SHOT Show 17 – MKEK MPT-76

January 18th, 2017

MKEK’s MPT-76 or National Infantry Rifle is a modular battle rifle designed to replace the G3 currently in service with the Turkish Armed Forces. Chambered for 7.62x51mm NATO, the MPT features a free-floating, cold hammer forged 16″ barrel with a 1:10 twist rate, and a short-stroke gas piston system. A bit of AR influence can be found in the MPT’s design, in regards to the forward assist, rearward charging handle, and selector switch; these later two components, along with the magazine release are also designed to be ambidextrous. The MPT also features a retractible buttstock; modular quad rail forend; folding front and rear sights; 20-round translucent polymer magazine; and grenade launcher and shotgun interfaces.

SHOT Show 17 – Hardened Arms LumaShark

January 18th, 2017

IMG_4474

The LumaShark is a free float handguard with dual integral CREE lights. The rail is constructed of 6061-T6 aluminum and is 12″ in length, with a monolithic top Picatinny rail, and M-LOK side and bottom slots. The 1150 lumen lights sit at the 6 o’clock position on the front end of the rail, and are activated via large, glove-friendly buttons. These buttons are pretty sensitive, so Hardened Arms also offers a more recessed button so accidental activation doesn’t occur during use. They run on CR123A batteries, which provide up to 1 hour of constant activation. As you can tell, the rail is rather wide, intentionally designed to allow clearance for a suppressor.

The lights feature quick-change bulbs which can be removed via an included tool. Hardened Arms also offers an IR bulb and laser as replacement for the standard bulbs, as well as remote pressure pads. Hardened Arms’ developed the LumaShark principally for Military and LE sales, although it will be offered for general purchase as well.

SHOT Show 17 – LALO Tactical

January 18th, 2017

LALO uses two upper and two lower designs to create three different boot models in the Shadow line. For example, (top to bottom) the Amphibian utilizes a drainable lower. The Intruder shares the upper with the Amphibian but comes a carbonized rubber outsole. The Operator introduces a new high upper but utilizes the same carbonized rubber outsole as the Intruder.

The models are available in Black, Coyote and Ranger Green.

SHOT Show 17 – Troy Defense

January 18th, 2017

Like last year, Troy Defense had a booth full of new products for the year. Here’s a few of the highlights:

Troy SOCC Battlemag

IMG_0047

Troy is going the way of the translucent polymer magazine with their new SOCC Battlemag. The translucent body allows shooters to see their current round count, and the texturization throughout the mag body allows for a positive grip when drawing the mag out of a pouch or from a weapon. The SOCC Battlemag is engineered to function with AR-15 variants, as well as the HK416 and FN SCAR, and is optimized for the M855A1 cartridge.

Troy SOCC PDW

IMG_0049

The SOCC PDW is a new iteration of Troy’s PDW rifle sporting all-new SOCC accessories, including the new SOCC folding BattleSights, the SOCC ambi selector switch, and the 7.2″ SOCC PDW BattleRail, which is M-LOK compatible. It also comes with a Tomahawk Short Stock, Claymore Muzzle rake, Troy extended ambi charging handle, and a Geissele G2S Trigger.

SHOT Show 17 – TNVC/Unity Tactical TAPS Update

January 18th, 2017

During Range Day we mentioned the production version of the Tactical Augmented Pressure Switch. To clarify, there are two variants and externally both look the same because they have the same basic functionality.

The TAPS mounts to M-Lok, KeyMod and Pic rail and includes 7″ SureFire/Insight or 7″ Insight/Insight leads. Once again, it requires a 2032 battery for constant on, but even without it, momentary still works. The only difference from the base model and the TAPSpro is that the pro model is programmable. Consequently, there’s a difference in price. The TAPS is $139 and TAPSpro is $239. Considering other switches are more expensive (and not programmable) that’s not a bad price. Plus, TAPS is 100% Made in USA. Additionally, the switches are available in FDE and Black.

These have been manufactured. The products will be loaded on the website and begin shipping next week.

I hope this answers any questions that have come up.

SHOT Show 17 – Battle Arms Development

January 18th, 2017

Last year, Battle Arms Development shared images of an AR that could be described as a work of art. The combination of wood and metal caused quite a reaction on the internet. At this year’s SHOT Show, they are showing a pre-production SBR in .300.

Aesthetically, I really like the combination of the Green Cerakote and Wood.  They plan to offer the furniture as stand alone pieces as well as a complete carbine. The wood on the forend and grip are Walnut while the cheekrest on the collapsible PDW stock is coated metal.

SHOT Show 17 – Winkler Knives II

January 18th, 2017

It was great to see Daniel and Karen out from the bowels of the basement and out on the show floor with the other tactical brands. ABS Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler showed me several new models, but I’m going to share the Walker Spike with you now.

The inspiration for the name obviously came from the popular TV show, “The Walking Dead” and was designed for one simple task; to ventilate someone if they get into a grapple with you, in order to get them off of you far enough to engage by other means.  Made from 80CRV2, it features a leather wrapped handle and comes with a Kydex sheath.

Additionally, the Emergency Response Tool, released at The Blade Show, has received a slight update. Daniel added a glassbreaker to the rear of the head.

We’ll have more new items from Winkler Knives soon.
