive year in spite of the ongoing pandemic.  Investing back into the company and our people seemed like the right thing to do. We are building a world class armor production facility and adding next generation equipment, to continue to push our industry and build kit for the Next Generation Warrior®. Innovate or Die®!”

Lipsey’s Goes Back To Where It All Began With Retro P80 9mm Exclusive

September 1st, 2020

Baton Rouge, La.—Lipsey’s, the nation’s premier firearms distributor, has unveiled the new Lipsey’s Exclusive GLOCK P80. A historical reproduction of the original, innovative GLOCK pistol adopted by the Austrian Army in 1982.

In 1981, Gaston Glock assembled a team of engineers and designed his first firearm. The result was submitted to the Austrian Army pistol trials and won the contract in 1982. The Army then designated the first GLOCK as the Pistole 80. These guns were later known commercially as “G17s” and were only available in the US market for two years until the “Gen2” model was introduced in 1988. P80 marked GLOCKs were never imported into the United States.

After its American debut as the GLOCK 17 in 1986, the simple, yet proven, mechanics and materials have remained mainly the same. The original P80 and Gen1 G17 featured non-railed frames with no finger grooves and wrap around pebble grain texturing. Lipsey’s worked with GLOCK to recreate the Gen1 single pin frame and the original flat extractor. The P80 markings are the same font used in 1982. The classic “Tupperware” style container was also re-manufactured for this edition. Each GLOCK P80 includes a commemorative overbox and certificate of authenticity.

The new Lipsey’s Exclusive GLOCK P80 was developed to allow modern GLOCK enthusiasts to acquire a piece of the company’s unique history. The concept began with Jason Cloessner, Lipsey’s Vice President & Product Development Manager, who initiated the collaboration with GLOCK some three years ago. “I have always wanted to do a retro GLOCK pistol. GLOCK took painstaking measures to recreate the original frames and packaging to make this P80 edition as close to the original as we could get. Not only is this edition a great shooter, but it also helps tell the amazing story of how GLOCK came to be.”

Bob Radecki, GLOCK, Inc. National Sales Manager was an instrumental partner in bringing this throwback concept to life. “GLOCK, in conjunction with Lipsey’s, is very pleased to commemorate the adoption of the GLOCK P80 by the Austrian Army with a recreation inspired by the original GLOCK Pistole 80. The P80 was GLOCK’s first pistol and was the catalyst that led to the introduction of the G17, which revolutionized the pistol market and launched GLOCK as the pistol manufacturer trusted around the globe for over 30 years.”

You can access GLOCK P80 technical specs and information here: Lipsey’s GLOCK P80

Located in Baton Rouge, Lipsey’s formed initially as a wholesale hunting and fishing distributor in 1953.

Today, Lipsey’s is one of the largest independently owned firearms distributors in the country offering a full catalog of firearms, NFA items, and accessories. The “AIM HIGHER” company mantra focuses on innovative product development, distribution, and dedication to family, community, and industry. With a committed focus on relationships, Lipsey’s provides value to federally licensed dealers and the industry’s top manufacturers.

Schiebel Camcopter S-100 and Nordic Unmanned Carry Out World’s First Full-Scale Offshore UAV Flight for Equinor

August 31st, 2020

Vienna, 28 August 2020 – Schiebel, together with partner Nordic Unmanned, successfully demonstrated to Norwegian energy company Equinor the cargo delivery capability of its Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) CAMCOPTER® S-100 to offshore platform Troll A. This is a world’s first in terms of full-scale offshore UAV delivery from shore to an active oil and gas installation.

The exercise simulated the scenario of an urgent requirement for specific essential spare parts at the gas production platform Troll A. The CAMCOPTER® S-100 successfully carried out the long-range delivery flight from Mongstad, where the spare parts were 3D-printed, to the offshore platform Troll A located in the North Sea. The unmanned delivery distance was 100 km (55 nm). After the UAV supplied the spare parts, it carried out a close inspection around the platform before it headed back to Mongstad.

The flight trials also included a successful Search and Rescue (SAR) mission, where a “man over board” dummy was quickly located by the UAV, transmitting the positioning data and live images using the L3 Harris Wescam real-time Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) camera and an Automatic Identification System (AIS).

Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, said: “This was the perfect trial to show off the exceptional maritime capabilities of the S-100 for the oil and gas industry. We have extensive experience in long-range unmanned flights, especially in the maritime domain and under adverse weather conditions. The S-100 was able to show off its outstanding capabilities and we have proven once again that the S-100 UAV is the superior choice.”
