Gunfighter Moment – Larry Vickers

August 20th, 2016

I recently returned from a trip to Switzerland and after shooting with some friends I was once again reminded of two things; the AR-15/M4 and Glock handguns absolutely dominate in terms of sheer numbers being used each and everyday on ranges around the world. They are by far the most popular of their type and we live in the best time ever for both weapons. As you can guess I use and recommend BCM carbines as my first choice and for Glocks check out my Vickers Tactical editions available exclusively thru Lipseys. It’s in everyone’s best interest to know these two firearms as they are the industry benchmarks and will be for some time to come.

Be safe and shoot straight.

LAV out.

Pentagon – Kalahari Hat

August 20th, 2016

This summer has been a scorcher here in Hampton Roads so anytime I see a sun hat while doing research (aka web surfing) I check it out. This one is from Greek brand Pentagon. They make a lot of 5.11-style clothing and I only learned about them during IWA this year as they are not well known here in the US. However, I do know you can find some of their stuff on Amazon.

What I find interesting about this hat is that they’ve laser cut ventilation into the sides of the hat and incorprated a neck shade in a wide brimmed hat. That’s some pretty serious business and between the material and design they promise SPF 50. UV damage to skin is serious business boys and girls. Protect your skin while you’re young. Offered in Coyote, Tan and Grey.

  • Qore Performance – IcePlate

    August 19th, 2016

    IMG_5079

Quore Performance’s IcePlate is a 50 oz. water bottle designed to be worn between a base layer and body armor. When frozen, the IcePlate provides up to 140 watts of cooling over 2-4 hours when front and back plates are worn. Another benefit of IcePlate is that it can be utilized as a hydration pouch, so users aren’t carrying additional weight as far as water goes. Additionally, some preliminary testing by Qore showed the IcePlate absorbed impact energy which helped to prevent back face deformation when worn behind soft armor.

Provider of temperature-controlled packaging solutions unveils Golden Hour™ Medic, a small-scale thermal container for military personnel

August 16, 2016 02:45 PM Eastern Daylight Time

MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Pelican BioThermal, a global leader providing the broadest and most innovative range of temperature-controlled packaging solutions serving the life sciences industry, today launches the Golden Hour™ Medic, a critical care transport container. This packaging solution allows military personnel to carry life-saving whole blood with them onto the battlefield, which vehicles may not be able to easily reach in the critical first hour after a soldier sustains a life-threatening injury.

“The Golden Hour Medic is the result of our long-standing effort to identify and develop solutions for military field personnel; it supports the need to transport whole blood units far distances while still successfully maintaining blood at the critical temperature around 4 °C,” said Pelican BioThermal Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Kevin Lawler. “We are proud to officially launch the Golden Hour Medic and look forward to playing a pivotal role in the effort to save the lives of troops.”

Utilizing the same innovative technology as their award-winning Golden Hour™ Mobile container, the Golden Hour Medic is a reusable, portable container designed specifically for combat medics to transport blood and other lifesaving materials. The Medic can keep whole blood supplies at the required temperature for 24 hours in harsh conditions and up to three days in standard environments.

Maintaining critical blood supplies is an integral part of Pelican BioThermal’s historical product history. The company’s award-winning Golden Hour™ Technology was developed to protect the lives of military personnel on the frontlines by providing smaller-scale thermal containers for blood supplies. Later came the Golden Hour Mobile Container. It was developed shortly after 9/11 to protect military troops’ lives in the battlefield in the harshest of environments and climates. In 2004 the original container was the winner of the ‘Army’s Greatest Invention Award.’

Today, Pelican BioThermal provides a full range of single-use and reusable temperature-controlled packaging options that ensure the integrity of mobile blood supplies and inventories for blood banks, hospitals, EMT personnel, and first responders alike. Its parent company, Pelican Products, Inc., is celebrating 40 years of supplying a variety of protective case solutions to the modern warfighter, from weapons cases to server rack-mount cases to field hospital storage cases.

Fortress Clothing’s Hybrid Hoodie was born of a simple idea: take the ‘best’ features of a jacket and hoodie and merge them together. To this end, they created a garment that is comfortable across a ~70 degree temperature range, and is wind resistant, retains body heat, and evacuates moisture.
